Smackdown vs Raw 2006 (3 Hogan Intros +Bret)!

Well I figured they couldnt get the official nWo theme (seeing how they skimp on DVDs now using licensed themes) and I was right nWo Hogan has some "similiar music" but not the same.

That being said they acutally "modeled" different hogans (not just attire changes) like 80s hogan looks young, nwo hogan looks well nwo like, and current hogan looks like the worn out "vegas grandma" that he is.

Oh yeah some german site has brets into also (which is AWESOME!)

Just got done watching the 80's Hogan intro... Talk about nostalgia, man! That intro is perfect right down to his mannerisms. Color me impressed.

Bret's intro was cool, but having the sunglass toss from the point of view of the recipient was kinda cheesy. :lol

Also, the PSP legend is Classic HHH, isn't it?

triple hs intro is "spot on" (I mean water spit / song point) just like tv

and i THINK the psp legend is jake the snake (im sure there will be action replay save with him unlocked sooner or later).

1. Do you have a video?

2. I thought "Classic HHH" was confirmed as a legend beforehand, tho. Dunno if I'd want Jake...

but then i remember it's a smackdown game and i'm bound to be dissapointed

such conflict

How many Triple H's and Hogan's do we need? Gimme Roberts any day of the week. The features and such all sound very cool....but at the same time I wish it was just a full legends title. About 85% of the roster I have no interest in.

GRAH

i hate "but its smackdown so meh"

having owned all current gen smackdowns AND ALL VERSIONS of KOC (RED GREEN and 2) and every Fire Pro since 6 man S on the fricken saturn (yes even the gba and G on PSX) I ll come right out and say it

smackdown isnt that bad of a wrestling game. yes everyone has an aki hard on I know, go and play their next "fubu fighter" game then, call me when they make a REAL wrestling game again. *slams gavel*

and just for you matlock

Very cool to see the classic cage is in the game, the only one that's any good (fuck the modern day chicken wire fence crap). Bret intro looked great, though I'm disappointed he doesn't have the skull jacket from '97. And he'd better have alternate outfits...I wanna wrestle in the black on black gear damnit! Anyway, feature wise the game is sounding awesome...hopefully the game builds more on HCTP then last year's disappointing effort.

Same here. All the features I could ever ask for in a WWE game, but tainted by the same broken core gameplay elements that have existed since 2000 and still haven't been fixed.

Exactly.

Despite having this conflict, I did buy the last few. But now I know better. I literally played SvsR for 3 minutes and ended it there. Usually I take some time to create Norman Smiley in the CAW, and give him a ring entrance animation from any of the Diva's for a good laugh, but I didn't even bother doing THAT.

One of the secrets should be an alternate Shawn Michaels costume from when he was doing his Hulk Hogan impersonation from a few months ago.

Hey, they've already got three separate Hogans in there, so why the heck not? You'd get your HBK and your Hogan at the same time--the best of both worlds! :D

It's funny as hell seeing Bret wrestling the most vicious match of his career to that point against Diesel, while looking like the Energizer Bunny. :lol But yeah, I want all his alternate colour schemes...give me the choice Goddamnit!

I really sense a case of people forcing themselves to like Smackdown cause, well, it's all they're going to get with a WWF license on it.

Last one I played was one of the early PS2 versions. It was that bad I haven't touched it since. But I can't deny this has the kind of features, roster and options I want in a rasslin' game.

I've just downloaded a gameplay trailer and it still looks to suffer from what it did 4-5 years ago in that the players look very unrealistic in how they move. The motion blur for finishers is god-awful. Someone fire the guy who thought that was a good idea. On the plus side most of the animations of the moves themselves look to have improved ten-fold (yet I still noticed some clipping). And the graphics look good. From the looks it'll be worth a rental just to see the improved entrances and mess around with the CAW.

And no - before anyone says it - I have no interest in playing Def Jam-whatever it is.

Whatever happened to the WWE trying to get out of their deal with THQ and Yukes? Do you think they realised they were getting better sales on the N64 with its smaller userbase (in comparison) than what they are today? It does speak volumes...

I'm sure other people force themselves to like all sorts of shit (actually it's pretty fucking obvious when I read the threads on this board). Truth is I've only owned two wrestling games in my life in HCTP and Smackdown vs Raw, the latter I got rid of with the quickness since I thought it was a step down from the previous game. The only other wrestling games I've put any real time into was Royal Rumble and Raw on the Genesis. :lol I've never had a N64 to play the great measuring stick known as No Mercy. I have fun with HCTP, despite the game having some issues. So I regard it as a good game, and hope this new one can build on it, instead of regressing. How others feel about the game is of concern to me.

The motion-blur and spinny camera effects for finishers are player-activated. If you don't like them, don't activate them during finishers.

