Sleeping Dogs 101 trailer - RDR style

Nobody but me, DennisK4 open world aficionado, gave a shit about this game when it was called True Crime: Hong Kong.

What happened?

What kind of gimmicky marketing got you on board?
What is this bullshit? I email United Front multiple times throughout the year for information bout this game. Even told them I was a press journalist to try and squeezed them information and they told me to wait. LOL!

What an awesome voice cast. I bought a copy of this for my brother for his birthday; I'm gonna have to get one for myself. I hope this game does gangbusters.

omg omg omg, I'm just now seeing this for the first time. This looks like a bit of GTA SA! Upgrades, fighting, awesome looking missions, nice car control (doesn't look too bouncy or annoying). it's out in August! Whoa I wasn't expecting to buy a game so soon. Going to wait a month to let the dust settle and see how it is for people, and San Andreas fans.

It looks so good, I'm glad people are stepping up to the plate. Now about that Watchdogs.

True Crime: Hong Kong.

True Crime?!!! Oh man I'm so in on this. I'm happy I don't follow games so closely now, I tend to forget about stuff and the next thing I know they are here.

Edit: Just saw the voice acting vid... Production Value through the roof or what? How did they get these people on board? How has this game not caught my eye earlier?

Hell, I even played True Crime NYC. You played a cop and your dad was a big crime boss in jail but his cell was pimped out.

I love how the devs casually throw out Emma Stone, Lucy Liu, Kelly Hu and Tom effin' Wilkinson as part of their voice cast like it's no big deal whatsoever.

Also really looking forward to this game, I really hope they polish up the combat system nice and shiny.

Im kinda shocked to see you guys are/were such fans of True Crime. Wasn't that last one supposed to be pretty terrible? I remember only buying the original because Walken was a voice actor in it ("You need a big kick in the ASS") and thinking as a whole the game was pretty bad, like a poor man's Grand Theft Auto. However, I totally respect Luxoflux though for having the balls to create it, especially with it being the first open world game after the success of Grand Theft Auto III. That's one hell of a lead to follow.

Was Hong Kong really supposed to be that much better? Is Sleeping Dogs really what Hong Kong was and what it morphed into?

Half of these people you can hardly call "actors", let alone voice actors. Seems most of the additional money from SE was spent on stunt casting. I'll keep my expectations low.

At least they got Asian people to play Asian characters and didn't pull a hollywood. They are probably unknown because they aren't popular to hollywood's standard.

Wilkinson was already on board when the game was still True Crime, I believe. I remember seeing him on a page for voice actors in the game.

Also, the guy playing Ricky, Ian Anthony Dale, played Goatee Kazuya in that shitty Tekken movie.

True Crime 1 was pretty awesome. It got really weird in the last third, but all in all I enjoyed it because it mixed so many different gameplay elements.
If I remember correctly there have been random events where you could choose to neutralize or kill gangsters. I thought that this was a neat mechanic.

And wasn't even Snoop Dogg in it?

Snoop Dogg was indeed in the game. I just remember I bought the OST for True Crimes: Streets of LA. So good. I would love to see a cameo of Nick Kang in Sleeping Dogs.

Number of things.

A) Completely different developers. Lead is the same lead from Bully. UFG is also comprised of former R*(Bully, mostly) guys, former Volition guys, former Black Box, and former Radical.
B) The game wasn't originally supposed to be True Crime at all. They had been working on it for Activision and Activision decided they want to try to revive True Crime, so they asked UFG to put it on the title

And for people claiming Square was the ones trying to impress with all those voices. Most of those characters and voice roles existed before it was Sleeping Dogs.

Daaaamn dude. Is it wrong that I am practically sold on this game now that I know the lead designer worked on Bully and a lot of the team is from Rockstar Vancouver? Hahaha.

The main thing I loved about Bully was how they packed a shitload of detail into a smaller open world than usual. Size doesn't really mean anything if the world itself is bland as fuck, which was the case in the first two True Crime games. This one looks way better in that regard.

It looks fun, but I don't remember everyone in Hong Kong speaking English, with an American accent, when I visited. They all spoke Japanese like in Shenmue II.
hehe, i love GAF.

On Topic

This looks alot better than i thought it would be, I want this on my PC right now!
If they give the PC version as much attention as Saints Row 3 and Prototype got i am ready for this madness.

Im surprised this game isnt getting more hype, it looks damn good and its pretty close to launch

P.S If they fuck me and have a staggered PC release im going to lose it.

Damn, I kind of stopped paying attention to this one for awhile. Looking to be a quantum leap from what True Crime was. A bad ass martial arts GTA.

I am expecting a third True Crime. Janky fun that isn't nearly as refined as I like but I still play the shit out of it.

LA disappointed me so hard with it's jank and incredibly short length. Still gonna rent this though. Nice voice cast but it looks like they got Emma Stone to do VO when she wasn't that big (pre 2011) and her character doesn't seem very important looking at the cast picture released.

So PC (I have a shit PC at this point in time) or 360.

I'm thinking 360.

Those videos are pretty cool makes it seem more interesting then I thought.

I want this game right now

Same here. There is so much coming out that it just kind of dropped off my radar for a bit. Decided to check up on some of the latest footage and was beyond sold. A Kung Fu GTA that has Arkham Asylum type of combat on top of slick looking third person shooting and some fun use of the environment? Sign me the hell up. The game looks amazing.

I'm starting to become really optimistic about this the more I see of it. Didn't give a damn back when they first revealed it. And seeing as how GTA V is nowhere to be seen, this will hopefully give me my open-world crime fix for this year.

was it ever explained why they characters sound.....out of place should I say?

graphics look great though, I wonder what engine they are using.

damn, I'm going to have a tough choice between this and Darksiders 2. Both are looking great, they both have big great looking worlds to explore, Darksiders has loot, but Sleeping Dogs seems like a game made with a large dose of kung fu movies as inspiration...

I don't know which to pick up first, but I will get both eventually...

WAS GOING TO post about how there's no way I could care less about this, but pay phone combat + jumping to other cars + leveling up yr face at least has me paying attention.

Yeah, I'll be getting both. The big release season starts in August for me with these two games. As far as this goes, walking around a vibrant open world Hong Kong looking like Bruce Lee and pulling off badass moves with gameplay like Arkham Asylum will be pure gold.

August can't come soon enough... Between this and Darksiders 2, it's going to be the gaming salvation from this terrible July drought.

Yep. It bums me out that there's only one thing I want in July, and it's right at the end of the month and about 5 things I want in August.

This is the first thing that caught my eye. I was looking at the names and thinking to myself "WTF, they got Asian people to voice Asian characters?". I feel obligated to buy the game now for that reason alone.
