Sony has to pick up the slack

They need another exclusive, we know they have Spider-Man, GT8 and god of war outside of that there aren't many games, Sony late ps3, ps4 was automatic with exclusives and was on fire.
FF7 rebirth part 2, got death stranding 2, and also ghost 2 later this year.

Nice burner account attempt at a weekend live thread. Give it a 0/10 like the number of exclusives that Xbox has for console.

Something made by Naughty Dog for example? It's your lucky day...

This is what happens when you have no competition in the console space at your level of performance. They can rest on their laurels. Will be worse next generation.

They needed to pick the slack since 2023, and we got nothing. Forget this generation, it's as if the ps5 was never released. The only game i am interested from them is the next GoW (which might be a 2028 game for all we know), but unless its written by Cory Barlog, it's gonna be yet another evengers style dei shitfest so my expectations are low even for GoW.

This while gen gas been a fuck up by bith MS and Sony, the latter benefits that it's incompetence is nothing compared to Xbox Management.

Sony doesn't have to do shit just because some people on the internet want it. Sony would do perfectly fine even if they wouldn't release any more first party games. What are the alternatives if you don't want a pc or a much weaker Switch? Exactly, there are none.

Really? Ghost of Yotei is this year along with Death Stranding 2 next month…I swear people selectively forget the exclusives they have… Phantom Blade Zero, Lost Soul Aside just off the top of my head. PBZ looks insanely fun and all the demo impressions were great so thats going to be a solid Soulsy action game for them. Like what more do you want exactly? DS2 looks like GOTY more and more, Ghost 2 is gonna be amazing (fuck you naysaying haters)…They arent short of exclusives.

Anyone that defends Sonys output this generation should lose their account immediately. Even the biggest Sony fanboy can't be happy with their output this generation

I do not think they need exclusives. They just need good games. Xbox has pretty much tapped out as far as console competition for the rest of this generation so most console gamers will be playing on PS5 exclusive or not.

In terms of how it affects sales it really seems like it doesn't matter anymore.

In terms of "do I have stuff to play" I am more than satisfied.

But I do agree in my heart, I want more first party games that truly push the console to its limits, and the last couple of years have been disastrous from this perspective. I love the PS5 hardware capabilities but there's no doubt this is the weakest gen from an exclusives perspective.

They virtually have exclusive control over a segment of the market now so in a weird way it's better that they let third parties get their chance to shine to keep that pipeline attractive.

If I was Sony I would focus instead on quality over quantity. If you're going to put out 2-3 titles a year, make them "must owns".

She is so much better than bella in season 2... but she is stil punchable and annoying.
The only way for Naughty dog to SURVIVE is to ditch her and ditch the woke. They still have time. They can fire her and make some other character

Death Stranding 2 is literally coming out next month.
Unfortunately Sony doesn't own the Death Stranding IP anymore. Koji Pro was able to wrest full rights to it away from Sony and the first game is coming to Xbox.

The 2nd one is just a timed exclusive as well at this point and can no longer be called a 1st or even 2nd party game.

This is what happens when a company puts so many eggs on the GaaS basket.
Now all we have is a bunch of rotten, stinking eggs.

Yeah but the difference is Xbox releases loads of mid quality 'exclusives' not worth bragging about. Avowed was fucking garbage though.
80+ used to be a very good score in the past. Today many people sadly only consider 90+ worth playing and call 80+ games Game Pass filler trash, mid or garbage. Mostly without even trying them.

This is why they can afford to keep rolling the dice on GaaS projects. They are already making a fortune collecting 30% on all the GaaS on their platform. It's worth it to try and get one of your own. Valve has no competition, and they control DOTA and Counter Strike. If everyone up and left Steam they would still have millions of counter strike and DOTA players to fall back on. If all the big GaaS games left Sony they would be left holding the bag with nothing. No real point in making 300M games that will make less profit than 1 month of Fortnite, when there is nowhere else to turn if you want a $500 console to plug in the TV.

I think some people struggle with the reality that Sony only has like 10 studios making new single-player character adventure games.

With games taking at least 5 years to develop, that gives you 2 games per year on average.

If you extend that to 6 years of development time, that gives you 1.67 games per year. That's not to even account for games getting cancelled because they aren't working out or the market conditions change.

So the only realistic way for Sony to significantly expand on that is to publish 3rd party games or 2nd party games or whatever you want to call them. The problem here is that people ignore these games largely and they don't count them.

Other things you can do are release remakes and remasters or smaller-sized games, but people also don't generally want to count these.

What people here also won't mention is that Sony is better at this than any other company in the business. There might be individual studios as good as individual Sony studios, but no one is making more AAA games and better AAA games.

Avowed could arguably be best exclusive on any console this year.

I mean, Death Stranding 2 is a competitor.
Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Banaza are coming out this year. Oblivion Remastered also came out from XGS.

Avowed is a mid-tier video game.

I'll go a step further in my assessment of people.

I think people feel like Sony should be using the money they're making to invest more in single player games and maybe there is some credence to that. All that money that was invested in live service could have been invested in single player games, but there IS a problem with that.

Single player games are high risk low reward and most people (not gamers) understand that you have to create a diverse risk pool. The more single player games you make the more those games are compared to each other and the more that they're going to compete with each other and there is generally a ceiling on these games and how much they sell. Even their most successful games sell to a fraction of the overall playerbase.

It made sense to invest in live service as the industry i.e. consumers are moving towards that model. The only thing that to me, didn't make sense was their execution on it. Sony just doesn't have the DNA for live service games and they've forgotten their multiplayer legacy because it smells like PS3 and anything that smells like PS3 is bad to sony.

This.

Bunching releases together like MS has been doing is in my opinion even worse because its so wasteful. Sure it gets the platform loyalists a bit hyped-up when there's a flurry of noteworthy titles, but that doesn't mean that its going to be a constant going forward. Those studios have shot their bolt and now we get to wait a few years before they are ready to follow-up.

The worst part of all is that they are pretty careless handling product that isn't their own; Expedition 33 for example: 6 years in development only to be unceremoniously dumped on GamePass practically simultaneously with the Oblivion remaster.

The thing these people myopically focussed on strictly first-party output miss is that the best possible outcome for a third party developer is to get the first-party "red-carpet" roll-out. As in not having their launch impact diluted by additional competition!

What a crazy response.

Where did I say that Sony could make the best selling console off the strength of their first party?

Do you think Sony and Nintendo make the same type of games?

So Sony is better at this than anyone else in the business…. except their direct competitor who sells way more games, makes way more games, and has infinitely more popular IPs. Lmao.

Exactly. I'll never understand why people root for Microsoft to fail. Or even big third parties.

In a perfect world, ALL video game companies are creating quality software/hardware, giving consumers more options, and staying competitive.

I'll openly admit I'm a fanboy. I'm just a fanboy of all four platforms.
