Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

The best strategy for Sony this holiday is to release Uncharted in July/August and GT Sports in November

With FIFA/COD, surely Assassin's Creed + Red Dead Redemption 2 + Destiny 2 + Battefront 2, there's no place for God of War as an action game

A release date in February or March is better

From the standpoint of known exclusives. This upcoming E3 feels really big. Usually I'm just excited for brand new announcements only. But I'm ready for new footage and release dates.

I like that spot for Uncharted but I'd try and drop GT in August/September, get out ahead of the other blockbusters by a month of two. And yes, let God of War drop like a meteor in February or March next year. This fall is already loaded with major action releases.

Trouble with that date is that that puts it only a few weeks after Shadow of Wardor, and there's a definite overlap with the two.

Which could be good for God of War, as it was for Horizon launching near Zelda. Competition leads to more articles, buzz, discussion etc.

I like february/march better though

I'm sure they'll choose the best spot ;)

I imagine maybe they're shooting for it but not rushing it? And that's why it'll slip in 2018 maybe? Idk just can't see where they put God at. Why release it this holiday from a businessman standpoint (gamer standpoint says release it now plz!!)
I hear that, and not just because GoW usually drops in March. It just sort of feels like the type of mammoth game that would come out during the spring/summer lull and take advantage of the relatively quiet release schedule during that period. It's why I feel like we'll probably see it around this time next year, most likely. But a lot of crazy things have have happened this year, I suppose (see: the stacked release schedule of Q1 as an example).

I always thought The Lost Legacy would be early september but I could see that being august and GOW taking the early sep spot if it's ready

Must. Resist

According to the Lost Legacy writer's now deleted tweet, Aug/Sep is probable.

I feel the same. They probably want it to release in 2017 but if there is even a slight need for a delay, it'll be delayed to spring 2018.

I just think God of War is going to be huge for them. They want to get that promotion ball rolling early.

I think it'd be wise to keep it early (March) 2018 if they can't hit Sept. Since Lost Legacy is probable for that window, I just don't see it happening. As much as I love GOW, I don't think it holds the same weight like it used too where it can hold its own this holiday.

If Gow comes out before dreams :(

Hopefully not lol. I've been waiting on Dreams since forever

Trouble with that date is that that puts it only a few weeks after Shadow of Wardor, and there's a definite overlap with the two.

I don't think that'd be cause for concern. Who is Shadow of Wardor to a God of War? lol

Anyways I think Days Gone should be Sony's top priority. The further down the road the game releases, the closer it is too TLOU II. They'd probably want to avoid that lol.

Something is telling me that Sucker Punch's title is still in (very) early development.

Furthermore, they just hired a lead writer (from Telltale Games) for the project and are now looking for a game writer:

Are you an experienced game writer interested in working on an awesome AAA project in Seattle? #gdc2017 http://bit.ly/2lcIhZJ

Preproduction as of January 2016.

We already know they're behind Bend in terms of progress of the game's state of development so it's not a surprise if the game was to be a late 2018 game or beyond since the earliest DG will be out is late this year.

Yup. Though I think we'll see plenty of new announcements too.

Also, this year I really expect FF7R and KH3 to pull a new back to back in Sony's conference.

Yeah I think Days Gone went into full production January 2015. Sucker Punch was probably when that person left, Jan/feb 2016

What the heck were SP doing after they shipped First Light?, did they have a failed project or something?

Developing sequels is a lot easier than developing new IPs. Remember, TLOU started development in 2009, while Horizon started development in 2011 but those two studios had the benefit of having two teams (even if the initial core teams on those games were small), while Sucker Punch is a one team studio. That's why SP laid off a bunch of people after First Light shipped, including some who'd been at the studio since their Sly days, because they weren't far enough into development to need a team that large.

God of War isn't coming out this year. Sony's big hitters come out in the Feb. to June time period. God of War will be Feb. or March 2018 ala Horizon.

Man, I'd really, really love to play Spider-Man this year but I can't see that game releasing any time before the second half of 2018, if we're fortunate.

So last year between July and December we only had The Last Guardian

What exclusive(s) do you think we will get the second half of 2017?

Knack 2 baby!!
!

Wasn't it E3 2015 where Shu said he had played whatever Sucker Punch was making? I wonder where they are in development.
Yep.

No way the game is very early in development. This is assuming everything is going well, of course.

Uncharted, Knack and Gran Turismo Sport.
