So, normal TV users are screwed? (Xbox 360)

Damn, I can't believe I missed that switch, it makes a world of difference in kameo. Thanks for mentioning this, I was thinking it didn't look that great on my hdtv, now it looks TASTIC!

And this is why 2D......

....Oh what's the point?

Man, there are only like 2 posts on this thread of people who have used a 360 on a reg TV. I guess the shortage really is that heavy.

I've seen some games on a regular TV, and they didn't look unusually amazing. Although visual technology is progressing in different directions, I think we've still got a ways to go for those Toy Story graphics ... and for people saying that you need an HDTV to see the impact new systems, as somebody brought up, Toy Story looks awesome on videotape, and that ain't HDTV.

The commercials Microsoft is running for PGR, however, have me wondering whether I should check out the system again on a regular TV. I don't remember it being that nice, but I don't know why they would render that. Maybe they're using a scaler of HDTV video to bring game clips down to standard definition? Or can the 360 look that nice on my trusty upstairs mono TV?

You know, some of us don't have the money to buy an HDTV.

I guess you HDTV owners never have any problems with baby's mama drama while barely making a living wage for yourself.

QFT

but I'll have a HDTV this week so I guess I can't be a part of your group anymore :(

I digress..

2K6 360 looks awesome on my shitty tv.

X-BOX 360's "HD-ERA":
-premier titles running at 480p
-some others only upscaled to 720p
-no HD cables out of the box
-what about HDMI?
-even less HD support for PAL versions

Um.... if you work at Gamestop you should know better than half of those 'facts'. I guess component isn't HD anymore? And aren't all 360 titles in 720p as well?

Well if thats the case, X360 can fuck itself. I'm sure that there will be games that will look great on a SDTV later on, whether the system be the X360, PS3, or Rev I don't know. But I sure as hell won't be spending $400 on a system, then another $500-$900 for a TV so that Next-Gen games will actually look good at my place. Fuck buying a VGA cable, my computer screen is being used for exactly what its meant for, my fucking computer. When I come home and wanna play a game, I don't wanna hook up my console to the PC screen, sit in my uncomfortable chair, disconnect the screen from my PC and hook it up the VGA cable, and be hella close to the screen. I wanna lay back in my couch, turn on the TV, switch the channel to Video, turn on my system, and play the damn thing from a decent distance.

So basically if MS drops the HDTV requirement devs can focus on making the games tons better on most TV's? If that is true then why not drop that requirement in time for the PS3 launch to better compete?

I've played 2 games on my standard definition 27 inch TV.

This is what I think.

Condemned has high end PC lighting plus Xbox 360-centric effects. Also, there's a few uses of physics.

Kameo is basically a neverending barrage of high resolution textures and effects. Glassy, fuzzy, smudgy, sparky, icy, beamy, you name it. It exists in some stage. Always striking, sometimes appealing. Tons of characters on screens too, which is a first for a released console game.

Overall, I can confidently realize why the Xbox could not handle such technologies while understanding that it will get a whole lot better once 2006 arrives. By the end of 2006, so many games will be standardized and multiplatform that this "1.5" argument will have disappeared.

Based on the stories of HDTV's, I think I'm better off not knowing what I'm missing.

I may be playing on the worst TV of anyone here.

It's an old non-stereo SD TV with no composite inputs, and lots of overscan. I lose the corners of the screen in every game I play.

I've got to use my VCR to run a cable cord into my TV so I can actually view the X360 on the TV.

It's blurry and not crisp at all, but I can tell it's a step up from Xbox graphically. Granted, on my TV, it looks like a baby step, but you can definitely tell it's a step up.

Kameo looks better than PGR3 on a standard TV imo. Kameo just oozes with dazzle and special effects everywhere, with clean textures and really bright, colorful environments. It's really impressive.

PGR3 looks good, but not as sharp as the videos I've seen online. PGR3 should be best experienced with a HDTV.

I posted this in another thread but 360 games look fine on a norml sized TV. The friend of mine with a 360 is playing it on a 24inch toshiba through component. Apparently despite being a small 300 dollar tv it does 480P. All 3 of his games look slick(PGR3, RR6, PD0) and the demos of NFSMW, KAMEO and NBA LIVE are also particularly nice. I figure Kameo is the nicest looking game though, just the sheer number of special effects being tossed your way whithout any graphical hitches.

I only have a 27inch JVC Tv with component inputs that's worked fine for all 3 systems so far and I intend to use it with the 360 as well. I see little to no reason why I should go blow 1500+ dollars on a TV I'd only use for this system, especially with technology getting better and cheaper every 6 months. It also helps that my entertainment room can only stand a tv 42 inches in size tops, eventually there'll be a nice 720p capable 32-42inch set that cost me 1000 or less I'm sure.

As much as I love PGR3, I have to agree with you. Kameo looks amazing on my SDTV. PGR3 is no slouch though. I posted some pics in this thread , but they really don't translate very well. What I see on my screen looks much better- especially in motion.

No....He isn't...

He's talking about the RF connection vs Compsite/Svideo.

And who ever said gaming isn't a luxury. The hobby of gaming is quite expensive as is so I don't really see any real point to your post. We all have our problems. We just don't air our dirty laundry in this forum because that's what the off-topic forum is for.

what, i need a HDTV to play my 360?

oh well in that case, i guess i should just sell it on ebay or something, huh? nope...

i'm not buying a HDTV until the standards makers finally make up their minds for really really real... for real this time!!! really!!!!!!

Considering Kameo looked like above in Xbox, I hardly could make the difference between generations if I connect the X360 to my 14" TV :lol

I notice there's a lot of people complaining about advancing technology. What exactly is wrong with that? If we rewound back to the late 70's and early 80's would we hear complaints about how expensive cassette tape and cd players were compared to 8 track and vinyl?

Technology changes as time moves on. Some people can't afford it, and some can. Eventually it drops to a price when everyone can, and it is up to YOU to decide whether or not the additional clarity and advancement makes YOU feel great. Or you can sit in your dusty basement with your LP's and argue for hours on internet forums about how vinyl is the superior format, and how the death of betamax was unwarranted.

It was a very Apple like move of MS to do this. Traditionally, Apple has had no compunction about cutting things that they considered "legacy", much to the changrin of their users. The lack of a floppy frive is a great example, when they did that 5 or 6 years ago.

I applaud companies that don't cater to the lowest common denominator. MS came up with a nice compromise for everyone:Looks the best for those with HDTVs while also making it perfectly good on SDTVs as well.
