I am planning a Halloween party again this year and wanted to make it a little unique from years past. My partner and I just bought Jones Halloween soda at Target, so we decided that maybe we would have a soda/beer tasting slant to the party. Rare and unique sodas and beers? But where can I buy them? Any ideas? www.sodaking.com/ is one any others?

Thanks.

Yeah for soda, it doesn't get any better than Jones Soda. Lots of cool, unique flavors. My favorites are FuFu Berry, Green Apple, Watermelon and Orange & Cream. You can find it at just about any mom and pop store, of you can just order it directly from jonessoda.com.

So far, I got some Ting, a popular jamiacian drink, alot of Japanese coffee drinks, some Isreali stuff from a 99 cents store, some Ginger Beer, some Mexican soda, Mahattan Specials (brooklyn!). Also:
In my search i found these, awesome, but out of my budget drinks: (I love Coke BTW)

Coke Raspberry (New Zealand exclusive)

I dislike paying $1.25 for 10 ounces of soda at Meijer, but with Jones I can't resist. Go green apple

I like Ginger Beer, it's very different than what I'm used to. If you drink it (where it's often stocked) at a Jamaican restaurant where they are making Jerk Chicken you feel as though you will melt.

If you're planning on picking up Jones Green Soda, buy a 12 pack of cans at Target, it's much cheaper.

The Jones Soda factory is here in Seattle, they're always willing to let people come in for a tour and try everything they make.

Crystal Pepsi :)

Super blast to the past if you manage to get your hands on some. Ebay would probably be the best to find it.

Bawls is also somewhat obscure as mostly only gamer-types drink it.

Hawaiian Splash (Japanese soft drink) is also really good. I practically had a pet bottle everyday of it back in Japan :)

Just to clarify for those who don't know Melon soda is NOT watermelon flavour- you can get a jones soda that's watermelon .. its allright. Melon Soda is closer to a honeydew melon/cantalope sort of taste. Hard to describe really , although Miyiru if your interested my jap friend told me it can be found in Chinatown , dunno which store but I would think Lucky 97 market would have it.

I ended up buying 48 cans of Dublin Dr. Pepper directly from Old Doc's Soda Shop in Texas where they make it.

With shipping it's $1.02 a can.

Inca Kola is Peru's leading soft drink.. it is the only soft drink in the world to lead over Coca-Cola in a country where it's widely available. Apparently sold in US supermarkets and the like to boot!

Random wikipedia knowledge I acquired recently.

I don't think that's entirely true. I'm pretty sure Irn Bru outsells Coca Cola in Scotland.

I tried something called Gale's Root Beer over the weekend. It is hands down the best root beer I have ever had. Gale Gand (who has been on the food channel) created it and her experience as a pastry chef shows in the recipe. It has a wonderful flavor of cinnamon and vanilla.

Check out any local asian markets near you for some unique sodas. Also, hit up World Market if you have one near you. I've noticed that they stock a lot of independant sodas and sodas from other countries there.

There's a drink called Rili (ya rly) in Finland. It tastes like tar. And by that I don't mean it tastes bad, I mean it's supposed to taste like tar. But I really doubt you can find it, or taste it if you do find it.

The Wikipedia indicated that was the case for some time, but that Coca-Cola had taken the lead from Bru in recent years. Until then, it and Inca Kola were the only two soft drinks to lead over Coke.

Snor (Dutch for moustache), silly 70s soda that gave you a foam moustache...
That ad is very funny, for two reasons. One, they appear to be drinking beer, no two ways about it. Two, that pic on the bottom left looks like kiddie porn.

Fair enough, the Bru article has them about equal. I'll fix that next time I'm in Scotland, even if it means I have to sacrifice my teeth.

Anyone have pictures of that Japanese Ramune soda with the little marble you push into the glass? My sister picks that up downtown sometimes, and man it's tasty. I'll see if I can get a picture on my own in the next few days of an unopened, then opened bottle.

Beware the repressed communist party animal who is really proletarian in denial masquerading as a bourgeois cold war monger!

Here's a mildly off topic question for americans in this thread- how can you stand the taste of coke down there? The corn syrup is so weak it's almost like diet pop to me. Seriously if you ever come across the border to canada buy a canadian coke and tell me that it doesn't taste 100 times better.

I'm a Pepsi fan, but whenever we go up to Vancouver, I stock up on Coca Cola, mint Aerobars, and Mars bars, seeing how you can't get them in the states.

A favorite of mine is Henry Weinhard's root beer. There's something special about an alcoholic beer maker producing root beer.

And the stuff is damn good, IMO... unfortunately unavailable in Canada. Need to make a cross-border trip in the future, methinks :)

(I presume they still make it -- it's available at Sodaking.com)

They still make it. I saw it at the grocery store last night in Seattle, and a lot of restaraunts in the area have it on tap.

Wanna trade some Mars bars and Coke for some root beer?
