Sony: Here's an idea

I have solved all your problems with Immersion: (about that 80+mil...uh...you're still fucked :b)

You don't want to use rumble in your controllers without paying royalties up the ass? Get someone who already does:

Let Logitech use these controllers as a model for your PS3 pad, because let's face it...we all know Sony isn't going to suprise anyone with new DS3 features

All they would need to do is make sure that they:
Swap the D-Pad and Left Analog stick for all the whiny bitches, but keep the DS D-Pad
Allow four controllers to be used without a multi-tap like device...or be innovative and allow FIVE!! :b
Release a cradle for the controllers, either as an accessory or included

eh?

I'd rather have the D-Pad in the pic above than the D-Pad with the gaps in between...I can't play fighting games worth a shit on a dual shock (yeah yeah I know, arcade stick...)

I would actually prefer >>this<< [clicky] D-Pad over any other...though I can easily see how idiot gamers would confuse it with the analog stick

as it stands, it has yet to be matched...yet so few know of its glory

edit: the SNES d-pad is better than all of Nintendo's later ones, but I don't prefer that style of D-Pad over others (except the DC's thumb killer)

PS3 controller should have a trigger button, also Sony should keeps the D-Pad and the analog sticks on their current positions.

Yes
NO

Replacing the R2 and L2 buttons with triggers is a good idea, however, the analog and d-pad need to switch places

The current positions don't bother me at all, same for the swapped position--yet many people find the current positions to be troublesome. I say swap them...not really for myself, but for the hordes of gamers that will complain either way

Doesn't Nintendo have a patent on their D-pad design? I think that's why other companies don't use it.

Although the DC did... sorta...

As for the PS3 pad, I hope Sony makes comfort changes, because the GC pad feels like it melts in your hand compared to the PS2's brick-workman-like design. Even the S controller feels more comfortable in your hand than the DS2.

I believe they did, but they allowed it to expire, which is why the DC was able to use a "cross" d-pad. This would also explain why systems prior to the DC were forced to have d-pad designs other than the cross.

Personally, I really like the Genesis-style d-pad; more of a circular lump of plastic that your thumb can tilt at a whim.

The DC dpad was unlike anything that existed. It was actually slightly angled from the base of the pad and it's edges are killer for long fighting game sessions. Too sharp for human hands, in my opinion.

...bad memories...

Hell yes. NGPC mini-stick > *

I would kill for a decent pad with one of those for current/next-gen consoles. It would almost make playing fighters without shelling out for a quality arcade stick bearable.

I often seem to do this: the following quote makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER

Here is what I meant:

Out of all of Nintendo's D-Pads, I prefer the SNES one the most. I, however, greatly prefer the Genny/Xbox, NGPC, and PSX/PS2 style D-Pad over Nintendo's. I especially HATE the thumb killer that is the Dreamcast D-Pad.

Hopefully, that is understandable, this time

All in all, however, the D-Pad isn't an important aspect of the controller to me as all recent ones, with the sole exception of the DC one, have worked well without causing discomfort.

but then they'll have to pay Logitech royalties instead, so how is this a solution?
