Hi Guys,

I've bought the HDR-CX360E. I didn't know it wasn't Mac compatible.. How can I import vids on my Mac. and not via iMovie coz that thing sucks (I don't know how to use it)

I wish I could just plug it and import to iPhoto. Please tell me there's a way to do that

You CAN use the Sony HDR-CX360 with a Mac and iMovie. The intial setup took just a little looking around, but it works beautifully. Here's the steps:

Connect Camcorder via USB, open screen to power on, goto play mode
Click Menu, Setup, scroll down to USB Connect
2 disks should mount on your desktop, open iMovie and it will detect your camera
Import and you're done.

Wasn't really that hard at all. As a bonus, the 2nd disk that mounts has a mac application on it that will import your movies as well, in case iMovie won't. Plus it will let you share it online on Facebook and stuff like that.

iMovie is easy and pretty awesome again with '11. Learn to use it.

I have a full Adobe Suite and both Final Cuts, and I still find myself using iMovie '11 for a lot of stuff. It became my go-to quick-and-easy software during the NBA Playoffs when I was making animated Mavericks .gifs like a madman.

If nothing else is working you can always export things out of iMovie so you can play with it in other apps.

I guess the only way is to get used to iMovie.. I also tried this mac app thing, and it won't save the videos, it asks me to use iMovie to import

iMovie does import them as single files, you just need to find the project folder on your mac where it stores the files.

FANTASTIC!!! I didn't know that..

Another very very very weird problem.. I tried importing two short clips from the iMovie folder to iPhoto, and one of them seems to get squeezed to 4:3 aspect ratio!!! but if I play it from the iMovie folder directly it plays fine!

Any idea?

EDIT: I tried importing it few times everytime its the same!

Ok I've been playing with iMovie and I don't like it at all..

First I had to create a project, which makes me choose from 25 fps or 30fps.. My vids are shot in a higher fps!

Then I selected one of the folders (I think it separated the events by the date the clip was shot) I chose "Day 2"

Then I had to manually select all the frames and drag them to the "Project" and then I selected "Export Movie" where I can choose the resolution of the movie. I chose 1080p because thats what the raw clip was shot at.

Now it's taking around 2 hours to export it!!!! you're talking about a few minutes clip..


Is there any easier way? my Kodak Zi8 beats the shit out of this Sony handycam when it comes to ease of use.. plug>detected by iPhoto>import = heaven

Guys, please tell me I didn't waste my money on this cam .. I really hope there's a better way to do this!

UPDATE: I've dusted out an old Windows laptop.. would that make things easier? I haven't tried it yet
