So how bad is the Switch stock situation?

Looks like stock is starting to catch up slowly based on this thread. Hopefully they have enough stock to keep on shelves when Mario Kart hits.

Definitely not yet. I went around to several stores today and no one had them. The closest I got was apparently that they only sold out a hour before I got there.

I bought three today, as I posted earlier... if there had been anyone else looking to buy one, I wouldn't have even considered buying what they would have otherwise had a chance at.

I wouldn't be angry at all had the guy been buying it for his son. I would have been frustrated, but him lying to scalp it was unacceptable. I wouldn't deny a kid an opportunity to feel the same joy I did on Christmas morning with the n64. I think what you did was fine. The experience would have dulled for the kids to have to share.

Edit: I think I'm going insane, or I'm not understanding how Walmart works. I've been refreshing their site because they've randomly gotten bundles in all night. A single neon unbundled went up on their website for 450 bucks. Is Walmart just scalping online directly now?

If you have a Meijer store nearby, supposedly each store received stock on the order of 10+ units earlier this week. They're selling them beginning today to coincide with an ad. I'll report back what I find!

You 100% sure they're "shipped and sold" by Walmart? Walmart's web site works just like Amazon: third-party flippers galore.

They had about 10 units to start with at my store this morning 9 gray 1 neon. The consoles were locked in a cabinet behind the electronics counter - not out for display.

Michigan family called the Wixom one and they had one. Goddamn Amazon credit.

Was surprised to find 6 Switches in stock at a local Walmart today. Busy Saturday and they were just sitting there...

Yeah... at least according to istocknow, a whole bunch of Switches showed up at Walmarts and Targets around me. So I might check by some today when I'm out.

Now I just have to figure out whether I want to really hold out for a Neon or whether I'll settle for a Gray...

The Walmart I was at had both. If I didn't already have one I would have grabbed a Neon in a heartbeat.

A continued best of luck to everyone still searching!

That's pretty fucked up of the Walmart employee to sell him two. I imagine they knew you were also waiting to get one? I'd have reported them to a manager in that case. Super fucked up.

This is why they need to only allow one per customer. I don't know how they could prevent someone coming back and buying another right away though.

They should not allow 3 systems to be sold to one person at once, not when demand is so high right now. I'd rather see people get stuck with the unit and not be able to return it. Yes I am that mean because I cannot stand scalpers who take advantage of demand.

I broke down and said screw it. Looked on iStock and went to a Walmart nearish me. I called, they had 3 gray and a color. I got there and they only had one left. The color! I was surprised. What was funny is there were people looking at in the case, multiple parties pondering getting it. I went straight to the desk before going to the case. I got lucky! Going to do as suggested and pay my Amazon cc with the points which is a great idea.

Oh I got Zelda too.

Edit: Massive typo fixing. Damn phone post.

Well, I showed up at a different Walmart today, waited in line with 5 other people for about an hour until the "managers gave them permission" to open the shipping room, only for them to claim they lost their shipment. Amazing.

I'm only lightly searching around Phoenix/Scottsdale with no luck so far. I call Walmart twice a week and stop by the electric section of Target if I need to go there to pick up other items. InStockNow hasn't been accurate for me or the employees don't know they have some in stock when I ask.

I'm not worried so far but I hope I can find a Neon one before Mario Kart releases.

If you are willing to slum in the southwest valley then the Tolleson/Avondale area is a good place to find just about everything except a pro controller.

I'm surprised this console is still hard to get. Is it just that demanded or is Nintendo not producing that many? Was the WiiU the same at this point?

I was at La Fnac today in France, I discussed with a manager: there's a delay of 3 weeks to get a Switch for anyone ordering one this Sunday. He said the selling pace is phenomenal. Sounds good.

Yeah I think Wii U was similar in terms of availability trickling through - in the UK at least.

Wasn't it the case that the switch has outsold Wii and Wii U numbers at this point, so Nintendo has done well to get a decent enough number into circulation but also pleased themselves by having a sell out item as they absolutely love.

Side note. I wonder how much their shareholders kick off about every one of Nintendo's products being way under produced.

did you ask him to compare Switch's and WiiU's frist month performances?

In US the WiiU was readily available soon after launch. You had photos of both g piles of unsold units on GAF

Ugh. Was able to snag one at 6am this morning, but it's plagued with problems. Left JoyCon disconnects and doesn't receive all inputs somewhat frequently, even when 10 feet from dock. Was getting random errors that didn't let me do system update or pair the Parental Controls app. Finally got those to work, but the JoyCon is still an issue. There is also a tiny mark to the left of the screen. Plus the dock fails the penny test.

I thought Nintendo addressed the JoyCon in manufacturing already. This is new stock.

Worst part is, I put a screen protector on before I even turned on the system.

Ah well, time to take it back. Doubt they'll have any to exchange though. :(

I bought a backup on Amazon arriving tomorrow, so I suppose it will all be OK haha.

Little hard to judge Wii U. Its 2nd month was December which by virtue of the holiday season meant it was still boosted. By January though it was obvious Wii U was in trouble we started getting stories of Mass returns by Scalpers to the point it was resulting in negative numbers. 5 months after launch Wii U was only selling around 50,000 units worldwide a month.

