So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

So, I'm starting to have some more friends inquiring as to where they can find a Switch after hearing me endlessly praise BotW. Of course, I have no freaking idea where they can buy one right now, as I have yet to see one in a single store. I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we always seem to be supply starved for these sorts of things.

Anyone have any idea when new shipments might be going out or super secret retailers to look at when Switch hunting?

My wife came home from "grocery shopping" last night with a surprise Switch for me. She randomly called Target and they had ONE in stock. I had already come to terms with not playing Zelda for weeks.

Does your wife have a sister or cousin?
How does a man be blessed with such spouse?

Launch day, I went in to my local game store to trade in my PS3 and 3DS for credit toward my Switch. I asked if they had any in stock, but as I figured, there were none. They told me that all their shipments come in Mondays and Thursdays by 3pm though, so Monday I called at 2:55. I asked if they had any and the guy gave a casual and positive "yep". Caught off guard, I asked if they can hold one or if it's first come first serve and he said they can't hold them. All the while I'm racing to get my shoes on and grab my keys. I say "okay cool. thanks, bye", and get out the door to make the 25 minute drive there. When I arrive, there's nobody near the store. I walk in, they ask if they can help me with anything and I say I'm there to buy a Switch, he turns around into this giant wood box behind the counter, reaches pretty far in, and pulls one out for me. I got it with a $20 eShop card so I could get Snipperclips and play that with my girlfriend, and earlier in the day I ordered Zelda on Amazon for the discount they offer on new games, and it'll be coming tomorrow.

I was really surprised at how many they must have sold in the short amount of time since they arrived. I figured after the day one rush, there would be much less demand until MK8D came out, but I'm glad to see it's still selling out pretty well.

I just wish Brickseek would report semi accurate stock numbers for Walmart stores :(. Seeing 6 listed as being at my local Walmart is such a tease when they definitely don't have any. But then again as soon as I see a number shift my ass is going straight there.

Keep in mind stores holding stock for Sunday will show as having stock.

I worked in retail for years, including gaming, but never was in a situation where stock was held for anything other than release dates. Otherwise the goal was to sell as quickly as we could once we got stock in. Can someone explain how it usually works in terms of when on Sunday they start allowing sales? Is it 12:01 or more like 6am or does it just vary by store?

So this weekend maybe sounds like it will be possible to get a hold of a system in some form. My patience will be tested as some of the ebay listings are starting to get the best of me.

I wouldn't have bought one if not for my wife telling me to buy one.

We had a day off work and I only wanted a carry case so we went to TRU where they had 15, we were #10 in line. Went inside and didn't see any good case so we have up our ticket. Lucky whoever came late to find a switch available

Im in the same situation....

No luck at all. :(

No retailers can give me an ETA on stock either.

When I worked at Toys R Us years ago we would hold stuff for the ad. Ads are usually ready two weeks or so prior to them going out, so on something like this we would be told how many to have in stock for upcoming ads. When Sunday came around we were able to sell whatever we had in stock as soon as we opened.

Not sure about online.

Checking Prime now for any restocks in Chicago is driving me fucking batty.

Been kicking myself for somehow not getting that Target restock online when I had the chance.

Welp... Gave up on the switch hunt due to my salt levels getting too high. Noticed the PS4 Pro started becoming scarce and bought one before it sold out too.

I had a Switch preorder with Bestbuy that was in limbo, I couldn't access the order online to cancel it, everytime I tried to look up my order the bestbuy website said it couldn't find the order. So I just went got Zelda on Wii U and decided to pass on the Switch until winter. I just checked my email and looks like the order went through somehow, my card is charged and it's scheduled to be delivered on Thursday.

I really don't know if I am going to keep it or not, I already am very happy with the Wii U version of Zelda, so I'll have a Switch with no games. I guess it will be nice just to have the damn thing in my possession lol.

Found a local selling for 375 what do Gafamliy.

I'd wait until a reputable store has them in stock. I got one at launch, but it had the wifi issue. It doesn't seem to be a widespread problem, but I wouldn't want to test my luck and get something that I'd have trouble returning in some capacity.

this is sooooooooo annoying. I have a credit of $75 on Amazon so I have to get my Switch from there.

Every morning I check for restock, all I see is hundreds and hundreds of Switch's available from scalpers! $450 Brand new Factory Sealed!!!

I just wanna play some f'n Zelda at work God. Please?

I need to get a pro controller from Gamestop, since I got a fair amount of credit to burn there. Any news on when they'll be getting some?

I can confirm (as a customer, not an employee) that the same thing happens at Best Buy. I went in to buy a game on release day years ago and the Blue Shirt went into the back to look for the game and came out saying the manager was holding it for the weekend ad.

I was polite to the Blue Shirt (not his fault) but I never bought another game at Best Buy.

I'm in the states for the week, in Colorado, and there's absolutely no switch consoles anywhere; there's tons of Zelda BoTW though, which is weird to see, why'd they send so many copies if it wasnt 1:1 with the consoles at least?

So where should we be checking for stock? Just walk into Best Buy, Walmart, and Target? Don't trust any online shit?
Honestly, at this point I'm waiting on it to get in stock online somewhere. I don't have the patience to be constantly calling and checking local stores. Since release, it's been in stock online via hhgregg, Amazon Prime Now, and Target. I expect them to keep popping up periodically. On Friday I'll have the money in the bank for the Switch and I'll pull the trigger on the first store that accepts an online order.

I had to drive 40minutes to the nearest Target to get mine on Monday. I got there around 9 (opened at 7) and they had 7 left, all neons. Saw one guy walking out with one while another guy and I were purchasing ours.

Checking online the same store (Target in Olympia, WA) has grays in stock at the moment.

Readily available where I am in Singapore. Heck, I could just pop by over the shop and get one with Zelda at any time. Doesn't even seem like it's going to run out any time soon.

Could be the price that's turning people off, it's marked up in the region to at least around 70 bucks above what the US has.

Why not use the credit for Zelda( or game of choice), or a pro controller( or accessory of choice), and get the Switch unit elsewhere?

Are extra docks for sale yet? I didn't expect to need one so soon but after letting co-workers try it out I think I'm ready for one.

Still absolutely nothing in GA. I looked into some stores about an hour outside Atlanta and still nothing. I'm going to do more searching today at work, trying to look for rural walmarts an shit...
