Singstar 80s confirmed, provisional tracklisting within...

Eurogamer have got the scoop on Singstar 80s, due out on PAL in Q4 this year. The provisional songlisting isn't *too* bad but I'd say there are a few weird choices (wrong Cure song for starters), but it has ICE ICE BABY which is good enough for me.

The supposed provisional list:

Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby
Belinda Carlisle - Heaven is a Place on Earth
Simple Minds - Don’t You (Forget About Me)
The Cure - Just Like Heaven
Nena - 99 Red Balloons
Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Power of Love
Blondie - Atomic
Kate Bush - Running up that Hill
Foreigner - I want to know what love is
Europe - The Final Countdown
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Wham! - Wake me up before you go, go!
Pretenders - Brass in pocket
Billy Joel - Uptown Girl
Erasure - A little respect
Starship - We built this city
Katrina and the Waves - Walking on Sunshine

Could do with more old skool hip-hop (Beastie Boys - Fight For Your Right, MC Hammer - You Can't Touch This and Run DMC Vs Aerosmith - Walk This Way) and more cheesy pop (Spandau Ballet - Rio, or even better, True, and maybe some Madness) and a smattering more big-haired rock (Guns n Roses - Sweet Child o' Mine, Bon Jovi - Living on a Prayer, etc) but it'll do very nicely. There's still room for them, since each disc usually has 30 songs on it and that list is barely 20 songs.

Actually I really wish they'd do a 2 DISC version for the 80s, as there's so much good material to work with, but I bet they won't.

A simple equation for you: Booze + mates + Singstar = GREAT TIMES. :D
We usually create our own music when that happens.. guitars and a drum kit do wonders.

Apart from the Cure song not being Inbetween Days and a lamentable lack of power ballads other than The Final Countdown, my god, they've made it just for me.

Wait, I hadn't seen We Built This City and I Want To Know What Love Is. They did make this just for me!

Needs more Take On Me.

Why? That was already on the original SingStar...

(If you've never played SingStar before - if it's like the other 3 discs, you can hit select on the song select screen, pop any other SingStar disc in, and play with the songs on the other disc...so even if they have rule/interface changes, you can still get your A-Ha fix in with the new modes :)

Now please gimme a Singstar Abba, Sony!

I'd buy a new SingStar every 2 weeks! Can't get enough of them. SingStar >>>>>> Karaoke Revolution.

Vanilla Ice is concidered SINGING?

The last game, Singstar Popworld, introduced a rapping system, which works better than the terrible one in Get On Da Mic. Well it gave me good scores for doing Eric B & Rakim's "Paid In Full" on a regular basis so it's *obviously* well done. (Popworld also had Outkast's "Roses" and that shitty Black Eyed Peas "Shut Up" song for you to rap to as well).

No Queen - no buy.

Indeed. This sounds pretty shitty, really. Good to see Foreigner, but they have much better songs. Hot Blooded, JukeBox Hero, or Urgent would be awesome. There's no Journey, either. Why don't developers ever put some metal on there? I'd buy a game if I could sing Run to the Hills or Hallowed Be Thy Name by Iron Maiden. Hell, I do that every weekend when I get drunk.

You have to think of the market they're aiming at (which is largely mid-late 20s "trendy urbanites" and "the kids"). Singstar, like all good karaoke, is about popular stuff that everyone knows (in theory, I didn't know some of the stuff on Popworld AT ALL as it was aimed at "the kids" rather than me).

Certainly in the UK the only big song that Foreigner had was "I Want To Know What Love Is", and Journey made no impact here at all, hence them not being on there. As for metal? The original had Ace of Spades by Motorhead and Born To Be Wild by Steppenwolf (OK so it's more rock) and What's My Age Again by Blink 182 (OK so it's more "power pop punk" or whatever) were on Popworld (as were The Hives).

Queen songs are probably massively expensive to license and I guess that they have a fixed budget per title and one massive famous song might take up the budget of 2-3 lesser songs, and they have to get 30 songs per game.

