Something else to do with your copy of Megaman X Collection

Barebones Challenge!

MMX games provide all sorts of items and powerups to find and collect, but once you've done all that and beaten the game... they all seem to get a tad easy. The solution is to shun such things and take on the world using none of that optional stuff.

Beat Megaman X 1, 2, 3, or 4 using nothing but the normal X-Buster for the entire game, getting no capsule upgrades, collecting no heart tanks, and carrying no reserve tanks. Just default barebones equipment.

Additional terms:

Megaman X1 - If completing a stage affects another, complete the affected stage first. Enter Chill Penguin's stage only when all other bosses are defeated, but dash is allowed when acquired as is X-Buster upgrade when forced on you later.

Megaman X2 - Do not defeat all 3 X-Hunters in mid-stage fights.

Megaman X3 - No Zero use. No armors or chips either!

Megaman X4 - Play as X. The game forces you to use your flame weapon against Reaper Sigma, so it's an exception.

I will guarantee all four games are entirely possible to beat this way. You can go for it on X5 or X6 if you like but I haven't tested those.
Or perhaps MHX, but that game sucks.

I will need at least two spare controllers for that challenge because I know at least one controller is going to meet the wall.

I just started playing my copy of MMXC a few days ago... and I'm so happy it works properly on my GameCube.

(The box says "remixed music" -- is that hidden somewhere?)

Dude. My grandmother can beat X5 with just the X-Buster on a single life!
Aside from the Yellow Devil, that game was easy.

Haha, I had to deal with my right thumb tensing up at times due to my constant mangling getting X around the way I wanted.

Only if you consider the 32bit version of MMX3 "remixed music". The rest was pulled because SOMEBODY thought it would be more worthwhile on the piece of crap PSP remakes.

Ok, after finally getting to playing Megaman X5 using Vanilla X(you have to beat the very first stage with Zero to use him).... I'll say this much...

YOU HAVE NO FUCKING CLUE.

I can obviously see how X5 can be extremely easy, as it basically hands you all sorts of powerups and upgrades, but it becomes an entirely different game when you turn down all life upgrades(select Weapons and Energy), don't use any parts, don't collect any reserve tanks, and use no weapons(not even the Plasma Shot X-Buster).

The submarine in the water stage is fiendishly hard and the Sigma stages hark back to the NES days when Capcom and devs in general could be total fucking bastards. Right now I'm stuck at the boss marathon room where everyone has a super-long health bar. I've beaten the Glowfly, I know I can beat the Whale and Dinosaur. The Rose guy I'm working on being able to not trade hits... but the biggest son of a bitch is the Squid. I've fought him probably over 50 times now and the best I've managed was a Double KO. It's fortunate that Capcom basically made using continues an infinite-lives option and lets you keep progress AND let you save beaten Sigma stages, or I'd probably throw my controller into my TV screen. :(

All that being said, the Bear and Bat bosses are still super-easy. Aside from the pure frustration that are the Sigma stages and the obvious X4 rehashing, I like X5 a lot this way... although I wish Alia would shut up.

Oh yeah, as a test of zsnes's movie dump feature...

I've gotten to the endboss in megaman X in my replay and I cannot beat the son of a bitch and I'm officially over the stupid game!!! Going to smelt the disc and make a scultpture or something.

4 energy tanks.

beat the dog
beat the sigma man

and tried to beat the robot form and its just freaking impossible. I don't know how I did it in the past but I got so frustrated with losing all the energy tanks and still dying I turned it off. I've since attempted this 4 times (+ replaying all the pre boss stages that are a typical endgame for a megaman game). Last time, I read a faq. STILL DIED.

MOTHEFUCKA.

well, this thread's suggestion on hardcore play is WACK!!!
