Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Wrong, those assumptions were dismissed by Naughty Dog ages ago. They still have the same structure they used to have, a large team working on their main project and a small team working on prototypes/pre-production for their next project.

E3 2017 for Naughty Dog's next announcement seems like a relatively safe bet to me but who knows. Shit might happen, like it did with Uncharted 4 and SSM's new IP, or Sony might just want to hold off the announcement for longer, like they've done with God of War 4. We'll see.

Not on the creative department tho. And that is essential on the pre prod level. Also having one team in full production and another on pre production is not what ND had before. They had two full creative teams working on different projects, now since Amy and Justin left they have one as far as we know with Bruce and Neil

My guess is that God of War is Sony's big E3 announcement this year and The Last of Us 2 (or whatever ND is working on) is their big E3 reveal in 2017.

....along with Bloodborne 2, please god.

BB2 has to happen right? Miyazaki already set the tone of that universe, Japan Studio plus From secondary team can tackle the sequence. Wasnt The Old Hunters more Japan Studio work than From's?

Have Sony said how much Uncharted 4 cost to make?

Nope, budget talk from any publisher tends to be extremely rare. Last gen for Sony the only confirmed budgets I remember were Uncharted (20m), Uncharted 2 (20m), Heavy Rain (21m), Beyond: Two Souls (27m), God of War 3 (44m), and Gran Turismo 5 (60m).

Yeah I am guessing it is close to the 60 million mark. The marketing campaign alone is the biggest I have ever seen for a Sony 1st party game

UC4 was in development for a long time as well, I can't see the game having cost anything less than 60 million, probably more like 80 million as it's the first number pulled out my arse. I'm not liking the game much but if nothing else, I ain't seem a game with production values like this. When you see the game, that alone makes it obvious that money wasn't an issue when ND made the game.

Time for PD to show what they can do with a huge budget and time as well, waiting for that GT sport reveal is seeming to be very hard. If SP are making a Spider-Man game though, I'm throwing the PS4 into the fucking bin. :/

So do you have a source on all this? Or is it just more speculation? Because Druckmann didn't seem to think it was any different when he talked about it. There's no reason why they couldn't have promoted others into a new second project creative team.

The Uncharted 3 team simply didn't produce quite the same level of quality for whatever reason, good directors are hard to find. Stig didn't survive as a director after he took over Santa Monica.

Anyone else feel like Sony are holding all the cards in the lead up to this E3? There is so much they can potentially showcase during their presser, not just first-party wise but third-party as well. They're exceling so much right now that they've practically got the pick of the litter. I wouldn't be surprised if they've had to do a whole lot of editing in order to fit want they want into those 90 minutes.

Sony usually make a lot of announcements before E3, this isn't happening this time so I think it's safe to say they're saving their card for the conference.

Spider-Man could be really big after Civil War.

When will hear about Uncharted's performance in sales?

If Sony doesn't say anything tomorrow, then we should still get an indication of how big of an increase it was over U3. That had the biggest first week sales for a ND game in the UK at 115k. U4 should blow that out the water.

Have a strong feeling it's going to be some smaller title. The name just doesn't evoke that massive AAA+ quality feeling for some reason.

Everything shinobi has said points toward it being a big AAA title.

That plus it being an open-world game definitely sounds AAA to me.

Luckily Sony has Paris games week and PSX so... no not really.

I'm thinking it's going to be a great but predictable conference this year. Looking at credible rumors, hardware, and dev times, we can make pretty strong guesses that their show will be something like:

- 2 or 3 first party announcements (Probably GOW and Bend)
- First party game updates (Horizon, Dreams, TLG)
- VR launch detailed, a new game or two likely announced
- Third party stuff we'd rather see outside of a PlayStation conference (COD, Watch Dogs 2, Destiny stuff)
- Neo announcement
- Probably 1 or 2 "surprise announcements" like Crash, Persona 5 release date, Resident Evil 7 or something

I'd also be shocked to see a lot of games like Gravity Rush 2, Hot Shots Golf, Ni-Oh, Ni No Kuni, and Detroit outside of sizzle reels. Gran Turismo may not be there in a significant way either considering the event coming this week.

I'm actually counting on Ni No Kuni 2 making an appearence. Hope it happens.

They do have a lot of stuff, but they do have a bunch of trade shows to fill in as well. But yes, I feel like showing GT Sport before E3 is related to them having too much stuff, and trying to get games the best spotlight possible

As do I! The reason I'm not expecting it at E3 is because Sony America rarely gives much time to non-huge Japanese games. It was also announced at PSX which Shuhei has gone on record to say is a fan-servicey show for more niche games and announcements. That tells me they don't see it as a big deal.

I can't believe they haven't announced their conference yet. Seems insane to me. I don't think it's ever been dated this late.

Next time they decide to show Detroit I hope they keep David off the stage so he doesn't babble for minutes about stuff that the audience can see in the goddamn trailer.

I hope they don't show any games they ain't positive will hit before 2018. They got so many games anyway still unreleased plus 3rd party stuff. I love when games have shorter time between announcement and release. Bloodborne and LBP3 were perfect when it comes to Sony titles. Uncharted is the worst.

Think we'll get a GoW4 announcement? Could be that they'll wait for a reveal and hold off on showing a teaser and go straight into a gameplay demo, much like what GG did with Horizon. Don't think a little title teaser, or a CGI teaser, would cut it now. The internet can be quite vile and savage at times and blast a CGI teaser to oblivion and sour the reveal.

I don't expect to see it, everybody else seems to think we will tho so eh.

Where is Verendus when we need him? I want some hints.

I'm too lazy to dig it up, but the last time Verendus really did some hints he said something to the effect that we "knew too much" and basically had enough stuff to keep us busy for the next couple years. So if you want Verendus analysis, go back and look at his older posts for stuff he brought up that hasn't come to fruition yet and see how likely it would be to make an appearance next month.
