Played against the new Wukong in Arena yesterday. He's definitely strong. I wrecked everyone's shit with Ao Kuang, but we still only won by 2 points at the end. Definitely a tense ending!

The most satisfying thing in the world is to have a Loki jump you only to die from a tornado + squall + polynomicon auto attack. Or when you drop your ult as you're running away and it nails two chasers.

Can you play this competitively with a 360 controller? IMO, third person games = controller is always better (unless it's a shooter). Which is why I'm curious, here...

In other words, will Kb+M users have an edge over me if I play with a controller? Also, how good is the implementation?

Pretty sure it doesn't have any native controller support though it COULD work with the sacrifice of some shortcuts. Honestly I haven't tried it but I've thought about it. Disadvantages would include:

  • Harder to use the VGS communication system
  • Few if any room for shortcuts (ie upgrading skills)
  • Slower targeting unless your sensitivity was way up

Like I said, it could work but you would be at a disadvantage for certain things. Does the 360 chatpad work on PC? That might alleviate a lot of the shortcut stuff. I'll have to test that later today.

EDIT: I think the Steam controller would probably work really great and could fill a lot of gaps with the touchpad (PS4 controller might as well for the same reason). One of the many reasons I'm excited to try it.

I had a dream I was using the Steam controller and it was amazing. Like everything worked perfectly and I was dominating everyone in CounterStrike and Dota.

it also pushes them forward when the ult hits them so you can drop tornadoes in front of you after you ult and if the ult dosnt kill them the tornado will

That's a good idea. I used to hate Ao Kuang but he is fucking lethal if you know what you're doing.

Ah Muzen Cab Patch Notes

New God Preview:

oprah-bees.gif

They showed off the new Assault map on stream. It looks so damn epic. Also more visual updates from jumps, to new Fire Giant.

Golden Noodle and Artemis also released, really nice card art too. New Vulcan should be out soon as well.

OH GOD THE BEES said:
New God: Ah Muzen Cab

Bees! (PASSIVE)
Enemies afflicted by Bees! take 10 (+15% of your physical power) physical damage every .5s for 3s and are revealed on the minimap. The Bees! will also attack any nearby enemies that aren’t already affected by Bees!, continuing to spread to nearby enemies over time.

Hive
Ah Muzen Cab creates a new hive at his ground target location, providing him with 20/25/30/35/40% movement speed and 10/20/30/40/50% attack speed while also healing him for a 4/6/8/10/12 (+3% of your physical power) every second that he remains near the hives. The hives can only be destroyed by basic attacks (maximum 8 hives). Cost - 35/40/45/50/55. Cooldown - 8s.

Swarm
Ah Muzen Cab summons a large swarm of bees that fly forward in a path in front of him, dealing 60/115/170/225/280 (+80% of your physical power) physical damage to all enemies hit and applying Bees! to them. Cost - 65/70/75/80/85. Cooldown - 16/15/14/13/12s.

Honey
Ah Muzen Cab sprays honey at a moveable ground target location, slowing all enemies in the area by 10/15/20/25/30%. Bees from nearby Hives and Swarm will fly over to protect the honey, dealing 20/30/40/50/60 (+20% of your physical power) physical damage every .5 second and applying Bees! to all enemies as they leave the honey. Cost - 65/70/75/80/85. Cooldown - 10s.

Stinger
Ah Muzen Cab fires off an enormous stinger that deals 275/355/435/515/595 (+100% of your physical power) physical damage to all enemies in a line, sticking into the first god that is hit, applying Bees! and crippling them for 3 seconds. If the target dies, gets cleansed of Cripple or after 3 seconds, the stinger falls onto the ground for 4 seconds. If Ah Muzen Cab picks up his stinger, he gains an 80% reduction to Stinger's cooldown. Cost - 100. Cooldown - 90s.

Re-arted Assault Map (Asgard):

The Mythology (Simplified):
Heimdall sounds the horn, letting all of Valhalla know that the Ragnarok was finally upon them. Hel and her horde of dishonorable dead have reached the shores to fight one last time on the battleground of Vigrid.
It is foretold that Odin would be killed by Fenrir, Thor would kill the Midgard serpent but would also die of his wounds, and Loki would fight Heimdall, killing both of them in the process. Tyr and Garm, a watchdog of Hel, would also kill each other. Finally, the sun and the moon would be swallowed by the wolves Sköll and Hati.
Odin stands tall among his enormous army made up of only the bravest of humans. This would be the battle to end all battles. Odin, along with many other Norse gods, knew they would perish this day. The only comfort that was to be had was knowing that this battle would not be the end of the world, but only because of their actions.

