so overall are you guys pretty pleased with the quality of hikachi? i've been holding off cause i"ve been busy with work since last friday, but could start testing this tonight.

I'm gonna hold off for a while until it is more ironed out. Some builds work some don't and overall it seems like its going somewhere but I don't want to constantly updated it each time more features and game compatibilities become available.

that's the impression I'm getting. Not really in a hurry to mod this thing but I'm definitely interested at some point

Quote for a new page. Anyone else having this issue?

mine went from ~258mb to ~238 in the latest version, after a full reset and with nothing added and no savestates

debug version shows some other numbers though, here's what mine says

NANDC size: 290.6MB, used: 7.7MB, free: 267.9MB
Used by games: 0.3MB
Used by save-states: 0.0MB
Used by other files (mods, configs, etc.): 7.3MB
Available for games: 268.2MB

I just closed that window and proceeded to add games then sync. The same thing came up for me and I was able to just close it. Make sure your SNES actually has the red light on at the point that your done flashing and installing drivers.

I don't get it. I can't get past this.

Kernel flashed succesfully. Driver has been installed. Whats the issue?

So my issue was due to me doing this in a virtualbox VM. You need to install the host extensions and enable ehci usb 2.0 for it to work on the rom moving steps.

Got it working.

Ripped games with retrode added them and they all worked.

I think it'd be useful if the people who were cleaning up or source higher resolution, cleaner scans of original game box art contribute that art to TheGamesDB.net -- that's the default source for Hakchi and it'd be ideal if the bulk of people could benefit from peoples' efforts. I just checked a bunch of box arts and was unpleasantly surprised at how crummy they were in quality.

I’d agree with this. Best Super Bomberman 2 (US) box is dingy at best.

Only played a few minutes, but the localization for Gunman's Proof is remarkably high quality.

Everyone make sure to play that, it's essentially a lost Zelda game (with cowboys!).

Yup. Had the same issue with my Mac as well.

The Quintet trilogy consisting of Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia/Time and Terranigma (I think, haven't played it) play more like a Zelda game, where you find and collect your power-ups via solving puzzles and clearing rooms of enemies instead of leveling up.

Haven't played Terranigma, but in Soul Blazer you definitely earn exp to level up.

So what platforms can you play with this? NES games work (with or without Retroarch)? What about GameBoy games (Advance included)?

After I've played a few games, I might make this a platformer/Zelda-machine for my mother who is a fan of those, and it'd be cool if this plays NES & GB(A), especially GB(A) because my mother has never been able to play portable games, too small screens. What are the best platformers that are not Mario/Donkey Kong Country (for SNES and any other platforms that might work)? Any good Zelda-like games I should think about?

I ran into this exact problem -- everything had been working fine, I'd put games on the Classic, but then suddenly I started getting this every time I'd try to sync. While I couldn't exactly solve the problem, I found out that -- while that message was up -- if I turned off the classic for a second and turned it back on *not holding the reset button* it synced perfectly. So, just turn it off, then turn it on.

If he was running "from" the RAR, he would have really been runig from a temp folder. If that got cleaned up, then anything in that temp folder was deleted.

Did you revert to the stock kernel before upgrading to 2.21b and flashing the new kernel? Or did you just flash over your existing hacked system?

I did not revert to stock, I went straight from 2.20 to 2.21b, was I supposed to? If I did so now would I lose any games/saves in the process?

I'm surprised Gundam Wing Endless Duel works on this thing. This game looks like it uses advanced chips like Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia.

This has nothing to do with your post, and everything to do with +1 for Fritz.

That said, this is a cool (non) move by big N, it almost seems like they are welcoming the modders, by evidently not securing the hell out of these things. Though admittedly, the Wii was notoriously easy to hack and they certainly didn't want that to happen.

Alright, done for now. All icons converted, UI updated and cleaned up, background swapped, etc. Need to work on some more frames soon. Once I get a few more frames together, I'll put all of my icons/frames/borders/etc. in my Drive folder and organize it for ease of access.

This looks great! I still haven’t went to the effort of actually putting any of the icons on my system...

Anyone have a recommendation for what version of FF4 to load on this thing, like which translation? I'd love to just have the original game but it's hard to go back to the version with all the removed stuff.

Hey guys, looking to put more games on my SNES Mini tomorrow. How does the save states works on Super Mario All Stars? Is there any problem? I'm thinking about this because it's a 4 in 1 game... Maybe a dumb question but whatever.
Thanks :D!

I just flashed to v2.21b then added some games, but while it was adding the games it told me to reflash or something to get the original games? I'm not sure where they went. Did I delete them accidentally? I am using the extra space module. What do I need to do to get them back? They show up as zig zags (no box art) in the "Original games" folder on my SNES mini when I turned it on on my tv. I wanted extra space, but I didn't intend to delete them if that's essentially what's happening.

You need to Flash Custom Kernel.

What's the proper method for patching PAL roms to work on the SNES mini? I added the LOrom patch to same zip as Micro Machines 2, and the game runs but the sound stutters.

