My girlfirend had her trial in North Carolina today.

She ended up not getting convicted or anything. The judge said he was going to say a prayer over her, and asked the DA if he objected to that ruling.

That's it. She just has to pay $100 for the court fees, and she won't have any conviction records.

Thank god for crazy-ass conservative judges in the south.

shoplifting charges. First offense.

I was expecting her to go on probation or pay heavy fines.

According to her "currituck or whatever county" - she's not quite sure how it's spelled. It's whichever county Outer Banks is in.

No idea man. I don't think she has any idea either. Her father drove her down and everything, so he knows all the info.

and as for details, I had a thread about it awhile back. She was on vacation this summer and decided to be an idioth and steal shit from a store. She got caught, got arrested, and got let out on bail.

Indeed. That judge/DA combo just set precedent. ANy first timer can steal, get caught, and get their case dismissed or just appeal it on the grounds of precedent. Therein why that judge needs to be removed for accepting that sentence and the DA should be fired for not seeing justice served.

Nothing against your girlfriend of anything, but this is a travesty...

and as for the dumping her stuff, there's really no need to. It was something she did wrong, got caught, and learned her lesson. She's not the type of person to do bad shit like this all the time.

I've been going out with her for nearly 3 years now, and this was something she let her friends influence her into doing for a month or so.

edit: and i'd find it hard to believe that none of you have ever stolen anything. Downloading music is a much worse offense than shoplifting, and hardly anyone has a problem with that. It was something she did because her friends were doing it and she didn't realize it was bad. She got caught, learned her lesson, and has absolutely no desire to do anything like this any longer.