The Map:
Asgard is our all random all mid map that fills this popular niche in MOBAs. The map is set in Asgard on the battlefield of Vigrid. It takes place during the Ragnarok, a foretold "end of times" battle that would wipe the world clean and it would start again.
On one side of the map there is the architecture in the style of Valhalla and a boat landing area where Odin's army lands more troops by the minute. The world tree can be seen in the sky made up of a giant nebula. It is also important to note that this map does not depict Valhalla itself, only a small area of the battlefield of Vigrid.
On the opposing side Hel's presence alone has started to disrupt and destroy Asgard. Giant stones lift from the icy soil and begin to float. Two monstrously huge Hel-hounds have been brought to remind all that oppose Hel's army that they are not to be taken lightly and have great power. Behind the spawn fountain is the ship "Naglfar". This is the ship that Hel brought her army from Helheim.
NEW EPIC SOUNDTRACK ADDED TO THE MAP!!!

New Skins:
Sting (Ah Muzen Cab)
Golden Ao Kuang (Au Kuang)
Golden Artemis

Voicepacks:
Ah Muzen Cab
Bakasura
Hades

Other more in-depth changes in the notes.

DAT NEW ASSAULT MAP!

It's funny, I've almost exclusively been playing Assault lately just so I don't have the anxiety of picking a god.

I really like Assault, forces me to learn gods I wouldn't play otherwise. I hate when some idiot gets the healer though and spends the whole game as Ra spamming 3 at the enemy team. -_-

Assault is definitely my least favorite mode. I don't even know why I dislike it so much, I just do. Maybe it's because I really prefer being able to choose my own god.

I love the randomness of Assault although it sucks if the other team gets stacked with healers. Domination for me is my least played mode.

And damn the bee god looks like SO much fun =)

Can't wait to get home a fire up the patch.

Hopefully this isn't going to get me in trouble. I recently did a major overhaul to a site that might be useful to fellow Smite players.

http://smiterepo.com

Real-time (3 times a day) data aggregation from the top 300 players. Smite Repo collects the most recent 1000 matches and presents some interesting statistics that you can use to create your builds, whine about balance, or just satisfy your curiosity.

The newest feature being god profiles. Get a quick overview of common item builds and win percentages against other gods. Here is Bacchus as an example

http://smiterepo.com/#/gods/profiles/Bacchus

Let me know what you think and enjoy the site.

path of flames then drop fumes on them then flame wave and then ult then vel vel vel vel vel vel

edit: and by drop fumes on them i mean drop it so its part way in the path of flames but they are in the fumes itll go off instantly and stun them also will go off if they have the fire debuff on them

^ Yeah I try to do that but it never works out the way I want it. I know it can be done because I've seen great Agni players. But man when his sprint is on c/d he is so easy to kill.

I've almost farmed enough favor to buy a new god. I'm once again having trouble deciding on who. Zhong, Chronos, and Chang'e seem like really good mages. And Mercury and Ah Muzen Cob seem like great carries. Of those 5 gods, who do you guys think is most effective in Arena/Domination?

Yeah, I'm terrible with him too even in Assault. I've been getting surprisingly good with Bastet though and I'm relatively terrible with most of the assassins.

Bastet has grown on me a lot. I used to hate her but now she is probably my favorite assassin to play in Arena/Domination. Her leap is amazing and her DoT does awesome damage. I've had some great games with her.

AMC is really broken right now hes the best of the adcs

I don't have much experience against him. What makes him so strong? I played against one in Domination and his DoTs were really annoying for sure. Even as Odin his bees were able to chip away a lot of my HP while I was defending a tower.

His hive buffs were making him too powerful but I think they already nerfed that last patch. His Ult has a crazy short cooldown if you manage to pick it up and have any cdr.

Managed to finally hit 30 last week :D !!!

grats on 30 :D and yeah as for amc he has high mobility with his hives and super high burst

warrior tabi, jotuns wrath, qins blades, asi, death bringer, malice

Alright you guys are selling me on AMC. I'll play him in some practice matches to see if I like how he feels. The only other god I kinda want as much is Chang'e, but only if they buff her. I heard that last nerf she got has really set her back.

People on reddit have been bitching about Chronos being the most OP god in the game. He's definitely annoying with his ult but I've never felt like he was overpowered. I actually don't think any gods are super OP at the moment. Nothing like when Guan Yu or Ne Zha were new...

If I have played a good amount of DOTA 2 (roughly 200 hours or so) how easy/hard would it be to jump into this game? Looks really interesting, but im still hesitant.

Is there an in-game guide system for which abilities to level and items to buy?
How good is the Match Making?
Is it really skill based?

DOTA is a point and click game. This is actiony-third-person-shooterish game. It's hard to compare them. Smite is waaaaaaaaaaay easier to get into than DOTA, though, so you shouldn't have any issues.

There are "recommended" items to buy, and/or you can set the game to auto-buy for you (based on the recommended stuff). You can also build your own favorites menu for easy purchasing once you know what everything does.

I don't know what "MM" is. Map management? If so, it's nice.

It's definitely skill based. Some characters are clearly better for certain game types, and some characters definitely make better teams than others, but on a 1v1 basis, it's all skill.

I played SMITE before Dota 2, and SMITE is a much, much easier game to learn. First, there is only one shop to worry about (at your spawn) — no side shops or secret shops. Second, building items is way simpler, since there are no recipes and you do not combine items like in Dota; in SMITE you just buy items and pay gold to level them up. Third, the controls are WASD which is much easier than Dota's control scheme where you have to learn how to control the camera and all that jazz.

