The GED was the easiest test I've ever had to take and I finally have my High School equivalency.
I wish I had done this a long time ago, but foresight isn't my forte.

GED SCORES
Math - 99%
Reading - 99%
Writing - 99%
Social Studies - 98%
Science - 90%

I have a score of 3650 Total.
This is how it matches up with High School Class Rank.

Top 1% -- 3440
Top 5% -- 3230
Top 10% - 3100
Top 25% - 2850
Top 33% - 2700
Top 50% - 2510
Top 67% - 2310
Top 70% - 2260

This is a happy day. :)

GEDs suck compared to diplomas, at least that's what colleges have said. Still, nice scores. :)

It all depends on the scores, from what I've heard from local State Colleges.
I'd be more likely to get admitted to Sam Houston State than someone in the top 30% at my High School.

I'm just going to a local Junior College for a year and I'll use those grades as a platform to jump to a 4 year school.

huh?
why did you get kicked out of highschool?

My senior year my counselor had me marked down for 2 classes 3rd period. Only one of those classes made it to my schedule.
I was called in a couple months later and was met with 60 absenses and a zero tolerance policy that said they had to kick me out.

All this time, I thought olimario wasn't smart enough to be a high school graduate.

Seems I was right.

This is equivelent. Hell, it's more than with my scores.

We appealed to the school district and fought it as much as we could, but in the end it was seen as my mistake for not going to the counselor to make sure my schedule was right, even though I had no clue there was a problem.

Zero Tolerance is the worst thing to happen to schools. They look at the end result and dismiss everything leading up to it.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
That's the most fucked up zero tolerence story I've ever heard. I would have sued the fucking school.

Wait, did you even know about the mistake during the semester?

The same day I found out about the mistake I was kicked out of school. That's how fucked up it is. And out of the 2 classes I had 3rd period I was going to the one I needed to graduate, not the elective.

WHAT? I can't even comprehend how they could come to the decision to kick you out for that. Please tell me you tried to sue the fucking school. I would have sicked a fucking team of lawyers on their asses.

What zero-tolerance policy? Three years ago, I skipped a class I knew I had for two and a half weeks(11 total class days) and once the admins caught on, all they did was drop the stupid class from my schedule. They asked me why I was skipping the class, and I told them it was a worthless class that imo, shouldn't have to be taken. No punishment of any kind; instead, just a an extra hour and a half during the day.

Indeed. And you would have won. A lot of money.

yes, if something like that had happened to me, I would have sued the school district.

We probably would have called the local news stations, as well as the local paper, to get publicity behind the story as well.

There had to be another option. Contacting the state or something. That's bullshit.

We couldn't sue because in order to attend school you have to sign a packet at the start of the year saying that you will comply with the zero tolerance policy (along with a bunch of other stuff).
We appealed and we fought, but to no avail.

Is this a public school? And if so, the packet you're referring to, is that the booklet they give to all students at the beginning of each term with the page at the end that must be brought back to school signed by both you and your parent agreeing to all the rules and regulations concerning attendance, clothing, etc.?

What school actually abides by those 60 pages of ridiculous rules? :lol

So? And that means you're incapable of still hiring a lawyer and suing them? You don't even attend the school anymore at that point....fuck some piece of paper you signed.

Yeah, you could have done even more than suing....contacting news stations and so forth, putting this bullshit in the public light. They fucked up without your knowledge, and they kick you out of school for it. Don't tell me NOTHING could have been done about it.

She WAS punished according to the school district, but as far as I know she still has her job.

Uh, yes you CAN sue. You're not the only one who has rules to comply to. In this case, it was the school's error, not yours, that bought along the contract violation.

The other big problem I failed to mention earlier was that the counselor tried to cover her ass. In the end it ended up her word against mine. She claimed to send me a new schedule pointed out the conflict, but no copy of that schedule was found in my folder in her office. IF YOU SENT IT, WHERE IS THE BACKUP?

The mind reels. You all are right, I should have done more to fight this. I'm just happy I have High School out of the way.

What. The. Fuck? That is unbelievable. There's got to be more to that story, right? That's the most retarded thing I've ever heard.

What you should have done though, was called in the lawyers. No matter what you signed, there's no way they could enforce their dumbass ZT policy in this case. If that didn't work, publicize it. This is the kind of zany story that newspapers love, and a bit of negative publicity might have changed the small minds of the school authorities.

How long ago did this happen? I assume it's too late now to do anything about it.

This was March of this year.

You're right.
I, of my own free will, was at the mercy of my father's decisions.
I trusted him through the entire process and took his advice when he told me to drop all of this and focus on passing the GED.

Seriously, though, oli, your family can afford a maid, but can't afford a lawsuit over a clear-cut case that woulda ultimately cost you NOTHING?

StoOgE

First tragedy, then farce.
wait.. let me get this strait.. you think you have a better chance of getting into Sam Houston State as someone else in the top 30 percent of your graduating class..? Sam Houston state? A retarded donkey with a crack habit could get into Sam Houston state. I just checked their admissions requirements.. if you are in the top HALF of your graduating class you need a 930 on your SAT to get in. If you are in the top 25 percent you need an 850, they give you 200 points for your fucking name. Just FYI you need a 1010 to get in with a GED, so you are wrong, the top 50% of your high school has a better chance of getting in.

Also, you should have sued.. you agreed to the zero tolerance policy that says you cant have too many absences.. but you werent actually absent from class. That same retarded donkey with a crack habit could have milked the school for money (after having graduated from Sam Houston state mind you).. also you could have sued the councilor for fucking you over.

By the way, have fun in Hunstville (I have family in Jasper, I think its sad that Hunstville is the place they travel to for a night on the town :lol).. at least go to SFA, Nachadoches is a bit better.

Clear Cut? My word vs. another is not clear cut.
And we don't have a maid anymore. My mother didn't like her.

Um.. do you have your schedule that clearly states your classes on it? Doesn't the school keep backup copies of schedules? Were you or your family ever informed of your alleged "absesnes" from this class?

You have a better case than 99% of the cases out there, oli. And you let them push you around.

How big was your high school? I mean, really...no one in that other class knew you, and asked you why you weren't showing up even so your name was being called for attendance?

Must have been huge...but still.

Nah, I buy it: Republican "educational" policy, especially that institutionalized by th Bush governorship, is really vile -- "no tolerance" sounds all tough and hardass, and appeals to the bootstrap crowd, but it's fucked over quite a few honest-to-God good students.

It's changed me view on education, that's for sure.

it is when she has nothing to back up her word. like you said. she didnt have a copy of the supposed letter she sent you. counselors always keep copies of everything. how else are they supposed to remember what they did and didnt do or say to a student.

clear cut, because the burden of proof is on the school to show that they didn't screw up, if they can't prove that they didn't scew up, and not having any documentation to show that they corrected thier error and notified you about it tells me that they don't actually have any sort of defense and thus, by default you win!

It's like at my job at the State Dental Board, if the Board opens a case against a dentist for non-compliance with a Board order and we as the board have no documentation to show that the dentist was ever notified of the Board order in the first place then the dentist wins and the Board looks like idots!

You got the shit end of the stick there bigtime. It's sad to hear you didn't do more for your defense.
