Sony Interactive Entertainment has opened its Tokyo Game Show 2025 website and announced its preliminary games lineup for the event, which will run from September 25 to 28 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.

Its lineup of playable games includes:

  • Main Booth
Ghost of Yotei (PS5)
MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls (PS5, PC)

  • Family Game Park
ASTRO BOT (PS5)

The full list of playable titles, schedule for stage events, details on how to reserve a playtime in advance, and merchandise information will be announced at a later date. Stage events will be live streamed on YouTube.

inb4 you know who, last year's preliminary announcement only had 2 games listed, while the full announcement had 12.

Hopefully we'll get some more Lumines Arise footage/info. Seems like a natural fit for Sony's booth since it's a (timed?) console exclusive for the PS5 and Sony announced it at their last State of Play.

Wait, actually, maybe we'll get a release date, since it's currently scheduled for "Fall 2025." There aren't many opportunities left to give us a date.

Sony very much lost the hearts and minds of Japan gamers.
Look at famitsu numbers throughout the years compared to sw1 and sw2.
The same sentences keep repeating over and over.

What made the PS1 and PS2 so great, especially in Japan, where the massive third-party exclusive library.

They lost a considerable amount of exclusive third-party IP's going from the PS2 to the PS3.

Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Armored Core, and many many more.

The decline already started transitioning from the PS2 to the PS3.

This TGS is very crucial for Sony PS. Sony really has to be at there best in this TGS to win back the hearts of there homeland and at least lessen the lead of Switch 1 and Switch 2. It starts by bringing back AA and A exclusives games and more quirky Japanese prefered games. RPG is very much loved genre in Japan so maybe reviving Wild arms, Alundra, Legend of Legaia, Dark cloud, and Legend of Dragoon IP. Platformers are also popular in Japan so Astrobot is a good start so bring back more platformers like Ape escape. And lastly reduce the price of Ps5 and ps5 pro in Japan.

What a disgrace of a line up in 5th year after console launch :messenger_astonished:
I agree. I just hope for some surprise announcement and some teaser for future titles like Stellar blade 2 and Physint. And maybe a surprise announcement about next gen PSP portable which Sony really need in Japan market that prefers handheld or hybrid this days.

To anyone crying about old good Sony, this was their lineup for TGS 2015:

PlayStation 4:
  • Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir
  • Star Wars: Battlefront
  • Street Fighter V
  • Arlan: The Warriors of Legend
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2016
  • Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness
  • Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops III
  • Destiny: The Taken King
  • Tearaway Unfolded
  • The Tomorrow Children
  • Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection
  • Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4
  • God Eater: Resurrection
  • Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven

Even after you post this, they still complain it's only 3 games...

Portables always sold better than home consoles in Japan, Nintendo merged both their home and portable markets in a single device and the Switches had no competition in the portables market.

That's why until now SW1+2 sold 37.8M, over twice of the PS4+PS5 sold 16.5M in Japan. Something that is a rare exception, Japan is barely a 10% of the worldwide market, where PS4+PS5 sold more than SW1+2.

They may have lost them exclusively but a Sony console along with PC are still the only way to play triple AAA Japanese games. A lot of them don't even reach series X and if they do its way later. Majority of these games are still being played on PlayStation consoles exclusivity or not.

Is it bad that I sneezed with laughter seeing that list? What happened to all the 3P deals?

I get they'll announce more games but...three? Better be more, otherwisewhy really be there?

You are not the target audience anymore.

A dangerous game for them to play long-term, we'll see how it works out for 'em.

This isn't true at all. PS5 and Xbox have basically 99% of the same Japanese AAA library this gen, with release date parity. Games we should've expected to be PS exclusive only a gen ago are now also Day 1 on Series S & X, let alone PC.

I don't know what timeline you're living in where you think the bolded still holds true, but time to wake up because that's not what's happening today.

Who cares. They still would rather do anything but an actual showcase.

Who cares about facts? If there's really 13 games and not just these 3, then what's the problem?

What game? If they have the same amount of games as last time, then what's the issue?

The game of acting like they don't have the global infrastructure or resources to cater to multiple regional fanbases & communities simultaneously. I'll never buy the cap that SIE have basically ceased all American public gaming events because they only had enough to choose between that or ChinaJoy, for example.

They're a massive platform holder with 3 decades of industry experience. If they wanted to cater to multiple customer bases at once, they could make way to do so. This extends to older parts of the fanbase with nostalgia for classic IP, too. It shouldn't be a choice between only that or only going after zoomers with GAAS or a bazillion Soulslikes (yet no actual sequel to Bloodborne in sight).

With this, me and you TOTALLY agree on! They are being too restrictive with their global public presence. And this has been the case for the last 2-3 years.
