In addition to the typical in-game holiday events that every MMO does, and gifts for people who have played for more than a month, SOE did something interesting with SWG for the holidays: they gave out free credits to everyone who has JTL. Everyone who has an active account before the end of January gets 75,000 credits per character per galaxy:
Dear Current Star Wars Galaxies™: Jump To Lightspeed™ Subscriber,

Congratulations – we are pleased to inform you that you have just received 75,000 in-game credits added to one existing character per galaxy as our way of saying thanks for a great year.

Our best to you this holiday season.

May the Force be with you,

The Star Wars Galaxies Team

Important Information

* To qualify to receive the 75,000 in-game credits you must have an active Jump To Lightspeed account, in good standing, on or before 11:59PM PST on January 31, 2005. The 75,000 credits will be added to one character per server one time only. Credits will only be awarded once. Credits that are lost, traded or otherwise not redeemed cannot be traded for other game items or for cash. Credits awarded will not be replaced/reissued under any conditions.

This has actually had an interesting effect given the current state of the game. My first thought was "great, now the economy can become even more fucked", but that isn't the case on most servers. On my server (and apparently others), the in-game economy is actually seeing something of a small recession right now as it's 100% player driven and there's been a change over in the player base in the last six months. There is also less money floating around due to the elimination of the dupers and the credits they flooded into the economy. On top of that some of the older players have moved on, while others are now just fighting over spots on the Light and Dark Side Jedi Councils so they have no time to do any of their crafting for cash.

On top of those factors, there are surprisingly a lot of newbies playing due to the free trials. I was in two full groups (a full group in SWG is about 20 people) tonight and each time there were only one or two other people (besides myself) in the group have been playing for more than six month. I mean, these players are in shock and awe over someone else wearing a full suit of bone armor.

So on those servers where there are a bunch of new players or even those with a economy recession, 75k is actually a nice chunk of money that can buy you a decent ship or very nice rifle.

Myself, I used the 75k to buy a brand new Black Sun fast attack ship:
