So am I the only one who thought both Halo 2 and Half Life 2 are fantastic games?

Where am I getting the second copy from? Don't tell me you'd give me your personal copy as well...no need for that. Between that and posting this amateur and hypocritical "Can't we all just get along?" topic on GAF, I'm really starting to get a little concerned for your mental health.

Try to keep on topic of Halo2/HL2 instead of trolling my thread thx. :D

You brought Killzone into it, Bob, not me. Now look what happened? Others are talking about it - you've trolled your own thread! :lol

Halo 2's single player sucks

Half Life 2's single player rocks

Halo 2's multiplayer rocks

Half Life 2's Multiplayer....

Counter Strike Sucks

um single player halo2 most can agree is great except that its a bit short. It's great fun unless you play on baby modes. Heroic/Legendary is tasty.

The level with MasterChief when the first Peril music starts... is sooo open ended. The opening scene I mean. The first area. I been there for a short bit on legendary. The AI is trully exceptional at times. Such a rush. Battles feel very significant on higher difficulty settings.

Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one

Mrbob :-
THEY ARE BOTH AWESOME GAMES, stop bitching. Yikes.

Get the fuck out of here! :D If everyone concurred and agreed and there wasn't any bitchin I'd probably not visit GAF as much as I do. If at all :D

So much entertainment value.

:lol :lol :lol

People who call Counter-Strike crap have never played a coordinated 5v5 -- fact.

well coordinated 5 vs 5 is fun any game, what is special about CS that makes it better than other games with coordinated 5 vs 5? unbalanced weapons and map design? shitty hostage AI?

Unbalanced weapons? Like you can't defeat rifles with smg's? Haha. Unbalanced maps, sure, if you play the cs_ maps or de_dust. I'm not up to date on CS:Source, so I don't know which de_ maps are in just yet. Most of the ones used for competitive play in 1.6 like dust2, inferno, train, nuke, and cpl_mill are very well balanced. Hostage AI hasn't been important to me the last 3 years of CS play. What makes CS better? Smoothness, customizability, quick gameplay, accuracy, balance of skill and strategy, massive community, basis in reality. I'm betting all the haters in here are noobs that have only played a few public games, and probably aren't very highly skilled. It takes a lot more skill to use an AK47 in CS than spray someone with plasma rifle fire and unload an smg. Part of the appeal of both I guess.

Is this guy for real? :lol

CS sucks. Terrorists can not kill people, the will get kicked. Umm, That is what terrorists do. They be like, 'you come any closer I will blow his fucking head off!', the CT moves in. The terrosist kills a hostage, 'I told you to keep your distance motherfuker!'.

There is more or less only one bad flood level, and that's the one in the lab. Other than that they are more or less absent and the game actually gets better as you progress and the arbiter + snow level + flood = the best level I have played in halo 2.

CS is great, the community sucks ass most of the time.

Weapons are balanced in the right way, don't bitch about the fact someone is (way) better than you at it.

I guess the same sort of people who constantly bitch over XBL about how high they are or those that sit ans try to snipe 99% of the match. (search for MAF and XBL if you don't know what I mean)

Until Valve cuts the Steam demand out of playing/authenticating Half-Life 2, I'm not going to even be playing the game so Halo 2 wins by default.
OH NOES my game tries to talk to the internets!

edit: avoiding one of the best games of all time because you don't agree with its admittedly crappy copy protection scheme is petty, but hey, it's your computer.

Half-Life 2 wins for me. It might be the greatest singleplayer game I've played.

I'd rather play Halo 2's multiplayer than CS:S, though. Until the mods start pouring in. At that point, they won't even be comparable.

i think that it's all in what you look for in a game. halo 2 is a bit more solid in its combat AI, but pales in the immersion factor. i mean, it's not even close. every half-life chapter has a wildly different feel/theme, each well-executed. i've said it before, but i can't think of anything in halo that even approaches the nova prospekt sequence.

halo 2 often feels like a corridor shooter with a few incredible set pieces thrown in. if it wasn't for the nicely unpredictable AI & legitimate difficulty settings (as opposed to hl2's simple damage modification,) i doubt i'd want to play it again. anyway, i'm a much bigger fan of the multiplayer mode.