Before I take it back, does anyone want to buy it at retail + tax + shipping? Taking it back will probably result in it being out of circulation for several weeks, but maybe somebody here who plans to play mostly in handheld mode can get some use out of it.

I'll ship out tomorrow if there's any interest. I'm located in the Midwest.

You could pick up a Wii U within a couple of weeks in the UK in most places. The only SKU which took a while to restock was the Zombi U bundle

It might not be. Retailers that were holding pre-ordered units still (like Walmart) released those units for anyone to buy just friday/yesterday/today. So it sounds like you may have a launch unit. If you send it to Nintendo though apparently they get the joycon back to you fixed pretty fast.

I think they are already producing quite a few, they managed to sell through most of their 90k something shipment in Japan last week, which is a quite high number of units for Japan alone. We can only assume their output is roughly 1.33 million units a month worldwide(they want to produce 16 million a year). That is not that much for the kind of demand the system has right now.

I can meanwhile confirm that it is still sold out everywhere here in Europe > Austria and it's not looking much better neighboring countries either from what I've heard. I can't get one online anywhere, UK seems to be sold out too, I think Nintendo highly underestimated the demand for the system. On Ebay the unit alone is sold for ~400 Euro quite regularly, scalpers seem to be hard at work around here >_>

It's not that bad though, Zelda won't get worse over time, in fact it get's better with patches it seems. Also I have Persona 5 on its way to my location and it should arrive soon :)

The actual launch shipment in Europe was higher than that of other systems at launch. But since, the shipments have been ridiculously low. It seems as if they are repeating what they've done with the NES Mini, but now on a big scale.

It takes time to ramp up production and Nintendo seemingly thought that 2mio systems are enough for the first four weeks.

Sorry, I should have stated that I was talking about the UK. From another post above it seems stock was better for the WiiU than the switch in the UK, in that it was sold out initially but came into stock a few weeks later.

Not a good idea. MARIO Kart is launching by end of April...

Even with limited new game announcements it does look like Nintendo has executed well in keeping momentum going forward this year. Spacing key titles like Mario Kart, Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey will be big enough games to look forward to. If hardware sales continue to do well for the foreseebale future then the 3rd party publishers will help them beyond 2017.

I can only imagine the scarcity of stock would have hurt them much more if they did a more traditional Fall release. Having stock issues in April is not a bad place to be.

I found one at a Wal-Mart in town for my friend last night. They had them in the back and the stock was showing on iStockNow. First store I went to wouldn't check for stock in the back. Second one was happy to do so. They had 5 Gray and 2 Neon in stock.

Yeah, it's just not worth the wait for Nintendo to fix when I have one from Amazon coming tomorrow. This one isn't from preorder stock though, because the store didn't do preorders. I guess they could have held back some of their launch stock for the Sunday ad though.

After the sale, the manager showed up and said they don't sell more than 1 per customer per visit. Again, if there were others sitting there waiting for one, I wouldn't have bought them all out.

It seems they can produce 1 million a month. They will be between 3-4 millions by the time Mario Kart Deluxe releases. 5 millions by Arms. 6-7 millions by Spla2oon. After that, it's harder to say. But from reactions I see in my office or with my friends, Nintendo has a tremendous hit in their hands. People atound me buy Switchs. Knowing I'm in France, where Nintendo usually performs better.

Even if they are producing 1 million a month, it would be too costly to ship them in small batches directly from the production center in China. Thus it takes some time till new shipments arrive as they'll need to bundle systems into batches first.

4 million units in people's hands by the time MK8 launches could be overly optimistic given the current shipments. I'll let you know as much as that for April no big shipments are expected at the biggest German electronics retail group. And looking at the Japanese sales, shipments are indeed a major issue.

If they had enough units on shelves, 4 mio seem feasible though. Imo Mario Kart is a much bigger seller than Zelda.

I'm traveling to Chicago the following week and I already have a Switch. I was planning on getting some accesories there, like the Pro controller, maybe some extra Joycons and a wall charger. Can I just walk into a GameStop or supermarket and grab these or should I consider online ordering?

I'd just check online to see if what you're looking for is available in stock at the Gamestop you're looking to check out? If not, I'd order online if you know that way you'll get it before you travel.

No at all, PS4 at launch was suplly constrained and the shipment was way higher with plenty of restock, unless you're talking about nintendo consoles.

Sony had PS4 being produced from the get go at a higher rate. Nintendo adjusted production but even most analysts agree they might have been able to get out an extra half a million units at most before March 31st.

I do not blame Nintendo really. Lets remember after the Wii U launch there was a period in UK etc. where Sales actually went into the Negatives for trackers due to all the returned units. Its honestly better to be behind a few months on production and adjust as needed than to have a gluttonous amount of stock and find no demand.

I think we're saying the same thing. Still, the day 1 shipment in a number of European countries was higher for Switch than for PS4.

Took the Switch back, and they had two left so I exchanged it. This one has the same issues with the left JoyCon. What the hell Nintendo?!

Just send it in. It's a service they're offering to repair them for free so why not take advantage of it? Yeah it shouldn't have happened but it's widely known the units that were already produced have a decent chance of having this problem and the turnaround on the repair is extremely minimal.
