• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

So, what are your CES predictions?

Someone is expecting everything to be revealed about the PS3. Others expect only a blu-ray disc being played on a unit.

Personaly, I think it's something in between. Focus will be on online system and Blu-Ray. (I also expect RSX specs to be unveiled though not focused on)

I haven't been following what other companies(videogame related or not) are bringing.

Predictions:

-Sony will show off blu-ray players one of which will be the PS3
-Sony will reveal the intial set of movies that will be blu-ray ready
-Sony will extend their ideal of "Sony World", show how all the product interact or something
-Sony will reveal the PS3 XMB and show off all of PS3's multimedia functionality
-Sony will show off some stuff pertaining to EyeToy2
-Sony will MAYBE better define what BC on the PS3 will be like (AA,AF, faster loads that sort)
-Sony will MAYBE show off a trailer or two for PS3 games (most likely old trailers)
-Sony will MAYBE show off any changes to the controller along with whatever functionality they added
-Sony will MAYBE show off how the PS3 interacts with the PSP and other devices

Those are my guesses. The Feb show will be about gaming the CES show will be about multimedia, but I expect a few gaming tidbit here and there.

Sony will unveil a new PS3 controller.

Texas Instruments will have a strong showing with it's DLP technology. DLP will be the display technology star of CES.

HP will show of a new DLP set with 4x wobulation.

I predict that the unsubstantiated news about PS3 being in a starring role will turn into a disappointment as Sony shows a lot less than expected here.

Sony says:

"Remember when we told ya'll the PS3 will be expensive? Well we lied. 299, nigga, goddamn!" [/Chappelle]

This is a variation of the joke Kobun Heat nailed a few months ago.

Kaz enters auditorium.
Crowd stares in silence.
"$299!"
Crowd Goes Wild, Kaz exits.

I'd love to see Sony price the PS3 at 299. It'd level MS and Nintendo for good.

Would be even more amusing IMO.

They'll reveal the media capabilities of the ps3, nothing more (maybe some game reels tho)

if any prices are announced it'll probably be the price of an average Blu-ray movie.

+1.

If we are are really lucky, they'll showcase it as the centre of your media home (CES is a good place for this). part of that would include Bluray stuff, but also streaming video/music, and maybe web browsing.

You know, like the 360, only done properly

BTW, CES is Jan 5-8th. Bill Gates has a keynote the evening of the 4th, then Howard Stringer has a go the morning of the 5th

I'm gonna miss all them announcements since I won't be there until the weekend. I guess I'll just catch it here at GAF with you guys...

With everyone keeping on downplaying Sony, and they keep on saying the E3 level trailers is what to expect and we'll see it soon, I look forward to their PS3 showing at CES. I want to see if they make good on their promises.

PS! Sony already said that they wouldn't reveal a redesigned PS3 controller at CES.

Do you know what the final story is on the PS3 controller? I hope they don't go back to the old dual shock design. I know Phil Harrison stated not all the features were revealed about the controller, but I didn't know the controller was getting a brand new design. Probably have to wait for the Playstation festival in Feb.

More tech demos on PS3, but most info will be on Blu-Ray - specifically, price, release date, and hopefully a movie launch list. With Batman Begins at the top.

Sony changed it to piss of Bushnell. :P

hmmm, all i really care to see is a finalized ps3 dev kit at the show and details on the RSX. I figure a tech show would be more for this type of thing. RSX details por favor!!`

Not to be a cock/troll: I predict that news about Blu Ray partners/production schedules will make the idea of a Spring PS3 launch laughable.

Sony has atleast UT2007 they could show playable at the show. PSM already played it. There's probably others, I guess it just depends on whether they want to save the playables for their February show.

I don't want to set myself up for disappointment, but I would love to see gyro function make it into the PS3 controller. That would make FPS on PS3 heavenly to play.

Did the monstergecko geckoblaster ever come out? Not my ideal controller but I would like to know how the gyro function worked on PS2 and Xbox fps games. This is a little about it:

GeckoBlaster:  The first and only game controller with
                gyroscopic sensor technology. The GeckoBlaster
features gyro-sensing aiming and unique gyro movement
capabilities, which allows for use with any display --
unlike a light gun -- making this the first pistol
style controller option for rear-projection, LCD, and
plasma TVs. Other features include: 2.4 GHz wireless
                RF; analog thumb-stick movement; 8-way analog D-Pad,
programmable buttons; dual vibration motors, and it
works with all console games. The GeckoBlaster will
come in two versions: PS2 and Xbox.

I heard about it at E3 but nothing since then. Maybe they will be at CES.

CES is starting to become a place for the VG industry.

EA will announce the PSP & 360 title fighters there and Xbox 360 is supposed to have a few announcements there as well.

If that happens Nintendo is done for.

Well, Nintendo wouldn't be done for, but it would steal some of their thunder. Blu Ray, 1080P, gyro technology, that would be a tough combo to fight against (I'm speaking more for MS than Nintendo). Ever since I read Harrisons comments on the controller I've been hoping it would be something big like this.

It's for all of Sony, not just PS3. And that makes me cautious.

But then PS3 is probably Sony's key product for 2006.

@CES or E3:
Sony: Price $299 , and another generation of Market leadership!

Microsoft has no change in winning the next console war, the same experience as the PS3. Nothing against the system but knowing sony (PSP hardware VS DS hardware) 360 is going down hard(and there is no remote or touch screen to save them), I can see the endless marketing campaigns and huge stock shortages already. Sony cant afford to loose the playstation brand. Its the only part of the company that makes a huge profit.
I wonder what they will do with the "boomerang" controller. Unlike MS they still have time for changes.

Nintendo however sets itself apart from the Next console war they expand there line up of Braintraining and Nintendogs games wich will increase marketshare and popularity.
Zelda's and Metroids will keep the Fanbase happy(They aint bailing out even if Nintendo screws them yet again).

The controller is the major part of the Revolution , if sony gets something equal they are not done for in terms of sale's or marketshare but done for in what path to take next. They want to seperate from te market going head to head for yet another generation isn't going to work for them. If sony changes the controller so Nintendo has no choice but to head on head they will be 3rd once again. And need to find a new innovation. Maybe they shouldn't have showed the controller but some screenshots or renders for the next Mario/Metroid game. They already showed to much. Sony can do everything to counter the revolution or controller, setting up there own Brain training series isnt going to cost much either. Even if there is a Second feature on the device.

We have seen more from Nintendo then from Sony.

I expect next to nothing. PS3 will be there to bolster Sony as a brand. Mostly their electronics divison.

GAF will absolutely explode come CES, guaranteed.

PS3 will certainly be highlighted, but Sony's show will hardly be all for the PS3. It's ~mostly an electronics show and will be targeted towards that crowd. The PS3 is certainly a part of their strategy for that market, but it's not the biggest part.

Sony points out they successfully shipped 30 million PSPs and declare the handheld wars officially over.
