Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka has told fans not to expect remakes of classic entries in the Sonic Adventure series anytime soon

Speaking in a recent interview with Shack News, Iizuka, who directed both Dreamcast Sonic Adventure games, was asked about the possibility of bringing the series back as remakes or remasters, but said that he'd rather put the energy required into making entirely new titles.

"I am really appreciative of everyone who likes the Sonic Adventure series, but when I think about what it would take to bring that game up to the standards and expectations of what the modern gaming audience would want, I think it would be about as much time and energy as it would to make a new title," he said.

"So part of me is thinking maybe I should just make a brand new title and that's why there are currently no plans."

VGC previously asked Iizuka in 2022 if he had any desire to continue the Sonic Adventure series with a potential third game. At the time, he said there were no such plans, but he did confirm a desire to one day revisit the series.

"In the future, yes, Sonic Adventure 3 is there as an idea that at some point it would be cool to maybe explore, but that's not part of the plan and that's not what I'm doing. It's all about Frontiers [right now] and we have no plans for Sonic Adventure 3 at this point. I just want to be clear with everyone!

"But yeah, as somebody who made Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, it is on my mind as some idea that I could potentially think about in the future."

He's right about that, but it would make many fans happy. I would also expect a sales boost from the nostalgia factor.

I don't remember ever expecting them to do it lol
These games need to remain dead, they were subproducts of that time.
Takashi is a crazy old ass bastard, he needs to retire already.

I grew up with the classic 2D sonics and I still stand that the Adventure games are the best in the series, come and fight me.

I long since gave up and put DC emulator on a Switch so I could move on to port begging/dreaming something else. Let's face it, nothing they do will scratch the itch the same as the original DC version anyway, so this is probably the best I will ever get even if they wanted to.

Yeah, it was right time, right place and good for its time to boot. Not to mention way ahead of the curve in graphics. DC emulator is best, but PC mods makes it even better.

Yeah I've played it on PC with conversion mods but like so many other games, my go-to way to play it has become Switch.

DC emulator isn't better than real DC on a CRT tho

Serious question, do people like the Sonic Adventure games? Are they well regarded? Because even back when they were new I thought they were embarrassingly bad.

I personally love them, and if you do grab the PC ports, you mod them to make closer to their Dreamcast releases. For example, Sonic Adventure has a Dreamcast conversion mod that allows you to play the game with the original models and lighting system that the Dreamcast used. All the while giving you the modern PC touches like higher frame rates. It's the best way to play the games.

Maybe I will go fire them up on the Series X. It's been collecting dust for months as there's nothing I have wanted to play on it. But this might not be a bad time since I started playing Sonic Colors for the PS4.

Is THIS a serious question? It was highly reviewed at the time. Did you not read reviews in magazines?

OK, interesting! No thanks, I think the games are utter and complete shit.

I don't remember the reviews, it was so long ago. Anyway I'm not talking about reviews now, but what gamers thought/think 🙂
They were well regarded by critics and gamers. How you view them now might be different, like many platformers of the era. 90s-early 2000s 3D platformers were very rough around the edges and didn't hold your hand like today.

Takashi Iizuka is the last of the devs who almost bankrupted Sega who still works there. Incompetent guy.
when he gets fired there will be a Dreamcast 2

Let the fans decomp the old crap. Or Sega could just straight up give them the source for non-profit use like ID Software did with a bunch of games.

Thanks, I know what 3D platformers were like.

Like I said, I though they were abysmal trash games when they were new even.. And that they have aged like milk. Anyway that's just my opinion, I wanted to know what people I general think/thought 🙂

I love SA2:Battle despite all its flaws but it's one of those remasters that would require so many modern changes it would be a new game in the end.

IMO they should build from Frontiers' gameplay and make a new adventure-style Sonic out of it, to go along the movies.

Men, I say just give it the Crash/Spyro treatment. New graphics on top but fix some bugs and a few QOL changes.

Good. I don't know who needs to hear this but there has never REALLY been a Sonic game good enough to make me want a remaster of it. The dreamcast sonic is the best one in my memory.

People shit on remasters but the game has to be a banger first. I will never complain about a Bloodborne remaster for example. What sonic game are we wanting remastered here? I'll wait.

Maybe keep working on new ideas and create a classic for us that we can remake in a few years.

We don't need remake for those games

Maybe a well built remaster that Big the Cat is just a extra... but we need Sonic Adventure 3, and that's for sure

Good sick of sonic after sonic game from sega, sega needs to remember that it use to have the best arcades out there and other ips that wernt sonic and bring some of them back, how about a arcades classics there loads of sega arcades that didnt get a home release that id take now
