So, what's next for the revolution?

BW: In the future, what do you think video games will be like?

Miyamoto: It's convenient to make games that are played on TVs. But I always wanted to have a custom-sized screen that wasn't the typical four-cornered cathode-ray-tube TV. I've always thought that games would eventually break free of the confines of a TV screen to fill an entire room. But I would rather not say anything more about that.

wtf?!

You'd think with a quote like that there would be a 10 page thread with speculations by now. It seems he likes to drop some hints out with interviews. One example would be about how you could use the revolution as a lever instead of just pushing a button. The thing that comes to mind after reading that quote would be something like that starmap thing they had in SW episode 2. But then again, you'd always need to play in a dark room to be able to see anything, so it's probably just his crazy daydreams about the future.

The thing is... why wouldn't he elaborate a bit more if it was a simple daydream? I agree with the 10 page thread tho... :) Just wait til someone starts a thread about this!

i just find it funny that Miyamoto busted that out. reminds me of the time when he let Twin Snakes slip by accident.

It does sound like he's hinting at stereo-scopic features or something, but I pray he was just talking about something else. The Revolution is already innovative enough. I don't see how that would work in the US market at all.

I don't remember him revealing Twin Snakes early though. Hm, must have missed that.

He'd rather not say 'cos he either: A) doesn't want Nintendo fans to get their hopes up for something that's not happenning yet or B) they're fiddling with it on Revolution and he doesn't want to give away too many hints about it. There was that suppossed "quote" about stereoscopic glasses on Nintendo's press site too...that could easily have been faked, but what if it really was up for just a moment and then quickly taken down? Remember, like that stuff that was up on Nintendo's E3 site and then quickly taken down?

To go out on a limb of DrGAKMAN's ca-razy speculation...look at Star Fox. This would be the perfect game to explore with stereoscopic 3D. And, in the past, Star Fox was like Nintendo's technilogical show-off game, first Star Fox with the FX Chip and Star Fox 64 with the Rumble Pak. Star Fox seems to be Miyamoto's "baby" and would explain why there were two major Star Fox efforts on GCN, despite both not doing too well. And why didn't they do too well? Because they didn't have that technilogical breakthrough that the original and N64 versions did. With Revolution, Nintendo has the perfect chance to use Star Fox again to show off their next breakthrough: Stereoscopic 3D! Star Fox would be the perfect showcase for such technology!

The press thing was completly bogus, the article number on the url couldn't have landed at the time the news was posted, it was off by a few thousand.

I can't believe we didn't cover the most obvious thing; the shell. I'm thinking that the remote might actually go in sideways versus vertical. At least, that way it would look less cumbersome. Of course, you wouldn't have access to most of those buttons on the remote, you'd use the shell ones instead but that's just a though. I don't think it will look entirely like the wavebird like IGN suggest, i'm thinking it will be a bit more traditional with enough buttons (i.e an extra L button and possibly clickable analogs). It's also very doubtful that the L and R triggers will double up as clickable like on the cube.

no, that's not why they made 2 Star Fox games this last gen. your reasoning for them not doing well is also wrong.

although yes, Star Fox would be a great show case for 3D stuff.

Those aren't only real justified reasons of course, but it's my opinion that Star Fox is Miyamoto's "baby" and that the game works best when showing off new Nintendo technology.

Not even close, dude. If Starfox was even remotely as important as Mario or Zelda, you can bet your butt Miyamoto would have handled quality control much better than he did.

Well, to be 100% honest, Super Mario Sunshine wasn't quite up to par with Mario 64. Regardless, I will be playing at least two iterations of Star Fox on my Revolution, one for SNES and one for N64.

I like Mario Sunshine, but I agree with you. But the deal with Starfox: Assault was much more noticible. It's like Miyamoto just wanted them to finish it up so they could have another SF game or something.

Well according to N-Sider (who are fairly reliable considering their ties with IGN) this is next:

Nintendo is officially disclosing plans to release new info regarding Revolution in the coming weeks.

"...we do plan to release more information about the system by the end of the year, which may include details about the games or the final name of the system."

-- Nintendo Representative

It's likely this will happen before Christmas; possibly much sooner (given the approaching launch date of a certain competitor).

Stay tuned to N-Sider as more details become available.
