So Blizz just gated the 1st Diablo 4 xpac behind the 2nd one...

Yeah it really seems like the WoW expansion model, and they said D4 is a 10 year game, so new expansions are probably going to be the same and include all the previous ones.

Wasnt it the same for wow. If i buy the newest expansion i get everything in between as well.
Yeah, that's a model they've been using since around the 3rd or 4th expansion I think.

But it's an MMO, so it's a different echo system. There is only one expansion for sale ever. So it's either you buy the expansion or you don't. And I'm not sure how much there even is without buying anything. With Diablo IV you still have to buy the base game, right? I don't even think that is the case with WoW anymore. Either way, WoW is a great example of a game that tries to get your money by any means possible.

I've held back so far from buying the first one, can easily wait another year or so and buy the double pack on discount, lol.

Like some other posters mentioned. Removing the option to purchase the previous expansion on its own is still making it more expensive (in the short term).
Not really, because even if you just want the old expansion, you're getting the new one as well and all the seasonal content that's exclusive to it for the same price the old expansion launched.

Probably mid to end of next year unfortunately. I'm not paying for an early access game.
At least the PoE2 developers are honest. Just because it doesn't say early access next to Diablo 4 doesn't mean we aren't all Blizzards test dummies while they are still figuring out how to make a good game. They've already completely reworked the game three times and are doing it again in the next year. I don't see how PoE2 being a third the cost for a significantly better product is a bad thing, early access label or not.

Games for pretty fun, I'm putting more time in. This isn't exactly outrage for me, if you want to play expansion, that will be $40 and you get all that have been released.

You want to wait, wait. You could get 2 expansions for $10 if you time it right. But you don't want to wait, so pay the price. Not $20 for a class, but $40 for content and 2 classes.

They're planning to sell a lot of expansions. 4 years down the line should you really have to buy 5 expansions at once?

Oof. That's a look alright.

What I wished I had done differently instead of buying Diablo 4 at launch to do seasons with a friend is waited a few years for the prices to come down and expansions to all be released, then play it through on hardcore and treat it like a single player game.

Trying to rush to max level for seasons sucked all the fun out of it for me. Became like a job where I had to perform instead of enjoying the journey and taking my time.

I don't know why this is a surprise. Its a seasonal game anymore. They do the same thing with WOW. You buy the current expansion and get access to the previous ones.

Yes, wow been doing that since 2018. Im not sure what the outrage is? It would have been scummy if they didn't bundle the previous expansion in and had you pay serperate for each one.

Dirty bastards. They also just announced this expansion and that it includes the previous expansion, right after running a sale on the previous expansion. Just greedy bastards.
