Some new forza screens and tidbit..

thorns

There a lot of new forza screens at gamespot, though the capture quality is quite poor:

I noticed a couple of new things looking at the screens:

-Rear view mirror for 1st person view
-Toggleable Ideal racing line

some damage:

I don't know what happened to the decal system because the cars look alll plain now.. I hope it didn't get cut :/

Yeah, you can really tell by looking at the screens with text. As far as the decal system, I wouldn't worry about it... I don't think any of the non press shorts have shown anything with custom decals (well, maybe some of the automated stuff in the demo). It's probably a bit too much work to do to go through and do just to take some pics.

No cockpit, no sale.

I'm starting to get sick of games with 200 cars and no cockpits for any of them.. Am I the only person left in the world who likes driving from inside a car?

About right, just the wrong aspect ratio, some deinterlacing artifacts and blurry image. About right indeed.

Just so you know, those pics you posted still suffer from DSN2K's complaints

Indeed, but they still look much better "as captures" as the one from Gamespot.
I have a small video of the maple arena track I'll have to ask MS if I'm finally allowed to post or not, it looks quite nice.

As for the cockpit view, it costs lots of $$$ in licensing and modeling.

If an obscure company like SimBin can get the licensing rights for the whole FIA GT series and their cockpits.. Come on.. It's just laziness.

The (lack of) reflections in all of those shots is interesting...

These latest shots aren't very flattering...

I think it simply has more to do with the amount of modeling required to do the number of cars in each game like that. This game has around 200 cars, GT4 has over 600, and i'd imagine Enthusia is in the hundreds too. It'd just be a heavy undertaking to do all those cars like that with their own interior.

Hmm, I wonder why the cars in BTCC/STCC dont spark like that when they come in contact? Perhaps one car is made out of flint and the other metal? :D

Just kidding, but it does look funny/odd.

That's because they have an exclusive licence for just one type of cars that they managed to get the whole licensing bundle. Also the cockpit of a racing car is much simpler in terms of modeling than one in a "standard" car like the one in GT4 or Forza. Racing cars are all about being fast and practical, not good looking with leather/wood/other stuff that serves no real use.
If MS/Sony want to have a cockpit view, they have to have ALL the cars manufaturers to agree with this, and then you can be sure the licensing fee will go up. Then they have to create the 3D cockpit with perfect details. It's part lazyness maybe, but it's not that easy either.

Aren't all the cockpits already represented in one way or another? (I mean, I imagine that a camera that can show the driver changing gears (through a window or otherwise) would show the inside of the car, as well)

would this just be a case of lazyness?

I guess the idea of a licence to be able to have a cockpit view is an absurd concept to me...but crazier things have happened (hey there EA!)

Holy shit is this the same game as on previous screens? Still Forza right?
Can't believe the difference between doctored fakes and real gameplay shots O_o

There should be a sticky on the forum that explains this. Its exhausting explaining it every week.

I agree! I mean, it's not like this game's competition is doing this as well, right? Hell...this is probably the first time I've ever even heard of a game this gen releasing PR pics that look better than the final product, RITE?

Taking PGR2 as an example, the cockpits are very roughly modeled. Basically there are a few polygons with a low resolution texture. Convincing enough from the outside, but it looks quite bad from the inside :
http://www.xboxyde.com/leech_230_fr.html <- video I did with a hacker camera ini file, you'll see immediatly what I mean.
Making a detailed and lifelike convinving cockpit of a "street" car that you can watch for hours without being annoyed with all the little defects is an entirely different matter than this quick hack job with a photograph and 20 polygons.
As for the crazy licensing stuff, it seems like it's even worse than anything you could imagine. I worked for some time at volkswagen/audi france a few years ago and they had 4 people there just handling all the licensing stuff (not only for games of course) and they were telling me that they had some crazy requirements from the main german office.

Huh... you don't need to jump on me for this like that. I know every company does it (doctor their shots) but this time the difference is quite shocking. I wasn't... prepared for such a big downgrade :/ that's all.

If you followed PGR2 closely this would have been expected. I'm expecting a similar experience:

Great PR shots
More great PR shots
Shitty gamesite shots
Game looks like initial PR shots while you play

Blimblim, I'll have to take your word on this. Still seems crazy to me, though

i dunno, personally i thought the interiors in pgr2 looks fine... i would have loved for a cockpit view in that game. shame you have to manually position each camera angle on a modded box to fit each car just right

I was wondering why the cars looked so damn bland then it hit me. Those cars aren't casting ANY reflections like somebody took a power sander and buffed all the shine off of em. Are they gonna fix that?

Nice observation! You're only 3 hours late!

Edit: Defensor, I rented that game...it looks like absolute shit. These screens look much better.
