So, has videogames ever interfered with your work/schooling?

when i was a kid, my parents only let me play videogames on the weekends, so it wasn't a problem back then. Nowadays, i don't play games enough for it to interfere.

Of course it does. The day after a good game comes out I'm usually a zombie at work from lack of sleep.

Good Gaming > Sleep

All the time.

Has anyone heard of the "one more turn" syndrome when you play turn based games like Civilization?

Battlefield 2 completely screwed me over with my finals. The REAL problem is GAF however.

The second I'm done I'm heading back to Battlefield 2 and Kirby.

Forza owns my soul.

I was playing on live the other day and this guy I was racing with was talking about his friend who recently got devorced becuase he wouldnt stop racing on Live. I turned off the xbox right then and there but I was right back on the next day. :/

FFX and FFXI both interfered with my work severely.
And games in general played a pretty big part in me only getting a 2-1 for my degree :)

Aside from a game or two or Tetris before I go to bed, I usually refrain from playing videogames until a large block of free time comes along, allowing me to achieve complete immersion in the game for 6 - 7 hours straight. If I'm really, really into the game, I'll usually break my own rules, and let it creep into my normal weekday schedule, but otherwise, gaming occurs on the weekends and during chunks of free time that occasionally pop up.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist who can get overly competitive, so I'm never gonna tough an MMORPG if I can help it, because I know it'll devour my soul and social life in one quick gulp. Games requiring a lot of strategy often interrupt my normal dreams as I sleep, so too much gaming, MMORPG or otherwise, isn't a good thing.

Games are the new illegal drugs of our generation. Society just hasn't figured it out yet. I mean common, you can say TV is just as addictive, but most ppl can't watch tv all day everyday and feel like they accomplished something. In games they can.

I wouldn't be surprised if "gaming AA" became as standard as "Alcoholics Anonymous" 10+ years from now.

i took aprox. 6 days off back in school for ff7 and 8

i took about the same time off for ocarina of time

and a few days ago i took some days off work to get some older games finished (chrono cross, wind waker, mp2 echoes.

so id say yes :D

The question is wrong, let me fix it for you:

Has work/school ever interfered with videogames?

In my case, yes, sometimes, but just a little ;)

Hahaha, funny this thread has come up.
I'm in the middle of exams at the moment and I'm spending FAR more time playing the Meteos demo and BF2 than revising for exams, and I really need to catch up on a lot of stuff for them next week, otherwise I will fail.

I took a week off when I imported RE4. First time I did that in a while.

Right now I should be revising for exams, but it's GAF that poses the biggest roadblock.

I failed all but one of my classes in my second to last year of high school, partly because of videogames. :lol

Of course it does. In fact, at this moment I am completely exhausted because I refused to go to bed until my mage in WoW leveled up to 33. Morning guy hates night guy.

I took a week off work to play GTA:SA. Then I broke my arm the week before my time off.

Also, I'm more than capable of taking days off school through pure laziness. While gaming helps, I can't say I've ever had a specific moment where I skipped specifically to play a certain game, more to sit on my ass and not go to school.

Playing Diablo 2 didn't have disastrous consequences for me, but the months of my life that I spent with it are kind of a blur.

I've skipped class a few times to pick up a game or console, but it doesn't really interfere with my schooling. If I have a lot of homework I won't be picking up that Xbox controller as often if at all. Simple as that. I have self control.

Ultima Online - called in to work / skipped class repeatedly for this game

CounterStrike -
"ahh it's 10pm I think ill blow off some steam before I start on my C++ program due tomorrow"
*3am rolls around, 100 matches later*
"fuck..."

other games that have fucked me over:
Warcraft 3
City of Heroes
Starcraft
Diablo 2
GTA3
Quake

I would never take a day off work to play a game (because it affects the crew I'm working with that night). I do have a co-worker who's openly admitted to missing days cause he was playing Shin Segami whateverthefuckit'scalled and that pissed me off. If no one around you is affected when you're out, then I would do it, but in my place of work, if someone is out, someone who has the day off must come in to replace them.

Sometimes, If ever I have a busy day, I always try and get in an hour or so of gaming before I go to sleep, but sometimes I just get so into it that I don't realize what time it is and I end up shutting the game 3 hours before I need to get up. If I'm not terribly involved with something later on that morning I'm like the walking dead.

Though the problem gets worse when I fall asleep when i get home, only to repeat the procees again becuase I've wasted away the afternoon.....

Halo 2 has taken some sleep time away. I just tell myself sometimes "You gotta wake up at 8 tomorrow. It's fucking 3 already, damnit...ah what the hell, you're having fun now."

I used to game about (on average) 2-3 hours most days when I was in my early teens. 1-2 hours in my late teens and less than half hour per day (again on average) in my twenties. I don't like where this is heading :)

Nowadays, I at least try out most of the games I'm interested in and I buy the AAA games (Ninja Gaiden, Halo, RE4, etc.).
