'Sonic the Hedgehog 3' First Social Media Reactions

Nah, I would prefer take my own judgement. Not that Sonic movies weren't good or anything, but I would tone down the overglorification alot. "Legendary", lol right

Regardless of praise or slander, this matters the most:

...this third film feels like it’s aimed at young adults with its story and tone although the jokes never fail to find their place for the younger audience.

It means that the director/writers are properly keeping up with the shift in tone from the Genesis/Saturn games to the Dreamcast/Gamecube games.

But then shouldn’t that mean the quality perpetually keeps going down?

The only difference between Sonic and nearly every other cartoon in the early 2000s that suddenly shifted to a more serious tone is that Sonic didn't have the best writers to handle the transition. We will see if they handle it better this time around.

I really enjoyed the first two but I don’t give any weight to these early bullshit impressions especially when they say stuff like “it’s the best Sonic movie EVER!!”

WTF there are only 2 others, it’s not like there is some long history of Sonic movies.

Disappointing. My 6 year old nephew loves Sonic, but I'm not sure about taking him to a film that is aimed at young adults. I guess as long as there is no full blown adult content then it should be fine, but that tweet has filled me with some doubts. I'm not expecting hard-core sex and blood, but making it aimed at young adults might make it boring for young children.

Why have they done this? This is Sonic, FFS. It should be aimed at young children only. Who the fuck makes a Sonic film aimed at young adults?

Sonic as of Adventure always leaned towards young adults. Adventure 2 in particular always felt like it was for 13-17 year olds. Don't take the quote so literally, your nephew will love it.

If it's Sonic for young adults then it's pretty much the same thing without being able to pull a fast one on the audience with a load of filler wedding scenes?

It's sonic with Jim Carrey. All your kids and nephews will be fine.

The hentai scene in the 3rd act that goes after Dr robotnic is a little dicey though. Might wanna read them the Dream of the Fishermans Wife to get them up to date. There's even pictures to help them understand the story

Are you telling me that they will finally confirm that Eggman and Dr. Robotnik are not the same person, but related!?

I've always had this theory, even though I know it's originally just a localization situation.

I haven't seen any of the movies, so I've no idea who the guy on the right should be.

I don't see why not, as Eggman and Robotnik are suppose to have two different personalities. Their both evil, but one is suppose to be sinister, while the other is goofy.

No, Eggman and Robotnik are one and the same. The one we’ve been following since the first movie is Dr. Ivo “Eggman” Robotnik, and the person on the right is his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. This is following the storyline of the Sonic Adventure 2 video game but changing it so Gerald is still alive in the present (whereas in the game he dies in a flashback).

Thank you.
I've been out of the loop, so long.

Taking my son to Sonic 3 now. My daughter is having a party at the house so I took him to see Sonic. Currently watching commercials. Missing college football playoffs but slathering my body in chili dogs.

Saw a morning showing and thought this was a legit good film, I'd rate the first movies maybe a 5 or 6, and this is easily a 7 or an 8. For young ones it's pretty packed, lots of funny jokes, plenty of action sequences, not a lot of downtime or exposition dumps, they hit the ground running with Shadow. Better than the two xmas movies Disney has put out this year.

For older folk, you get a lot of classic Jim Carrey; his best performance out of the three, even if they do dial it up so high at times you wonder what the fuck you are even watching and take a look around the cinema just to make sure other people are seeing this too.

Only real complaints are that the music is mostly needle-drops of weirdly random tracks from the 00's, and that Sonic makes a lot of quips that just feel a bit forced and go against the darker tone of the film, like when your watching an epic UFC fight and that one commentator suddenly reels off one of those sponsor messages.

Quite nervous about 4 given how this one ends.

Just got back from it, we were literally the only people in the theater. Kinda weird, but honestly the movie was fun. Keanu was a surprise, really stole every scene, and Elba's Knuckles is always fun too. The human scenes feel unnecessary still, and some of the sillier scenes feel almost too silly if that makes sense, but I think it was a genuinely good family film, and my daughter loved it, but note that she's super into Sonic.
Overall, I'd give it a strong 4/5, it's a charming movie.

I'm tempted to see this movie and Nosferatu back to back on New Years Eve. Huge fan of the Sonic films and of Robert Eggers 👀

Due to a surgery my brother-in-law had (nothing serious, the procedure went fine, he just needs some time to fully recover so he, my sister, and their kids can drive down as they’re 2.5 hours away from most of our family), I won’t be doing anything Christmas-related with the family until early January, so my Christmas Day is free, so I’m totally seeing Nosferatu on its opening day.

Sonic 3 was really fun, the best one in the series yet IMHO.

For those who saw this already, was the tone pretty consistent with the first two movies or did they tone it down a little bit given the more serious shadow storyline? I understand it's still a kids movie and isn't gonna be like, shadow/06, but I often feel the first two were a little overboard with the cringe childish humor.

Actually there is more wacky humor then before but it still works.

They try to do both, to the extent that they basically made two different movies with wildly different tones: the "Jim Carrey" side of the movie is non-stop slapstick hijinks, while the "Sonic & Shadow" side is more emotionally resonant and serious. I found myself wishing there was less of the former, though I still ended up liking the movie overall, mostly because the third act is absolutely incredible.

Thanks for the response! Been getting mixed signals from the reviews.

Trying to find a time to go see it, but it's difficult the week of Christmas!
