SingStar Pop

That's great! I was about to start a thread for SingStar as I got my copies of SingStar and SingStar Party yesterday (yes I know, I'm very late to the party) and was singing straight from 5pm to 11:30pm. These two games are great! Best performance so far: Ricky Martin Livin' la vida loca. But I also got great scores with Jamelia and Westlife on the original SingStar and Spandau Ballet, Dido, Maroon 5 and Franz Ferdinand on SingStar Party.

Didn't know that Pink songs were so hard to sing.

btw, is Singstar out in the States? And how did it perform?

Why? Sometimes Sony is a mystery for me. Do you know how the Karaoke Revolution games sold? Is there a market for such games in the states?

KR does well enough that they've done three games so far...

...although they haven't announced a fourth yet :( Hopefully at E3?

I prefer SingStar overall - definitely picking the new one up once it hits...hopefully they can outdo Get On Da Mic with a working scoring system for hip-hop :)

na - we get singstar, you get karaoke revolution. i think, sony and konami made some kind of agreement. last year, as i asked the konami of europe manager wolfgang ebert, why karaoke revolution (stage) isnt coming out here, he stated licensing problems as reason.

That's so sad. Ever since it was announced in the U.S., I have harboured dreams of singing "Bizarre Love Triangle" in front of my telly.

!!!

Is that on Karaoke Revolution?

There's only so many times I can butcher Jamelia's SUUPERSTAAR!! in front of a crowd, but New Order. Hmm...

Press release:
SCEUK announces SingStar Popworld for UK release

London, March 2005 - Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) is pleased to announce the May 2005 release of SingStarTM Popworld, a perfect addition to the million-selling SingStarTM franchise launched in 2004 on PlayStation®2.

Complimenting the acclaimed SingStarTM range with a fresh new look and a broad contemporary song selection, SingStarTM Popworld includes 30 new tracks and supports the impressive list of household-names already featured in the SingStarTM range, a great recipe to spice up any party!

All the tunes in this unrivalled line-up are easily recognisable and fun to sing with many chart-topping hits of the last three years. The track list is filled with music superstars including original artists such as Avril Lavigne, Jamelia, Keane, Robbie Williams and the Black Eyed Peas.

Classic gameplay modes from previous SingStarTM games make a welcome comeback in SingStarTM Popworld. Pass the Mic and Duets return, along with new original features such as "Rap Scoring". Gain extra points as you battle against your crew to see who is the master of the mic, with the ultimate MC showdown! In Medley mode, short segments of five different songs are strung together, challenging would be pop stars to think fast and score high before the tune changes. In addition, SingStarTM Popworld incorporates brand new voice filters that can be used in Playback Mode to distort and enhance players' vocal performance.

Developed by SCEE's London Studio, SingStarTM Popworld comes with two microphones that plug into PlayStation 2 via a USB adaptor, offering an instant multi-play experience as the SingStarTM technology analyses the player's vocal skills, based on their pitch, tone and rhythm. The game is also EyeToy® compatible allowing players to actually see themselves singing within the game.

Whether you want to Entertain like Robbie or Sing like Jamelia, there will be loads of new tracks for you on SingStarTM Popworld. Releasing this spring, exclusively on PlayStation 2.

Appearantly Gwen Stefani will also be featured in the game.

Woohoo, there's Robbie Williams! I hope the song the chose is Feel. I love that song. I'm still hoping they're going to put Abba in there. And another Spandau Ballet song would be great! Or some other eighties pop (erasure, simply red, ultravox and so on).

Why do they feature Jamilia again? Don't tell me she has done other songs than Superstar?! :D

Of course. The last part of the release:

Popworld Offering:

Coverage on air, including editorial piece with presenters / artists playing the game and viewer competitions on up to four occasions

Access to email database of 300,000 consumers which we can use on up to four occasions

Extensive coverage online with a dedicated homepage editorial area on the Popworld website for a one month duration on up to four separate occasions

The same was done with SingStar Party in France

She's got a cover of the Sam Brown track - "Stop" on radio rotation just now.

Either it hasn't passed the British Channel yet or I've never noticed it. I'll listen more carefully these days. :)

Well, I've heard it on either Swiss, German or French radio, so it's around.

OMFG!!! I'm on the last event of the Singstar career mode and they want me to make 20000 points by singing three songs. While I'm really good in Superstar and Livin' la vida loca, I believe in a thing called love is insane to sing.

As someone who preferred SingStar Party to the original, I have to admit I'm kinda meh on this song list...but!

Eric B and Rakim! The Clash! TOM JONES!

I'm so there anyway. :)

hopefully they will kick some uk/us popcrap out of this list and take some good songs for germany in - like in singstar party.

How does this series compare to KR?

I like it better than KR. Having the actual videos play in the background is nice and having the original song instead of a cover version adds a lot.

It's also harder than KR - you have to know the song better in order to do well at SingStar, with KR you can kinda see the pitch you're singing at and just line the arrow up if you don't know the song well...

I'm stoked, SingStar Pop has a localised version for Australia and New Zealand, with 10 of the 30 songs being from Aussie or NZ! WOOOHOOOOOO :D

Here's the confirmed Aussie/NZ tracklisting:

Anyone heard news on when SingStar Pop is actually being released? They originally said May, but May begins tomorrow. I've also heard something like June 20th. Here's hoping it's late May rather than late June!