I'd love them to put I Want To Break Free or Another One Bites The Dust (or even Under Pressure, which works well as a duet) into 80s, although I know for a fact that Bohemian Rhapsody has been discounted from the game as it was only a hit in the 70s and 90s. Lets hope the fifth version (which I'm sure will come in Spring 2006, given the rate that the games have been coming out at) will be a Classics disc and might have Queen and Abba and other karaoke standards on it.

HAST DU ETWAS ZEIT FUR MICH DANN SINGE ICH EIN LIED FUR DICH VON 99 LUFTBALLONS

That's all that matters. I suppose I'll have to buy the German version.

If you're not finding it's widespread, it is made in the UK iirc. Maybe SCEE and SCEA need to get on it. It could possibly be something to do with that.

SCEA probably looked at Karoke Revolutions figures and decided not to bother, which is a shame but I can see their point. They're very keen to do their own thing (maybe they think they know best?), rather than bringing over SCEE stuff (or even SCEI titles; the number of internal games that Europe has taken from Japan, which the US has turned down out of hand is fairly astounding).

I presume that Buzz! (that SCEE developed quiz game, which will probably be "this years Singstar/EyeToy-type talking point" at Xmas) will probably suffer the same fate and not be published in the US.

Why won't they release this in the US? Or did they and I am a tard?
somebody had posted some time ago that he thought there was some kind of deal where US would have KR and the rest of the world Singstar. I guess the rest of the world wins

From Eurogamer, this is the final line-up for the game:

Culture Club - Karma Chameleon
Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby
Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World
Belinda Carlisle - Heaven Is A Place On Earth
Simple Minds - Don't You Forget (About Me)
The Cure - Just Like Heaven
Nena - 99 Red Balloons
INXS - Never Tear Us Apart
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Power Of Love
Blondie - Atomic
Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill
Foreigner - I Want To Know What Love Is
Fairground Attraction - Perfect
Europe - The Final Countdown
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
Pretenders - Brass In Pocket
Billy Joel - Uptown Girl
Erasure - A Little Respect
Duran Duran - Rio
Starship - We Built This City
Katrina And The Waves - Walking On Sunshine
Tina Turner - Simply The Best
Madonna - Material Girl
Alice Cooper - Poison
Survivor - Eye Of The Tiger
Run DMC - It's Tricky
Dolly Parton - 9 To 5
Madness - Our House

Some quality stuff in there (but the WRONG Run DMC song, it should be "Walk This Way" but I bet the fact it has Aerosmith on it made it too expensive to license) and that's a FACT. It's out in November; can't wait.

Why? (honest question, here in America we can't play Singstar)

Better song selection (but that's a matter of taste of course), original versions of songs + their actual music videos (no crap MIDI versions), EyeToy support (for maximum embarassment), better handling of multiplayer (since the Popworld disc with profiles), new discs released roughly every 6 months (80s will be the 4th disc). That's just a few reasons.

Source please? :D

It could be a great idea, especially if they get the absolute classics on it (especially Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody).

some french guys, but when i asked the SCED pr manager, he could only smile and was somewhat surprised about my knowledge.

trust me, ist coming. you will see far more specialized singstar releases in the future. you can expect (if it sell) something similar with the upcoming quizz game BUZZ.

Sounds promising, I hope you're right. :) Even if it were only a 15 or 20 song disc, rather than the usual 30, an even more budget Christmas edition could be good fun.

I know that SCEE have done massive amounts of hiring of people to work on EyeToy AND Singstar products at Studio London in the last few months, so it wouldn't surprise me if they started ramping up the number of Singstar titles produced from 2 a year to 3 or 4 per localised version.

There is already a Singstar Svenska Hits (Singstar Swedish Hits), I don't think that one has been released outside of Scandinavia.

Just what he said.
And where's the Singstar Rock Edition?
