Good grief do most of you here only experience life through the internet? Seeing some of the a seers on the first page is mind boggling. It fell out of fashion around mid to late 2000's, but still used in media as a way to depict jerk characters. I remember joking about this in the early 2000's as an edgy teen by saying stuff like "words evolve, gay used to mean happy, then homosexual, now it means bad, get with the times"

Yes, this is also true. It's a victim mentality really at It's core. When there is none to be found one will then be found and most of the people that do this are highly suggestible type so throw some free Internet browsing on top of that and that's the result. I'm now a believer that people should need a license of some kind to parade the internet these days. Would syphon off a lot of the cunts.
Most of these people that do this as I say are that one fat person back in that sleepover party shifted off to the side looking on menacingly as her cute friends all pose for their picture. Sure they're funny to look at but little did we know what was stirring beneath.

It's not like I'm " offended" when people say " omg that's gay" but when people started to say it it was irritating at best. It's just an annoying word when it's used like that. I also hated the word 'yank' being used for Americans as well. Another one of my pet peeves.
It associated the word gay = something that fucked up so no I didn't see it as being a good thing. It also tended to be complete knackers that used it with their scummy accent so that didn't help either.
So ya I'm glad that one kinda phased out where I am. It is just a word at the end of the day though and it's not like I'd call someone out if they used it in front of me. I have wayyyyy thicker skin than that.

Knackers with a scummy accent calling something gay takes me back haha. Nowadays I'd be much more hesitant to call something gay mainly cause there's much more better words to use than gay now. It's such an outdated term and not really offensive to use anymore really. It just sounds more childish than offensive now hearing someone use it to describe something. There's a lot worse stuff you hear here nowadays.

Here in my city we have like 50 different words to call them, one less flattery than the other...gay people has to be overly grateful that americans and most of civilized places use the word gay to call them because they don't know how much worse is in places where SWJ stuff doesn't exist and people doesn't give a fuck about being offensive.

Anyway, the first time I had it brought to my attention was in 7th grade (1999?). It was becoming pretty rampant that the kids were calling each other gay as an insult. Eventually my school stepped in, called an emergency rally and spent 30 minutes talking about how it's bad to use gay as insult and how they were going to start punishing people if they are heard using it.
Seemed to work. Everyone calmed down.

Being respectful of the LGB community by not using "gay" or worse as pejoratives really wasn't a big deal. I think it's great that we've come a long way of being more respectful and understanding of other people. Anyone can love whoever they want (consenting adults) and even get married. All great stuff and simple and easy to understand.

I've had to stop my self saying it a few times. It's not something I would say often but certain situations it may try to slip out.
It's weird how it's one of those words you used when your were a kid without knowing to much about it and even when you did know it still didn't matter, it was a staple of your vocabulary.
