So is my gamecube shot?

I recently tried to fire it up and play for the first time since RE4 (March or so), but I got nothing. Without the disc I didn't even get the system menu screen. The power light went on, the fan started up, but nothing else. The same with different games in the drive. Last night I was able to get it up and running for a while, but today it was back to the same. Anyone have this happen to them before.

The only answer I can provide for fixing a Nintendo system is blowing into it with all your might. It worked when I was 10.

But that doesnt sound good. I've heard good things about Nintendos customer support when it comes to broken systems

Odd suggestion, but try a different controller. I had an official Nintendo controller that would not allow my system to power up at all. I'd hit the power button, the light would go on for a sec and then shut off and the fans would power on as well for a sec. Occasionally I could get it to run like you, but then I figured out it was the controller mucking things up.

I just bought a new S-video cable. Thats why I was trying it out. And it did work after fighting with it, for about two hours last night on both the standard cable and the new s video one, as I made a point of checking both when it was running. But I tried it again today with the same problem as before. As far as sending it in to Nintendo, it's a launch system so the warranty is probably long over. Oh well, if it's gone I'll just have to get a new one when Zelda comes out.

Does anything happen on the screen? Have you tried something else like a DVD player into the same connection on the TV? To just rule out a problem with the TV.

There is a flicker when I turn the power on and then nothing else. I also tried my xbox in all my S-video ports, followed by the gamecube. Only the xbox worked. At least there nothing wrong with my new tv.

I'll give that a try. See what they think it is at least.

Did you try my suggestion? What you're describing is exactly what my Gamecube was doing.

I tried it with no controller in the system (which didn't work) and I can't try a different one as I only have the one. I'll have to borrow one from somewhere to try.

If at all possible, borrow a friend's plug and power supply and give that a go. It could be that the transformer in the power supply has conked out, in which case you can simply buy a new one.
