Some dude just installed a defibrillator in our office

We had a guy who, after walking up the stairs in our office building, just collapsed. Someone used the AED on him, but he still died. Was in his 40s. You can never be too sure.
Poor chap. Unfortunately, not all cardiac arrests are shockable, and even those which are, the survival rate for cardiac arrests occurring outside of a hospital is very low. That said, I have worked in emergency, ICU and cardiology units, and seen several patients come through who have survived thanks to the quick application of an AED in the community.

One BJJ gym I went to for several years had a defibrillator installed on the wall.
Some of the coaches liked to have 6 rounds of 5 min sparring with 30 seconds of rest in between. I remember many times looking at that thing on the wall when the final rounds were going like, holy shit I might need that soon.

No joke, it's in a case screwed to this column right behind my coworkers desk. It's six feet away from me. What the fuck :messenger_grinning_smiling:

As if any of us knuckleheads are qualified enough to even use one of these things if an emergency really did happen

I guess we can break it out and use it on someone as a joke if they fall asleep at their desk.

I won't go into what I do for a living, but this is highly unusual for my line of work. Does anyone here have one of these in their office that isn't a medical building?
