Smackdown!

*Smackdown Opens with John Cena, who says he usually makes fun of people but he has to give Booker T his respect. He talks about the Red Sox and the Patriots and made fun of Michael Cole. Carlito Caribbean Cool (Man, I loved him tonight and thought he was funny) makes his way to the ring. He says it would be cool if John Cena fought him for the United States title. They bicker back and forth. Carlito goes to grab the belt but Cena pulls it away and is hit with a COOL DDT. Teddy Long comes out and makes the main event Cena vs. Cool for the United States championship.

*Rey Mysterio defeats Kenzo Suzuki with a roll up Before the match, Kenzo sang “New York, New York” and did a kick line with Rene Dupree and Hiroko to get heat.

*WWE champion John Bradshaw Layfield did a promo, saying he was from New York City and insulted Boston - this may have been for just the live audience.

*Hardcore Holly defeated WWE champion John Bradshaw Layfield by countout. Layfield was busted open but walked out.

*Paul Heyman and Teddy Long argue and Long says he doesn’t agree with what Paul Heyman and Heindenreich did to the Undertaker at the PPV.

*Kurt Angle did a promo saying he wasn’t at 100% at No Mercy against Big Show.

*Teddy Long announces John Bradshaw Layfield will defend the WWE championship against Hardcore Holly in a Hardcore match.

*Big Show pinned Mark Jindrak with a chokeslam. Kurt Angle did commentary. Eddie Guerrero attacked Luther Reigns and stopped him from interfering.

*Josh Matthews interviewed Carlito Caribbean Cool who said it would be cool when he becomes United States champion.

*Billy Kidman vs. Charlie Haas - I believe this went to a no contest but it could have been a DQ as the bell never rang. Kidman wouldn’t do the shooting star press but hit the BK Bomb on Miss Jackie. Rico ran out for the save.

*Heidenrech came out and read a poem in the ring, then jumped into the crowd and threw some “fans” on the ground.

*Backstage, Booker T runs into Orlando Jordan. Jordan is being nice to him. Booker tells him never to touch him and if he does, “It’s all over, sucka”

*Carlito Caribbean Cool defeats John Cena to become to new United States Champion after hitting him with a chain and knocking him out.

Notes: The whole balcony was tarped off….I was annoyed there was no Paul London and no Undertaker - not even local boy John Walters in a dark match…The crowd was in a good mood all night because the Red Sox won and was into everything.

WTF. This guy better be good.

When the FUCK will they get that titles should be on established guys; when the title is just now starting to gain some momentum, this happens.

Cena is filming his movie, but there is no way a guy should dhave DEBUTED and won the title. Fuck, put the title in the Kidman/London feud, if you wanted to do that.

Vince has a ton of confidence in Carlito, obviously. I don't see a problem with him debuting and winning the title. The Smackdown titles don't mean anything at this point anyway. If they follow up this win with some good writing, it could work out well. In the past, I think The Giant debuted and immediately won the title in WCW and that worked great. That was the world title at that. It wll depends on how it is handled after he wins.

Well so far his gimmick is a shitty one, saying the word "cool" on every sentence, and his finisher is the Cool DDT.

I can't really speak on it as I haven't watched Smackdown in weeks.

I thought the vignettes leading up to his debut have been gold. I can't speak for his in-ring work but he definitely has charisma. If handled correctly, he could definitely rise to the top of the card in a short time.

Well said.

Look, providing a debuting worker with a title win right off the bat can do wonders for getting him over...his vignettes have been effective and we need more credible heels on Smackdown - JBL, entertaining as he is, won't cut it on his own, and Angle's going to be busy with the Undertaker leading up to Wrestlemania. The Booker/Cena feud is over, Frenchboy and Kenzo are farting about in mid-card tagteam hell, and the Dudleys are the Dudleys.

Give the new guy some instant credibility by getting a win over the brand's most popular face right off the bat, said face is out for a few months while the new heel champion runs roughshod through the rest of the upper midcard (and trash talking Cena constantly to keep the long-term feud present in the crowd's mind), then Cena comes back and the two of them can go at it until March.

Bish, I'll be honest. While all of that sounds absolutely perfect...there is no fucking way that they will bother to keep the feud fresh. They just don't do it, simple as that. They should; but was the Michaels/Kane feud really mentioned through Michaels' absense? No, it went straight to "Nine Months: Kane and Lita". They don't plan this ahead.

