The second time I watched it, I noticed when Marv went to Nancy's, she went and grabbed 3 beers, stopped, thought about it, and then grabbed like 7 :lol

That's a surprise. Any female that you can take to Sin City is definitely a keeper.

Hehe, not like I have a choice now since we're already married. I agree though, she's a keeper :)

:lol

I noticed that my second time through aswell. I cracked up and the people I was with (who were seeing it for the first time) sort of looked over at me and whispered "what?"

Saw it again today, caught a 4:30p showing. They moved Sin City to the smaller screening rooms to make room for Sahara (

) but the crowd was still pretty substantial, about 80-85 people in a room seating 100. Again, everyone seemed to like it, even the two 70+ year-old ladies that sat down a few seats away from me (I almost went over to them and asked if they were in the right theater before the movie started, swear to God). The castration scene gets 'em every time.

I spent more time concentrating on the visuals this time, the effects and scenery and photography and whatnot. :)

Saw it tonight. Great flick. I never read any of the comics, but the movie has certainly inspired me to check them out. Nothing really more to add that the thread hasn't covered, so I'll make it quick -- loved the cinematography, graphical style, and most of the characters. Wasn't so hot on Murphy, but it really doesn't detract from the whole experience.

The IGN comic-to-movie comparisons are amazing. RR did an amazing job, which I imagine the long-time fans can reallyappreciate.

yeah, I would say if anything it falls in that category. There is sorta this feeling of hopelessness that the city is ruined, yet the charachters seem to think that the good they are doing will make some difference. It bears alot of similarities to Camus' The Plauge actually.
Heh, in some ways, yeah. That's a pretty nice comparision.

just saw it for a second time...i think it was even better the second time

did anybody notice, at kadie's bar in "that yellow bastard," during the shot of marv watching nancy, is that richard lewis sitting to his right?

It's not Richard Lewis, but yeah, it does look somewhat like Lewis.

Fucking kicked so much ass, thank you Rodriguez and Miller.

I just wanna say, WHO THE F*** was the parol officer? DAMN she was hot. I love her. The end.

Carla Gugino, she of the Spy Kids flicks. And yeah, she is a hot piece of ass. All natural, all woman and thick in all the right places.

Yeah, I'll never be able to look at Spy Kids the same way ever again.

You kidding? My 2 kids LOVE these movies, especially part 2, where she looks the hottest. We see it at least 3x a week. And everytime I'm thinking, "Damn, she's fine". But she's always been hot, even when she was younger and even thicker.

That was kind of awkward. He's definitely mellowed since his old days when he was known for being a rebellious jerk, but he's kind of weird. I didn't realize how bad he looked nowadays either.

Yeah, that was maybe a little odd. But you've got to admit that it was also a refreshing change of pace compared to the crappy PR hype "interviews" that Letterman/Leno/Conan usually do. Guy just talked about his dogs, his boxing career, and hardships he faced after he quit the biz. Doesn't get more real than that. The movie only came up at the very end.

:lol

60 Minutes is running a piece on Sin City tonight, featuring Bruce Willis. Y'know, it's kind of funny how the mainstream media (CBS, at least) is just now seeming to jump onboard the Sin City bandwagon. Maybe if they'd jumped a little earlier -- say, before the movie came out -- the movie might've had an even bigger weekend.

Just seen it. How fucking awesome was that?

Very.

You know, I could have sworn Becky was played be Emilie de Ravin (Claire from Lost) and I was so fucking confused when I couldn't find her name in the cast. Either I'm blind or they could be twin sisters. Oh and the actual acrtess it was with blue eyes was the best colour in the film.

I'm sure I'm going against popualr opinion here...but I'm actually quite happy Jessica Alba wasn't nude. She was so damn sexy the way she was, guess it's the whole "less is more" thing. It's not like I didn't see some fantastic tits in the rest of the movie. Great moment when she ran up to Hartigan and kissed him for the first time.

Glad I haven't read the comics so I knew nothing going in, I can only hope for a sequel.

I also agree that Alba with clothes was actually a pretty good choice, since it did seem to make her somewhat more pure and/or innocent in comparison to the other leading vixens of Sin City.

Becky was played by Alexis Bledel who I've only seen from those neverending commercials for the Gilmore Girls. I don't think she's been in much else.

This was one of the most bold films to be backed by a mainstream distributor in a long time, moreso than Kill Bill and - hot damn! - do I love Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller for tackling this after the way it turned out.

My Making of Sin City book and soundtrack are en route to my house (thanks Amazon.com!), but I've heard that those with the Making Of book say that there's already been test shots for a sequel. And it's not like there aren't any Frank Miller stories left.

I love the way the film (and I guess the source material as it's the same) didn't feel the need to explain every little thing. Like Marv almost being indestructable for example.