There also may be the factor that the WWE product (that is, the shows) isn't as good nowadays at it was during the N64 era. The reason why the WWE wanted THQ to make Yuke's develop all of the games is because AKI didn't want to make the game in the way the WWE wanted them to. WWE wants the games to mirror the TV shows and PPVs, and Yuke's was doing a better job of it.

I can say with confidence that this year's game is the best ever at doing that.

I'm no Nintendo fan/cheerleader, but the 64 is worth it for AKI's games alone.

The most fun I've had with a Playstation wrestling title was New Japan Pro Wrestling: Toukon Retsuden 3 on the PS1. Developed by Yukes; produced by Tomy. The animations and gameplay were sweet and smooth as hell. I have zero interest in Japanese wrestling but the presentation and gameplay were leagues ahead of what Yukes' Western efforts I've played (SD!1 through to SD: SYM). I just don't get it... what changed?

I kind of assumed they were. I personally don't see the point of the blur/slow-mo finishers. It's akin to an art student using all the effects and filters they find on Photoshop in their first peice, just because they can... AND FIXED CAMERA FTW!

That may be the case (and I don't want this to turn into a what's wrong with the current WWE product debate) but even when it was N64 taking on the PS1 (aka David and Goliath) AKI's efforts were performing much better considering the userbase. Surely someone at the WWF must have seen the numbers, compared the userbases and spoke up about this.

80's Hogan entrance was great...but it will never be perfect until he rips the shirt!

nWo Hogan's music was catchy even though it's not the original....and Bret's intro was good! This game is gonna rock.

Beats me, I never played the previous games. I'm not gonna be a shill for HCTP or the upcoming game, but most feel HCTP was a lot better then the previous games. Why do they say that? I honestly haven't a clue. :lol But I have found it enjoyable, which is all I care about...though again, there's defintely room for improvement.

I know, slightly OT...

Thanks to Blackace I just got in Fire Pro Returns on Saturday. ZEE OMG!

Loving it so far! Great, great title. This should tide me over until SDvsRaw06 comes out. I am really looking forward to it. The only reason my PS2 remains of my shelf is due to the wrestling titles. Smackdown, King of Colloseum and Fire Pro make me a happy, happy fan boy.

Now for Hogan, instead of the knock off NWO music why not go back and get Hendrix again? They afforded it at one point, so why not now?

eh imo the smackdown engine is pretty good, yes people on here will swear by fire pro and KOC 2 and yes I own those games and yes THEY are GOOD, but smackdown has come along way since its SD1 roots, primarily because the devs snoop on message boards and listen (for the most part) to the fans, but some stuff in the sd engine needs work like better apron moves, spinning an opponent, etc I figure in 2 or 3 more game we will have fully caught up to no mercy type control over the action (LOLz!1).

Man, all the greats had some serious charisma. They were literally comic book characters come to life, and acted brilliantly. The successful ones that is. Not in dialogue or anything, but the swagger of Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Stone Cold.. Just a load of confidence. And a lot of people say it's themselves exaggerated. Which makes sense that they would play that role best. A lot of the stuff today, every mannerism, speech, and look seems like an SNL skit. There's definitely some realism missing. Remember when people didn't know wrestling was fake? I mean, it obviously was back then. Nobody lived so exuberantly, and they had the lesser characters entirely unbelievable. But there was a transparent realism that's missing now. It felt like if you actually trashed one of those guys characters, they'd take it personally. They believed in the character, the extension of themselves.

Heh, looking back on the various Bret Hart/Steve Austin matches and vinettes makes me want to cry. The realism and intensity those two created in and out of the ring was simply off the charts. And the shit talking was a laugh riot as well.

I think Bret is usable in the season mode (I know some of the legends are...think Bret might've even provided voice for himself), so I'm planning to use Bret and lead a new Hart Foundation with Jimmy as manager, Benoit, and a created Anvil and beat the crap out of Austin, HBK, Hollywood and Flair. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to create those scenarios.

Im not saying they are terrible games by any means, just that they could be alot better. If there one thing that I hate about smackdown games is that you can be stuck on the mat for ages with little to no hope of getting back up till your opponent decides to try something other than floor grapples, reversals or not. Needs a bit of balancing really and get some better animation.

I agree I think they kinda over compensated here, they went from "sd1 NO SELLING anything" to omg I got chopped im out for 10 minutes, needs better tweaking, and aparently they have reanimated 50% or so of the moves (motion capture more like it) which can either be good or VERY BAD (WM 21 on xbox), so that remains to be seen...

gimme a game with 40-50 of those "level of detail" legends that you shown in svr06 and Ill die a happy camper :lol

That's a really good idea. I'd like to see them try something like this, along the lines of Acclaim's Legends of Wrestling series. Or, they could just have one huge game (for next year, perhaps) that would integrate a large roster of legends (in the neighborhood of 40-50, as you said) along with the current superstars.