This is pretty much dead on. Halo 2 really felt like a corridor shooter with a few well done sequences. But Half Life /2, damn it's an immersive experiance. Each person really felt like an individual.

Granted the enemy AI was better in Halo 2, but from what I can tell, the friendly NPC was solid in HL2. The short time you do have a squad under your command, the AI is fantastic. The members will always get out of your way, not to mention APOLOGIZING for being in the way. The medic will always give you a health pack when you need it and the squad gives nice reminders along the way, "You better reload Dr. Freeman." Heck even the antlions get out of your way.

Man, Nova Prospekt, that was great. Ravenholm was just as good. City 17 was epic when you put the several parts of it together. Hl2's biggest weak point where the boat and buggy missions that went on for too long.

Saying that you can't play the two and say that Half Life 2 hasn't raised the bar to a level that is new.

Halo 2 took the nice formula that Halo made and polished it a little more, the real game is in the multiplayer.

Half-Life 2 manages to set a new level for just about... everything in regards to a FPS single player game.

Finished Halo 2 over the past weekend and it sure as fuck is not worthy of GOTY. The amount of praise this game got by the press is retarded. They fell for their own bullshit and were obligated to "please" the fanbase or risk losing a significant portion of their own readerbase.

The game shipped unfinished so how in the fuck can it get "Game Of The Year" nominations? I repeat: "THE GAME SHIPPED UNFINISHED"!!! Not sure this qualifies as a spoiler but just in case.

It's painfully obvious based off the singleplayer game that Bungie was pressured to get something out the door this year because it would've been stupid for MS to let slip such a major release till next year for their old console while at the same time they're trying to generate hype for their new machine. It's an obvious tactic that Halo 3 will likely be a launch title (or atleast that's the target) to help get the Xbox2 off to a good solid start. It'd be foolish for MS to pass up such a golden opportunity to take advantage of this.

I'm sure that this has probably been bitched about 100x before but I haven't been keeping up on the Halo 2 threads and this was the 1st one I came across.

Would you rather I bitched about it after I paid for it? That seems hypocritical. So in hopes that Steam goes away someday, I'm not giving Valve or VUG a cent until they remove that requirement.

Are you really going to be happy when every publisher decides to run their own version of Steam? Do you really want twenty daemons running in your system tray and to report in to mother everytime you want to play your SINGLE PLAYER game?

No, it's fucking lame actually. You tell 'em, GamerDad.

Well I don't think you could really consider the ending of both Halo 2 and Half Life 2 satisfactory. The way both games end you could call them both out on leaving gamers hanging. If you want to play a game with a satisfactory ending, buy Metal Gear Solid 3. Best finish ever to a game? I think so. The payoff for putting in so much time playing the game is huge. The ending is amazing. I don't want to say anything else to spoil it but, just wow.

As for Steam, I'm sure VUG wouldn't mind seeing it dissolved. Hopefully Valve offers a patch soon to let people play the game offline. But after all the problems people have with CD copy protection is this the route you want to go?

yes, steam is invasive, but the alternative is worse. due to a horrible copy protection scheme, i was was unable to play pirates for hours. if i hadn't found a sneaky workaround, i *still* would be locked out simply because securom doesn't like my dvd drive.

just so you know, you only have to authenticate half-life 2 once. afterwards, you can completely disconnect steam from the internet with no ill effect.

edit: if your sense of outrage over an admittedly invasive launcher is enough to keep you from playing one of the best games in the last 5 years, more power to you.

And it is this exact reason why I have a problem with Valve and their "big brother" tactic. They know how successful HL2 will be and are taking full advantage of this to bully Steam onto otherwise unwilling computers. BTW, Steam isn't going to prevent me from doing anything. Either I'll a) resort to "other" means to curve my HL2 apetite or, if my will is strong enough, b) wait till the inevitable console port.

I'm willing to bet you that as a result of HL2 there'll be hundreds of thousands of PCs out there with forced Steam installations on them with no intentions of being used other than to "authenticate" Valve's precious game but yet will allow Valve full exposure to your harddrive content, no matter how sensitive or personal it may be.

all it has access to is your steam directory. you can simply turn off automatic updates if that bothers you so much.

Then explain to me how Valve can tell if any given PC has an illegal copy of HL2 on it.