I seriously think they should have given it to Billy Kidman and have him feud with London over the title. Guarantees that you've got a feud with some backstory for the title to flip through. If I trusted Vince and Co., your idea is far superior, but I don't see the best case scenario actually occuring.

Anyone is better than Cena at this point. Colon can wrestle but the gimmick is hellalame. But like I said still better than Cena.

I should be writing for the WWE. Even as a continuity producer to ensure that history doesn't get left on the backburner - or worse, ignored entirely.

That's the thing; it's like they can't realize when they've got a great feud on their hands.

Whenver I would restart an EWR file, I would start with a WWE PPV exactly as it was, and go with it from there, inventing storyllines in my head. I also, for an extended period of time, actually wrote out all of the matches and interviews, basically creating my own storyline wrestling federation.

I lived a 14-15 year old existence.

Don't get me wrong, when he was here in Puerto Rico, Colon looked decent, but he was a cruiserweight and was less beefier. His repertoire consisted of flying head scissors, arm drags, hurricanranas with about 50 dropkicks thrown into every match and a variety of springboard attacks that made Jeff Hardy look good.

I'm hoping maybe he got schooled at OVW and now has better in ring psychology and pace.

First tragedy, then farce.
I think the ministry is re-dead.. and that kinda sucks :( It was a very cool idea. I mean, JBL buying off 'takers old crew? Classic. I wish they had done some mic work dealing with this, had it last significantly longer and go somewhere... also, how about a mention of Bradshaw being in the ministry?

I for one dont mind this, at all. In fact, I thought they were stupid to keep the belt on Cena (I thought Booker/London would become a feud for the US title). But this makes sense.. Carlito took the belt from the most popular wrestler on smackdown.. this will give him instant credibility and instant heat with most smackdown fans. His vignettes have been awesome, and lets face it.. his in ring work cant be any worse than Cena's or JBL's.

I think between him and Heidenrech Smackdown could have to potentially awesome new additions.. their charachters are pretty enjoyable, and even JBL is entertaining as hell so long as he isnt actually wrestling.

London/Kidman needs to go to the cruiserweight division.. no way in hell Nunzio is going to keep a solid feud going with anyone. They need the FBI back in the tag team division (which is actually getting pretty bulky nowadays). That will leave London with at least 3 main heels to work off of in the cruiserweight.. Kidman, Boss Spike and Chavito whenever he shows back up (please, no face turn).

I think the writing on smackdown has been really excellent.. my only complaint is the fact that they seem to switch gears too quickly with feuds.. Angle/Eddy has been going strong and then they come out of left field with Angle/Show. They developed Spike/Rey Rey really well and then dropped it so Rey could join up with RVD and fight Kenzo and Dupree.. hell, what happened to the pretty awesome feud between Dupree and Cena? or Angle and Cena? or JBL and Eddy? Or how about all the shit talking between Cena and Kenzo for a while there? Its like they have a severe case of amnesia or ADD, I cant tell which.

Right now creative seems to be going in two very different directions with its two shows, both of which bug me.. Raw seems to be on a very very slow story arc that hasnt really moved since WM20.. and Smackdown seems to have story arcs that last 2-4 weeks tops... oftentimes feuds that dont even last an entire show before they nix it to go with a completely off the wall match.

Yea, it seems like they're in a rush with everything. Kidman/London got cut short, the Lita pregnancy angle got cut short, Orton's title reign got cut short, etc. It seems that the art of storyline building is long dead as just about everything has to be done with in a couple of months.

One thing I do like though that they've been doing the last couple of years is having longer title reigns all around. The Intercontinental title should not change hands 25 times in one year. Whereas the average title reign was a month in 1999, it's about 3 months now. As for CCC, he could theoretically become a top heel quick with the write writing and in-ring work, but I think we're giving WWE too much credit there.

Another thing, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't put the belt on Cena now (besides the movie filming obviously). He's not a good wrestler, but either is JBL. Also, JBL has absolutely no one of worth to fued with now (unless RVD can dig his way out of the mid-card which doesn't look to be happening anytime soon). A fued with Cena with a title match at Survivor Series would've been perfect but since Cena is filming a movie JBL is stuck with Hardcore Holly, and we all know how Hollys last main event push ended.

They've been having pretty long reigns I thought. They had Trip's 6 month reign (I don't count Shawn Michael's one month title reign; was beyond stupid), and then Benoit's 5 month reign and now it's back to Triple H, possibly until Royal Rumble/WrestleMania (and again, I'm not counting these one-month WWE Champion-lite reigns).
