Sonic Collection 2 -- Cube Exclusive

If Sonic Mega collection had been on the PS2 for 2 to 3 year, bet it's sales would be just as high as the Gamecube version.

Yea, but even so, it'll have a MUCH better sell-through ratio on the GC because of the drastic difference in userbase.

So even if they sell the same over time, it still shows that as a ratio, the Sonic fanbase is larger on the GC vs non-Sonic fans on the PS2. Which makes releaseing Sonic games on the GC as an exclusive or time-exclusive makes sense becuase it'll have a better initial shipment-sales because the fanbase is stronger.

just listing numbers like that gives semi false information for a decent comparison. The Gamecube Sonic Mega Collection has been out for 2 to 3 years. So the Gamecube version has had time to accummlate those sales. The Ps2 version has only been out since December, and those are good numbers for a budget release title that was released in December of 2004. If Sonic Mega collection had been on the PS2 for 2 to 3 year, bet it's sales would be just as high as the Gamecube version.

IIRC after the PS2 versions sales settled down the Gamecube version started outselling it on a monthly basis so even if they were released at the same time the GC version would have probably still sold more in the long run.

Sonic Heroes came out just a few weeks earlier on the Gamecube and sold significantly better than the PS2 version, correct? It's pretty clear that the largest Sonic fanbase is on the Cube, in part because Sonic games showed up on Gamecube first, and in part because the userbase is more receptive to platformers with retro characters.

Anyhow, Sonic is big enough that it should be on all the consoles, with no more than timed exclusives.

What about Sonic Triple Trouble???
Sonic Triple Trouble is a Game Gear game, and it's on Sonic Adventure DX with all the rest. One of my favorites, actually. I miss the spring and rocket boots.

I Think If thier is a Sonic Mega collection 2, that at best the Gaemcube will get a timed exclusive, but I see a Sonic Mega Collection2 going to PS2 later. Hell, knowing Sega they will release a limted number of copies to X-box.
How's this?

Sonic Mega Collection + (PS2, Xbox) : released December 2004
Total US sales = PS2 - 353,659
----------------- XBOX - 204,294

Sonic Mega Collection (GC) : released November 2002
Total US sales = 903,086
Total US sales since Dec. '04 = 223,178

Right, here's what I want:

Sonic CD
Sonic the Fighters
Segasonic Arcade
Sonic 3D Blast (the Saturn version)
Sonic R
Knuckles Chaotix
Sonic Shuffle

Chances of that given that Sonic CD was hard enough a port for them = 0
Seriously, how fucking hard is it to port these to current consoles.
And why this is a GC exclusive is beyond me.

I think the answer lies somewhere in here:
Code:
Nintendo Gamecube | Total |
----------------------------+---------+
SONIC ADVENTURE 2 BATTLE |1,126,074|
SONIC MEGA COLLECTION | 903,086 |
SONIC ADVENTURE DX | 543,583 |
SONIC HEROES | 499,915 |
----------------------------+---------+
Microsoft Xbox | Total |
----------------------------+---------+
SONIC MEGA COLLECTION PLUS | 204,294 |
SONIC HEROES | 160,859 |
----------------------------+---------+
Sony Playstation 2 | Total |
----------------------------+---------+
SONIC MEGA COLLECTION PLUS | 353,659 |
SONIC HEROES | 340,615 |
SEGA SUPERSTARS | 54,259 |
It's not really that hard to understand. The biggest surprise was that today's Sega didn't decide to make it an Xbox exclusive.

Finally Sonic CD after all these years? Awesome game, just make sure comes with japanese soundtrack, it doubles experience :)

Hopefully it'll have BOTH soundtracks, and allow people to pick. Since they can't really redbook the audio, they're already going to have to do some tweaking to get the music to work, so it shouldn't be too much work to allow the soundtrack toggle. (Dreaming: Allowing the option to pick between the Japanese and US music for each CD track being emulated, making your own hybrid soundtrack of what you prefer.)

I don't know, though. People are certainly asking for a lot to be crammed onto a 1.5 Gig disc. Maybe they could dual-disc, but that ups the costs, and retro discs are ultimately a money making venture, not just something to "thank" the fans.

At least this explains why in the long version of the original "Shadow the Hedgehog" trailer (the reel of old Sonic games shown at the Walk of Game) that Sonic the Fighters had an "interface" screen like a normal to-home fighter conversion. Many people thought Sega had goofed and shown footage from a WIP Saturn conversion. (Which was muttered about at one point.)

Wf we were discussing PS2 and GC games sales in a hypothetical way then you'd be right. But I'm speaking purely from a business standpoint here. Sega know they can sell great numbers on GC so as I said its the sensible thing to do to focus on GC first. Its certainly far more sensible then Namco releasing Soul Calibur 3 exclusivley on PS2 when the GC version of SC2 sold quite a bit better then the PS2 version :) I agree Mega Collection 2 will come out eventually on the other consoles, or at least PS2.

What's the Garfield connection exactly?

I don't know this for sure, but I'm assuming Garfield is connected in the same way Comix Zone and The Ooze are; developed by STI, who also developed Sonic Spinball.

the music would take a hit.

"SEGA STOOOOCK RACIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING!"

just doesn't have the same ring to it.
I was thinking the EXACT same thing.
"What about the theme song, man!"

Every time I drive in my car, I have Sonic CD music (Both Japanese and English) play in my car.

I am not kidding.

Anyway, something tells me there wont be a lot of extra content if they wish to stuff all these games onto one CD. Unless they do some actual compression.

Of course for Sonic CD and Chaotix, they can just use Gens the Genesis, Sega CD, 32X emulator. In fact, I'm quite sure thats whats used in Chaotix, I remember hearing identical sound problems between the two.

If that was indeed the GCN version of Mega Collection 2/Fighters running, I dont quite see why Sonic Heroes was using the PS2 version

I really doubt its GCN exclusive. It may come out in America FIRST on Gamecube, but we should just wait and see.

They better shoot for a christmas release, hopefully, it shouldnt have to go through the limbo Mega Man Anniversary Collection had.

If this is a real product, and not just another phantasmical rumor, let's all be sure to stop by Sega's booth at e3 and mention how much we'd like to see the U.S. version come with The Ooze and Comic Zone (given that they weren't in the USA GC Sonic Mega Collection).

... or we could mention how much we'd like to see Vectorman, which was originally intended for SMC and much better than those two.

Comix Zone was a really visually striking game, but the control was deficient and gameplay unrewarding. Then again, I haven't played it in eleven years, so...
