So that new Suicide Squad coming out is actually good?

Currently sitting at 100% rotten tomatoes with 47 reviews. What dafuq...

A good half of the jokes don't land, but unlike his predecessor's joyless slog, Gunn's version at least celebrates the nonsense...

Sometimes, you just need to watch a humanoid shark tear a man in half.

Amazing!! Insanely violent, wide on it's level of scope, humor is at its best for DC, & is sooo much fun! James has given us yet another one of the Best Comicbook Films yet!

Yeah, critics love the Marvel formula and DC literally brought in a Marvel guy to Marvelize the movie. Classic reviewer manipulation. it was always going to review well.

1. I love the freedom WB seemingly gave to James Gunn on this. Glad to see it is reviewing well and I hope people enjoy it.

2. As far as personal enjoyment goes, I get a bit worried when I see reviews like "Sometimes, you just need to watch a humanoid shark tear a man in half." I don't fall into that category. I don't get off on seeing whacky stuff just because it sounds ludicrous. It seems like people get off on that sort of thing sometimes. I really want to know about the execution. Then again, it's just a piece of pop-flair to spice up his review, so I am taking it a bit seriously.

James is in charge so of course it’s going to be good. Y’all should check out the Belko Experiment, it’s like a modern day Die Hard, especially in terms of quality and replayability.

This makes me happy. Of course it's always going to be one's opinion in the end, and I might think it's a vastly over-rated film, like most of MCU out there, but I'm glad DC's getting some good critical appraise in there still.

Solid 4/5 honestly

The definite strength of the movie are the characters, I think it could have been 15 mins shorter tho. Action was good (in particular that Harley's sequence and they finally DID HER WELL in a movie), it doesn't try to be a movie about heroes or whatever. Its a movie about the actual Task Force X. I don't know about the similarities in ratings between france and the usa, I've seen that they call it a hard hard R but here it only has a warning about graphic content. That being said, its super violent and there's some gory shit too. I liked that the violence was mostly used in a comical way, but when you think about the actual situations its legit fucked up lol

Only thing I think that could have been used more was King Shark. To me the showstealer of the whole thing is Elba's Bloodsport, but its going to vary for sure between people

Its in the top 3 of movies recently made by DCs (not including Batman Trilogy). Like, imho its Shazaam / Aquaman / The Suicide Squad (its better than Wonder Woman)

I know he was offered it before but I definitely love to see Gunn direct a Superman film. Anyways, I'm super excited for TSS. I'm going to try and attend a fan screening in Chicago tomorrow but it's first come first serve so I probably will have to wait till next week watch 😤

I don't know what gnarlier means.

How is it called the type of comedy in gog2? Slapstick?! I fucking hated that movie except for the blue guy parts.
its mostly schlock humour and as said prior, most of the action sequences are comedic in nature because of how the violence is used toward that end. There's also some dark comedy elements

outside of harley's sequence and one particular fight that I'm not going to spoil, pretty much all the action has gore effects AND quips for the lulz. The tone is very akin to the first trailer released

Oh don't get me wrong, i'm still gonna watch the movie even if the humor is shit, i watch everything with a shark in it.

Of course. It's quite telling that they had to bring in a marvel director to finally make a good dceu movie. I wonder who they'll poach next? Taika?

This isn't really a MCU style movie tho; it seems more raunchy & schlocky like Fox's Deadpool. I don't remember Captain America talking about how he would suck rock hard veiny cocks for freedom.

Meh. Critics liking something only means it follows all of their current rules. I think this movie is gonna be as bad as any other, except now they'll have old songs playing to stupid comedy action scenes.

Just got back from seeing this, went in with high expectations and it met them. Great film, very much felt like a James Gunn film in that it has just the right mix of heart and action; quite a long film too but ties things up just as it's about to outstay it's welcome. Solid 9/10, the entire family loved it too despite moaning they didn't want to see it prior and asking to see Jungle Cruise instead.

if I had to be a dick and explain why it's not a 10/10, it's just trying to pack too much into one film - GotG has an entire movie to build up a characters backstory and make them likable (Yondu) but in this they needed to make you feel attached to the expendable cast in order to have their possible deaths mean something, and often that was done via "here is a impromptu 5 minute flashback to explain this character" but given the context that JG was never going to make a sequel to this, they somehow did manage to make you care about them so fair play, it works, even if it's a bit blunt and in your face at times.

Bonus points for somehow making Starro the Destroyer legit terrifying, and also not spoiling some of the best jokes by showing them all in the trailers. Polkadot Man has a great running gag that I won't ruin.

TLDR; Go see it

Just saw it earlier.

Every so often there's a Capeshit movie that comes out that has a real passion and character to it. It's beyond the means to an end for a studio to prey on manchildren and expect them to eagerly consume a product. That film prior to The Suicide Squad was Enter the Spiderverse and now it's The Suicide Squad.

Sure it's another thrill ride/amusement park/whatever but it was constructed by a fan for fans. I had faith from the start, I wasn't disappointed. This movie was made for me and I'm glad I got to see it.

Not many characters survive be warned when I watched this movie I was uneasy the entire time who could die.

Thrills, chills, kills. It has it all. You will be surprised, there is trust and there is betrayal.

Watched this garbage not too long ago and it was the absolute definition of cringe and trying too hard for a laugh. John Cena should stick to making faces on WWE and the widely respected Idris Elba should stick to dramas as comedy isn’t his thing.

How about using the spoilers tag next time? Literally telling me characters die and get betrayed is BS. WTF?

So basically it was shitty action comedy pieces set to music people would like. Called it.

The movie is called Suicide Squad, what exactly were you expecting? No stakes MCU trash? ☹

I barely recognised any of the music in the movie. Also it has its share of tragedy despite having comedic elements.

Yeah no, I don't trust Rotten Tomato reviews.

The amount of shit movies with high reviews on that website has put me completely far and away from reading up on movie reviews ever again.

I've gone back to just sitting through a movie and making up my thoughts on it and talking about it with my loved ones these days.

Same shit for these YouTube videos theorizing plots for TV shows. They're all a waste of time, and at worst, they steal some of the fun of being surprised at a certain revelation in the story.
