AniHawk said:Sweet. Does World of Warcraft require a DVD-ROM to play? Are there different types of subscription fees? I have a Mac, thus, I don't spend a lot of time playing computer games, but I'm considering taking the plunge for this. Is it a good game for a MMORPG newbie?

- Mob control or lack of...
- Yes, mob control... it's a really frustrating helpless situation.
- It might be that I'm too early within the game, but there doesn't seem to be too much variety for weapons and armor.
RuGalz said:It's intentional. You don't have mob control when you play PvP either; it'd be pretty bad to pamper you in PvE while it is kind of like a training ground for PvP. However I do find their mobs behavior usually having the strongest guy going after main healer interesting because that's kind of what you have to deal with in PvP situation as well.
Cus that's not the team work dynamics they are shooting for. They made the game mainly for PvP. Why train a bunch of players through 20 levels just to become crappy PvP players and ruin the pickup PvP games? There's very different team work strategy when you can simply have tank gather aggro and not having one. The team work can get pretty complex in PvP games depends on your party's setup and the opponent party's setup. This doesn't make sense. I mean it does, but why sacrifice having fun in one aspect of the game to ensure players get used to another aspect? Why not have different expectations for both?

In PvE situation, when you are ambushed, the AI always have like 1 or 2 mobs going after the mages. You have a couple choices. If they also have healer in the back, you can either take it out asap or focuse on killing the mobs hitting your mages if you think you can kill it faster than they can heal themselves. If they don't have healer in the back, just take out the mobs hitting the mages. Have mages call target when they are getting hit if they are not henchmen so everyone knows what to do. Just remember mobs don't have res, you do.
But the characters are separated. You can't used a PvE char in PvP. It's somewhat pointless as you are going to use different tactics when in PvP. Besides, PvP is definitely a more team based effort.
I really just wished the game had a better solo content for the single player. As it is, it tries to mimic a MMORPG in single player (well, even those have freaking potions) and it's even more punishing at it with the agro area being so wide.
Tortfeasor said:You guys know that you can hire henchmen to go fight with you whenever you leave the city or go on a mission, right? That way you can "solo" but still have a healer and mage to back you up.
when I talk about graphics, mind you that IMHO world of warcraft's art direction is second to none. it's architectural and world design are just breathtaking in almost every area. however, the limits of the game's graphics' technical prowess can't help but be mentioned. Low resolution textures, low poly count models.. the game NEEDS fabulous art direction because it certainly doesn't have much technical merit. now I fully realize that is so the game can run on lower end systems, thus widening the games install base, but let's not act like WoW is the end all be all.. as Guild wars has shown, a game with modest art direction and great technical detail can come close to WoW's graphics which have much better direction to them.TheDuce22 said:After you stop soloing and the 4 man partys open up the game gets alot better. So far grouping seems more like a faster paced FFXI than diablo 2 or world of warcraft. Its pretty fun and challeging. Nobody is going to convince me it looks better than WoW though, and I have all the settings turned to max. The animation sucks, the scale of certian things seem off and the environment could not be any less interactive.