That said, it is a different game. So expect to climb up the learning curve like everyone else.

It shows the recommended (popular?) items for your god in-game, so yes, kinda. You can also save your own item builds.

Skill based? Well, every auto attack is a skillshot. I'd say "aim-based" is a better word for SMITE. But in terms of the game itself, I think that Dota 2 is a much more difficult and skill-based game.

Thanks to you both!

Ah sorry, Match making. MM is more of a DOTA/LOL term.

Ah, gotcha.

The matchmaking definitely needs some work. I have no idea what system they use, but it's not always perfect.

I have two friends that just started playing, and I was trying to show them the ropes. They're both level 1, and I'm level 16. We were matched up against a level 44 and got thoroughly stomped.
Normally it's pretty fair, though.

Good thing I haven't bought AMC yet! Dude got nerfed big time. Same with Zhong.

Any gods to stay away from or gravitate too as a new player?
For example, a new DOTA player wouldn't want to play Meepo or Invoker, but Skeleton King and Sniper are great for newer players.

That's hard to say. Really the only ones I'd say stay away from early on are some of the squishier Assassin/jungler Gods early on just until you're used to the map and buff locations. That sort of thing. But honestly, early level matches will have you mostly matched up with other people who have no clue about that stuff either so it wouldn't be a huge deal. As long as you're aware of your God's role (and having played DOTA I'd assume you'd have some knowledge of what that means), you'll do fine especially early on. You might want to play some Arena matches with whoever you choose just to get a feel of their attacks before you jump in to a Conquest game.

There is certainly no Meepo counterpart in SMITE. No god is that hard to play. But yeah the assassins are the most difficult, IMO.

Take Thanatos, for example: he does great damage but his spells cost HP and he is already extremely squishy, so if you miss his skillshot you are likely going to die.

I would also advise against:

Loki - Very squishy
Anhur - His stun and ult can be hard to land
Agni - One of the most difficult mages to play well
Aphrodite - She is SMITE's Io
Odin - Incorrect use of your ult can fuck you and your teammates over (kinda like Faceless Void)

*Edit: I should add some suggestions. Gods I think are easy to do OK with:

Ao Kuang - Max his 3 (tornadoes) and use it to easily clear creep waves. Use it in the middle of teamfights to apply a painful DoT to everyone in its radius. Use it to zone. Use it on top of yourself if you get ganked. His 3 is amazing. His other spells are good too, but seriously all you need to do is make good use of his tornadoes and you will make a positive contribution to your team.

Cupid - He was my first main ranged carry and I did very well with him as a beginner. He has a great kit: a nuke, a heal, and a dash. And his ult is a huge AoE mesmerize.

I'd write more but I'm typing this on my phone in bed and it's taking too damn long. I'll edit this post with more info tomorrow when I get on a computer.

Someone posted a similar thread on Reddit's r/smite board earlier today:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Smite/comments/1r23vv/which_gods_would_you_recommend_to_a_new_player/

So after playing a lot of Thanatos yesterday I am no longer really interested in him. Too goddamn squishy and his 1 is too difficult to land consistently. Loki is a much more worthwhile assassin to play, and I don't even like playing him that much.

AMC got nerfed really hard so I'm not sure if I want to buy him anymore. It kinda feels like they went overboard on him.

Chang'e got buffed so I still have my eye on her. People are still complaining that she's underpowered though...

How is Ne Zha doing these days? I haven't played him since he got nerfed.

Arachne is awesome now. That buff to her ult is amazing.

nothing for data mining this patch?

Mostly placeholder icons for Nu Wa and Chaac and this stuff:

Nu Wa's minion summon (the 2), will indeed summon one of those clay soldiers that are depicted in the icon. She seems to have 3 forms, actually, and they're based on her passive - depending on how many of those rainbow crystals she has (I don't exactly know how they are acquired, though). Her base form, the form for max amount, and the snake form seems to be in between.

Chaac, aside from having received new shiny icons, has been given some moves as well. With his 1, he throws his axe and leaps towards it (similarly to Thor's 1), and his passive seems to be some sort of building up type of passive. That's about all I can find, though.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Smite/comments/1r2y3k/vulcan_redo_patch_datamining_november_20/

How is Ne Zha doing these days? I haven't played him since he got nerfed.
I think Ne Zha has been returned to being pretty balanced. They changed his passive (All successful basic attack hits increase his HP5 (0.5 per stack, up to 50 stacks)) and gave his multiple Ring Toss bounces back. They didn't touch him in the last patch and I haven't heard anyone complain about it.

Interesting. I got pretty good with Ne Zha when he was free a while back. His steroid is beastly and he has a great gap closer. His ult is OK but it can screw him over because it gives the enemy's teammates time to come to his defense. Honestly I used it as an escape pretty often.

Has anyone played Zhong since his nerf? I wanna know how bad he got it.

hes not that bad hes still a beast in group fights even without his heal his damage and his cc are still great even with fist of the gods nerf
