Funnily enough the same thing happened in Family Matters. The goody two shoesness of that show bothered me more than Doug though. Yeah both accounts that shit was plain dumb.

id hook up with a girl with a unibrow who always had monologues with herself about love. i always felt bad for her because her dad's business was going to go out of business since it was Bob's Beepers. Did it go out of business during the show?


i think arnold went out with phoebe or something, right?

How were they gonna spin him falling for her? I mean at least with Doug Patty was on friendly terms with him but Helga was downright abusive.

Hmmm... I don't even remember how I interpreted that when I was a kid. I remember the finales for Wonder Years and Doogie Howser like they were yesterday and I remember them going in the barn but I was an innocent 13-year-old kid so I guess I thought they just made out... or maybe I secretly hoped he got some. It's been 22 years. But rethinking it now as an adult makes it seem more dirty. These aren't thoughts I should be thinking right now.

I do remember being really disappointed, even as a kid, that they never got together and ended up happily ever after and shocked and saddened that his dad died 2 years later from a heart attack. That finale did hit me hard as a 13-year-old kid. It really changed my expectations of the fairy tale ending I thought real-life had before then.

Back to Doug, I never watched any of the Disney/ABC years. When it left Nickelodeon it might as well have been cancelled because I didn't understand the concept of following TV shows to other networks at the time. Same reason I never saw the last seasons of Sabrina the Teenage Witch or Family Matters. (Until years later in reruns on ABC Family when I got really pissed off at what they did to Myra and how they ended the show.)

Of course fast-forward to today, I'll happily follow a show whether it goes from NBC to ABC or NBC to Yahoo! as long as its something I love.
 
i watched the 90s are all that a few years ago with some friends, and when doug was airing, it was perfect mst3k material for us. one thing that's kinda subtle in the last half of the nickelodeon episodes is that patti is shown to actually like doug. it's super obvious in the episode where she asks to exclusively hang out with him on the weekend, in front of everyone at school. but she also does shit like attend his stupid awful magic show in which there is no one else there.

and in the meantime doug's all, 'man i wish patti liked me'

Haven't seen it yet but I've seen and heard her in other things and her voice I thought was distinctive enough to always notice.

Lastly, some enterprising individual out there redubbed the opening of Season 4's Doug & Patti Sittin' in a Tree to replace Patti's lines with Yoga's from Episode 12 of Orange in the New Black where she's confiding in Janae Watson about her unintended manslaughter of an 8-year-old boy.
