Sleeping Dogs 101 trailer - RDR style

Square should really let them include a Square-Enix radio channel in the game.

haha I didn't even think of that, that would be kick ass! You are on to something there...if this game had a cop that looked like Cloud or some other FF tie in, it would be free marketing. At least the FF fanbase would get interested in it.

Gonna check these out. My copy is already purchased from Greenman. Gotta say, this kinda came out of nowhere.

Soon? Game was supposed to come out in July 2011

It's been 'done' for at least 6 months now.

I've been following this game off-and-on since 2010, but I still thought it was releasing in October of this year.

I need a good urban free-roam game and this will fit the bill quite nicely

I couldn't make it ten minutes of the first one with that commentary. The game itself looked good though.

Emma Stone
Lucy Lui
Tom Wilkinson

And a bunch of names they blocked out because they are "surprises"

Did not realize they were pumping that much money into the voice actors.

Looks like it'll be a fun time, and lots of little city details to partake in. Getting closer to buying. Just need a few reviews to make sure there are no major issues.

Yeah just finished the video and this is the GTA in an Asian city everyone always asks for. Other than potential loading time issues im really damn impressed. Navigation is kind like Assassins Creed and fighting is like Batman.

The Voice cast looks so promising! I'm going under Media blackout- this game looks utterly amazing. I can't wait to explore Hong Kong.

By who? Amateurs?

I'd love a dub as much as the next person, but I'm thankful enough as it is to have an open-world game set in Hong Kong.
There's Cantonese in the game. Watch that 40 minute video; sure those dudes are speaking over it but there are parts where you can hear it clearly. I mean I guess it could be a dub or they should've had more dialogue in Cantonese than English, but it seems authentic enough to me (I'm Cantonese) that it really shouldn't be an issue.

Looks promising but the voice over is terrible. They get the secretary to do it like they used to do in old school adventure games?

Legit...saving face. So asian. lol

And do you guys really want full-blown Cantonese in the game? IT WOULD BE LIKE SOMEONE TYPING IN CAPS IN ALL OF THEIR POSTS. ;)

Just need that review consensus/GAF impressions to lock this in.

Why did activision drop this again?

Due to their internal reviews placing it below GTA and Saints in quality, and with that resulting in the conclusion that it would probably not become that big IP Activision would want, and the road to yearly releases would be a challenge, so they decided to cut their losses.

Yearly releases on content heavy games like this seem crazy,
they could monetize with significant DLC if they got the framework and all the systems down.

i loved true crime so mouch back in the days - but i cant find a decent preorder deal and iam sure it will drop in price quickly

Loving the look of it so far.
Won't be day1 with this thing as i'm still paying off my car. Will wait for the GAF consensus. If it is even halfway favourable then i will be getting it, I just don't want to fork out for a buggy sub-par GTA clone.

The Cantonese sounds surprisingly fine, although they seem to be throwing random swearwords in there and i'm not sure when they decide to use cantonese. It seems like the main characters would speak american english like Edison Chen, then secondary characters deliberately bad 'Hong Kong' English, then the rest like the police ould speak cantonese.

That doesn't really work for me with the story and being a mole etc and it doesn't always feel like Hong Kong in the videos, too much stereotypes not enough crowd, but having a game set in HK is a suprise already, so can't complain too much.

I generally associate HK triads with what i see in Johnnie To/milkyway movies nowadays, especially with To's two Election movies a few years back! I.e no gunplay at all:

lol, I love how only one person attacks him at the time and only in about 3-4 seconds after being idle. I hope we can choose more agressive enemies in the options.

edit: watched Gamespot's videos, melee combat seems to be much better in those

This might be a dumb question but when did all that voice recording happen? before or after Activision dropped it? I can't remember if the old True Crime Hong Kong videos had VO.

Nobody but me, DennisK4 open world aficionado, gave a shit about this game when it was called True Crime: Hong Kong.

What happened?

What kind of gimmicky marketing got you on board?

Liar. I wanted True Crime: Hong Kong and was bummed when it was suspected to be canned.

Lies!

I was pretty pissed that it was canned, and is happy to see it back.