Hakchi 2.21c Released

Minor update, nothing special.
  • Altered free space calculation.
  • Minor fixes for mods, "extra_space" mod is more safe now.
  • "Turbo A/B" hack working correctly now.
  • Scripts autoupdate, so you don't need to reflash custom kernel after every update.
  • Updated translations, added Portuguese (Brazil).
  • Force NTSC patching for SNES games is removed.
  • Tiny fixes.

Retried flashing it, didn't work. Uninstalled (back to factory settings), then reinstalled custom kernel, then installed mods, then once again while synching games it said I'm using an older version and need to flash to the new custom kernel for my "original games" to work. What the fuck?

Maturity, bitches.
I think by DKC3 all of Europe had said ‘f this’ to Super NES business and ran with the US style NOE cover. Even SCN, the most consistently NCL styled region after AUS, went with the NOE box:

http://www.tvspels-nostalgi.com/Bilder/Tvspel/N64/dkc3.jpg

Australia is the only NCL style cover I have been able to find:

http://www.mario-museum.net/images/collec_snes_dkc3_aus.jpg

Thanks for the answer. That pink is a bit much, so I'll stick to the black NOE style cover. Means each game in the DKC series sports a different template haha

Awesome! My problem is solved. And I have a ton of free space still.

Thanks for the heads up Robin64. I was getting frustrated and probably wouldn't have checked for an update before going to sleep.

;)

Assuming you are using the standard zip and have a hakchi folder somewhere, just drop the new files in there. It'll overwrite anything it needs to while keeping all your games etc intact.

So I download the new version, unzip it and drop the resulting Hackchi2 folder on the existing Hackchi2 folder I already have on my desktop? Do I have to overwrite everything?

Ok I justupdated Hackchi2 to the newest release and now Avast don't want me access it... :/

Windows says I don't have the rights to do so...

Good thing I just copied the old one and I guess I'll stick with it for a while...

edit : good, I forced executed it. I the extra space mod worth it? Is it safe?

The update seems to have broken the controller reset function. It's activated in the options but it doesn't work.

It worked as intended in the previous version.

Edit: As asked before, I was under the impression that save stated don't work with retroarch, however it seems to work just fine. How come?

Any chance of also adding X/Y turbo if it hasn't already?

That's what I thought but I was hoping it would still be somewhere in his user data.

I found a NTSC patch for Super Probotector, so I now I can play both versions of Contra 3 on the SNES mini.

Both? The JP version is very different from the US, so I'd say there are 3 versions.

spoilered for length from a wiki - edit, which doesnt work never mind.

The Japanese version is considerably easier than its overseas releases.

-The main ending sequence can be viewed in all difficulty modes. However, on the Easy setting, a message is displayed that indicates a true final boss is fought on higher difficulty settings, and to try the Normal setting; this message replaces the montage of images. On the Normal setting, an abridged version of the message is displayed, suggesting to try the Hard setting; the message is placed at the bottom of the screen in order to display the image montage.

In the overseas counterparts, none of the Easy and Normal settings hint at the true final boss, and instead just suggest to try the next higher difficulty setting. The ”Try Normal Mode" (or Hard Mode) line is replaced simply by ”Push Start Key". The Normal mode features an animated starry background.

-The true final boss is also fought in Normal mode.

-The game provides infinite continues.

-There are 3 cheat codes: 30 lives, level select and a sound test menu.

-During gameplay, the lives counter indicates how many lives the players actually have, as opposed how many there are in reserve. Therefore, for example, having 7 lives will display 7, whereas it will display 6 in the overseas localizations.

-The intro sequence features Japanese text for the characters' dialog; their lines are also more explicit and aggressive in tone than in the overseas counterparts.

-The title screen's appearance onto the screen is simpler, using a fade-in effect; however, the title screen itself is animated, featuring flames in the Japanese text.

-The text atop the screen during the starting position selection on the overhead stages is in Japanese, and uses a different font and styling.

-The images in the montage in the ending, referencing previous Contra games, include dates indicating the time those events took place. Strangely, these dates were removed in the overseas counterparts, instead of adjusting them to the altered timeline.

-In the end credits, FC is listed, whereas NES is listed in the overseas counterparts. The bottom of the Special Thanks list states Very Thanks, whereas the overseas counterparts state Many Thanks.

-When the player celebrates with the crowd at the end, the presence of a couple of foreground elements is difficulty-dependent. On the Normal setting, a kid runs back and forth near the player; on the Hard setting, a Man-Faced Mutt is also added.

-The message during the aforementioned celebration scene states
All Stage Clear

It does for me, and on one of two systems, it doesn't recognize the controller the first time it's powered on after syncing games. The other one I'm setting up doesn't do it.

Mine takes a few seconds to load, but usually kicks in right around when the drumtrack hits on my current BGM option, and it fits so well I just can't be upset.

yeah it does, the old hack didn't cause the delay. it's not the end of the world but it is annoying.

Interesting, glad I'm not the only one. I haven't seen anyone mention this before though, so I wonder if this has something to do with the latest release.

MercuryLS3: by old hack, do you mean an earlier version such as Hakchi 2.20? It doesn't bother me all that much since it's either a slight delay or no extra games. But it might be worthwhile to report it as a bug if it didn't happen before.
