Just restoking the hype flames

The shawn layden interview makes me think at least one thing big will be announced. He knows Gaf is watching.

Please show until dawn gameplay

LOL.

How much would it even cost for Sony to buy the rights for Crash?

Or perhaps this is when that Third Party Productions group comes in handy.

If it was cheap they would have done it already...people forget Activision made a SHIT ton of Crash games...they still have an investment in it especially since skylanders blew up

The Third Party team wouldn't come into play. They have their current "own the IP" rule because of what happened with Crash and Spyro. So they aren't going to make one of those games extremely popular again while it's in the possession of another publisher.

Considering Skylanders was from the Spyro IP, Activision would be insane to sell Crash for anything less than an obscene amount Sony would never pay.

Even if Crash can't be turned into a Skylander cash cow, Activision could easily "Sierra-rise" Crash to a smaller developer like with Geometry Wars.

Oh wow.

That was the reason for the rule?

Completely understandable.

Sony lost its 2 greatest mascots D:

Yeah, they had no ownership of Crash and Spyro despite fully funding them. They had publishing rights, but IP belonged to Universal which now belongs to Activision.

Thus them now being very, very particular about IP ownership.

This puts that whole Sunset Overdrive things into perspective, regarding how the studio wanted to keep the IP.

Sony would have definitely shot that down.

Man now I feel miserable, we'll never see another classic Spyro or Crash game.

Yep they own almost every exclusive IP for the system.... I think its actually part of the contract with larger console exclusives now, its the reason Insomniac wanted to go independent

Not just larger console exclusives, any game Sony publishes. They own Journey, Tomorrow Children, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Rime, etc. as well.

Not sure about this, theyve had their hand in some indies like Guacamelee but didnt buy the rights to it....im not sure how their system works....might be some sort of investment level

Sony has an external funding programme called PubFund, where they give some amount of funds for games in development, in exchange for timed exclusivity.

The developers still own the IP and it's still treated as a self-published title. Just some funds to support its development.

Seems an indie game I backed will be shown at this event but I'm not sure if I should be saying what game it is.

From a conceptual level, WKC was a great idea in the hands of the wrong developer.

Yeah the original gameplay video was awesome. It hyped me like crazy.
Party members blocking enemies from behind, cross character combos, great graphics and much better scale... It's a shame the game got a huge downgreade when it showed up again.

Still it was a promising project, i hope we get to see something similar again.

With some enhancements to the graphics and improvemen's to the gameplay, the title could be great. They merged SP and MP into an awesome MMO esque environment.

a new title? never heard of this before, it's called wander
from the description it seems like it's going to be similar with wild?
march 2015 release is really soon though

You start off deep in a forest you can’t remember, occupying a form you don’t recognize. Clues can be found by examining your surroundings, and you may even encounter others like yourself who can help you and share information. During your journey you may also hear the mysterious, siren-like tones of opera singers, and following these songs will lead you to even more exciting discoveries, like the ability to change your shape and acquire new ways of exploring the world.

Playable characters in Wander include the Oren – a walking, sentient tree, and the form you occupy at the beginning of the game; the griffin – with the power of flight; the azertash – with the ability to swim and breathe underwater; and the swift and agile hira. Each of these forms has several unique and gorgeous variants, all with their own cultures, backstories, and specific ways of interacting with other forms and tribes. Along your way you’ll discover lorestones, mysterious records that teach you bits of the history of the planet and its inhabitants. Eventually, if you’re lucky, you might even learn the ultimate secrets of this mysterious and beautiful world.

The video is great.

I would have liked it better if a video celebrating 20 years of Playstation games included games from all the Playstations systems, though.

Yea I decided to focus on the mainline home consoles :( had enough trouble fitting as many of those games in while also fitting with the music. The official anniversary video had more games stuffed into it. You should check that one out.

Nice Lineup... i see SNK Playmore in there so maybe therw will be a new KOF or Metal Slug announcement.

I do want to hear more about the order though... so i hope it delivers and this event.

Would anyone actually give a shit about Crash Bandicoot anymore? I was under the impression that the Activision produced Crash games were largely poorly received by everyone, which would seem to be borne out by the fact there hasn't been a new one in... what? 7 years?

Why would Sony want to buy the rights to an IP so thoroughly run into the ground?
