Sonic CD Developer Diary, game comes out Dec 14th for $5/400MSP

I hope if this port does well they'll port over a thing that combines Sonic 1, 2, and 3+K as one continuous game.

please port classic arcade Sega Rally next.

one of the most downloaded racing roms, the game is obviously still popular.

cheap and easy port that could be sold for $9.99 and would probably get very decent sales similar to Daytona USA which I assume was profitable.

400 points?!?!?!

I honestly thought with all the new adjustments and Tails as a playable character it would be closer to 800 points, but this is a steal.

Can't wait to play this tomorrow!

£3.59? Well that's a surprise. After hearing the JP opening and ending themes have been replaced by rubbish instrumental remixes I didn't plan to buy it, but at that price I'd be foolish not to.

I liked the time travel aspect of CD, but the levels aren't as well constructed as the ones found in Sonic 2/3/Knuckles. However, Sonic CD was perhaps more about actual platform gameplay instead of rushing through the stages.

The original spin dash gameplay was kind of questionable after what we got in Sonic 2, and with the absence of Tails probably gave away that Sonic CD was not being developed after Sonic 2.

Still, CD is my favourite Sonic game. Its because it was the most unique Sonic game and I owned a Sega CD.

Looks like I was correct with my guess the other day that it'll be this week for EU PSN and next for US PSN.

Do you think MS paid for 1 week US exclusivity? There was suspicious happenings with Outrun not being released in the US PSN at all and I believe that was a strong contender as time went on, as there was no other possible explanation.

I've been counting down the days and almost every few hours awake looked for updates/rumours on the date, and I have to wait another week because I live in the US?
Haha, fuck that. Thank goodness I have around 7 euros on my UK account!

The level design is my biggest problem with Sonic CD, but 16:9 might make it a little easier to navigate. Does this game have PSN trophies?

What a pleasant surprise after charging $15 for Sonic 4. Bought.

Between the fantastic Colors and Generations, and the $5 price tag for Sonic CD, Sega's momentum is pretty strong with this franchise. Keep it up.
But Ken Balough said that he will tell us something about Sonic 4 Episode 2 when Sonic CD is released! Do you not want to know what this important bit is? :O

LOL

Yes.

Achievement list is likely going to be identical to the Trophy list. (Possible spoilers in the link, obviously)

I'm so buying this tomorrow!!! That's just perfect, the only thing I need now is a HD release of Daytona USA!!

Wait...:D!!!

Great year for SEGA!

The Taxman said on the Sonic Retro forum that the Steam version hasn't been cancelled.

We know it's coming along with Sonic 4, we just have no idea when. If Sega wants to troll us hard, they could release Sonic 4 tomorrow and make us wait a month for Sonic CD. I think I could respect that.

I actually do want to see what they've done with Sonic 4 ep 2. There were parts of ep 1 that I genuinely had fun playing.

where do people generally rank CD in the Sonic series?

I was always under the impression that it was one of the best, but the announcement thread had a few vocal detractors.

Opinions are divided about Sonic CD. Whether you personally rate Sonic CD above or below the original Genesis cartridges, remember it's still a 2D Sonic game made in the 90s so that alone puts it above most other Sonic games

You can't really speed through the levels like you can in Sonic 3, and Sonic 2. Building up speed in Sonic CD lets you time travel, so the levels are designed to prevent you from doing that easily.

I NEED it on the PC. I want to play this with my USB Saturn controller(don't have PS3).

Come-on SEGA release it on Steam ASAP.

They've probably added a new ending where Sonic's eyes turn green and he homing attacks from the Little Planet to Splash Hill.

This is cheaper than expected. Will buy.

Wow - saw lots of nice new graphics effects in that video. Special stage now scales and rotates smoothly - as do the UFOS.

Also, Robotnicks final form has the rotation of the wings now, instead of a sprite animation.

Very impressed.

Worth the 5.

I wonder whats with the PS3 NA hold up...

So I can either figure out how to buy the EU version for my NA PS3, or just play with the 360 pad tomorrow...

I might just go with 360, ended up going with that for Bionic Commando R / Hard Corps, and it wasnt that bad...

Well if you must buy these types of games on 360, at least get one of the SFIV Fightpads by Mad Catz.
It's what I use for Hard Corps and it's MUCH better than the PS3 DualShock3.

Wasn't it supposed to come out on Android first? It has been out for a month on Gamestop bought tablets but not on the actual Market.

No, I believe the game was supposed to come packaged with Android tablets bought through Gamestop.

They've at least had demos for the game at the stores since late November.

nope. you're not thinking of minecraft pocket edition are you?
Nope, I must be going crazy. Could have sworn I saw "coming to Android market first" somewhere. Though that could have been someone's interpretation of the gamestop tablets getting it first.

Loved Sonic 1 and 2. The series basically just died to me after that. Looking forward to getting that old-school Sonic back. Sonic 4 iOS was fairly horrendous.

When did Sega get so awesome again?

When a fan basically created an engine that didn't suck which could run a sonic game on multiple devices at a higher quality.

What about Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Triple Trouble? :O O: :O

And yeah, Sonic 4 was horrible, period. lol

Somewhere around the time they announced an Arcade perfect port of Daytona USA.

I really would have accepted 800 points. 1200 would have been pushing it, but I'd probably have paid.

400 is such a no brainer that anyone who asks if they should buy it can just hand over whatever gaming devices they have and find another hobby.

My brother actually got a Sega CD and Sonic CD for Christmas the year it came out, and I do remember playing it, but that was like 15 years ago or whatever.

It's the BEST Sonic game as far as i'm concerned