It also allowed background characters to have some personality. Other filmmakers should learn from it. Characters who only have a couple of lines, if that, don't need to be ignored. You don't need to explain someone's background for them to have quirks. I really got a sense that these people, some of whom last no longer than 20 seconds, have backgrounds, lives, fully fleshed out personalities...it's just not required in the story to explain them to me.

Oh yeah, Brittany Murphy. Generally I thought she was actually alright, though the scene leaning out her window saying "You fool" etc was poor. For some reason that's just so much easier to accept with comic book movies though, almost like a certain amount of cheesey acting and dialogue should be expected. I can't help but fancy her though, she almost tops Alba.

Haha, who am I kidding?

Watching the movie the second time around, I noticed much more hokiness in dialouge in nearly every character. (ie Jackie boy's "You're making a big mistake pal...a big mistake" is kind of off.) So I'm not going to say anyone's acting was bad since it really looks like it was all stylistic choices. Benicio Del Toro is still my favorite part of the film though. That little interaction with "Becky" was golden. I love that look he gives her towards the end when he does that weird thing with his eyes.

I remember thinking that Alba's acting was unimpressive. But on a second viewing, I really think that it was really a stylistic choice. In interviews, Frank Miller said that she was absolutely the "perfect" Nancy. And she can act a hell of a lot better than that.

And Alba was a great choice because it was so essential for her character to be both hot and beautiful while still retaining that innocent look. That moment when she first recognizes Hartigan in the bar...wow. That was probably one of the most emotional parts of the movie.

I too am really glad that Alba chose not to go the nude route, as I think that it really added that extra level of innocence to her character, as well as seperated her from the Old town girls.

I thought they worked her character really well. They really dragged you into the shit that was Sin City, so that when you finally did see the grown up Nancy, she was angelic in comparison. And it amazed me at how strong the connection between her and Hartigan came across despite the seemingly simple structure of their time in the film.

And I'll be damned if my heart didn't start beating faster when I first saw her in the film.

Britney Murphy was essentially playing herself, which I thought worked out really well. She came across as ditsy and shallow, which was pretty much what her character was. It's like how she'd make a good Harley Quinn, in a way.

I just picked up the first book, Sin City: The Hard Goodbye. Good stuff. I love how the lines in the book basically match up with the original lines from the comic.

Yeah I just got the 3 books a few days ago. I mean it's exact. EXACT. Maybe a line left out here or there, a small section missing here, but for the most part I can't believe how much of the dialog stayed intact, but at the same time, that's probably why some of the lines seem off.

The art is amazing (the drawing of Marv infront of the Rourke statue in the rain is amazing)

Gawd, now I have to change my avatar again. Wasn't the MAF run enough ppl? :(

Kickass movie though. Raw, good action, ok story.. didn't really like the last part with the city part run by women (I suck with names). Gonna watch it again when the DVD rip's out. :P

Just got Sin City: Big Fat Kill in the mail from Amazon.Com today...If you want to get the books, get them from Amazon. They're $12 there, while the normal price is $17.

Whoa, I just did a search on IGNDVD hoping to find the release date of the Sin City DVD, but instead I got news about a Sin City game in development. Did anyone else know about this?

Wow, awesome.

Looking back, I can't believe this thread didn't get bigger than it is...The War of the Worlds, Revenge of the Sith, and Batman Begins threads are enormous.

Anyway, I am almost done with all the existing Sin City novels. I now own the first six books, and just ordered the seventh, Sin City: Hell and Back. Thus far, The Hard Goodbye, and Family Values are my favorite. You should seriously pick them up if you liked the movie.

And just as a little update...Not only does Sin City come out on DVD on August 16th...It supposedly comes out on UMD as well.

The Sin City sequel will involve Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, the second Sin City book, which stars Dwight, but before Big Fat Kill. To Sin City experts...Think they'll still use Clive Owen in the second film, despite Dwight looking different?

And, Frank Miller is currently working on a bunch of Sin City short stories. It's possible that they will be compiled, and released as a book together, like Sin City: Booze, Broads and Bullets.

I saw this move while traveling this week on the airplane (Singapore Air, 17 hour flight); I watched it on the way there and again on the way back. I can't get it out of my head. I don't have any comments to make that have not been posted (read the entire thread), but I will be picking up the first graphic novel for a read, that's for sure. Absolutely amazing. Rarely has an action film moved me so, and it was great to see Rory whore it up for a while. :D

sin city is all about Marv, he is the king!

""This is blood for blood and by the gallon. These are the old days, the bad days, the all-or-nothing days. They're back! There's no choice left. And I'm ready for war.""

as i said sin city is all about Marv!

the other stories in the film where just "OK" IMO
