Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

James Stevenson swore up and down (on these boards, no less) that Insomniac's relationship with Sony remained strong after the announcement of SO and folks still didn't believe it.

I'd definitely say their relationship was hurt sometime around R&C All 4 One/Resistance 3 (Sony didn't really promote either of them as much as they did Resistance 1/2 or R&C ToD/ACiT, then Insomniac went off to make Overstrike/Fuse with EA) but yeah, the insistence it had completely soured was ridiculous. I wasn't very happy with the quality of their games around that time but still, some people very conveniently ignored that Insomniac continued to work on R&C with Sony from Resistance 3 all the way to Spider-Man now.

Anyway, personally I'd like to see Japan Studio reboot Ape Escape and Sanzaru make Sly 5 but I think that's probably it as far as old series go. I don't really have any interest in Jak & Daxter coming back, unless they're remastering Daxter.

E3 is in four months.. I cant believe it's happening again

Four months. Sheesh, where does the time go. Won't be long until the E3 hype wagon is in full swing again and it still feels like last E3 happened not that long ago.

I bet we'll get the first trailer for Final Fantasy XVI.

"Now in development."

I would love for either a Sly reboot/remake with a budget akin to that of the Ratchet & Clank remake to coincide with the sure-to-be-awful movie (if it's even still a thing), or a continuation of the story with Sly 5 with the usual mid/lower budget vibe. 4 fell short in a few different areas, but it was still a very enjoyable game and definitely better than 3, so I'm very hopeful that another game would also be good.

Yep, this is their time to shine. A new IP to get their name out there.
I love the fact that we have no clue what it is. At this time previous years we knew about Horizon and that Bend was making an open world survival horror game, and I think the Bloodborne leak occurred around this time of the year. But SP nothing aside from that it's a new IP.

I'm sure it will come before E3 but it is nice that it has been almost completely silent since Infamous Second Son and First Light launched.

And open world as well ;)

Personally, I'd like them to only revisit old IPS if it's to tie up any loose ends, give a proper ending to them or if it's an HD remake. Otherwise, I'd rather they invest in new fresh IPs...

E3 week is by far the best time to be on GAF. The hype starts setting in, malevolent insiders tease, never fully reveal their meanings to enjoy our reactions and when the megatons start hitting during the conference. Damn, can't wait for E3 again!

Second Son looked incredible for being a near launch title and still holds up pretty well today. After several years of game + tech development the only question that matters is...

does Sony melt us with the reveal at the start or end of show lmao
.

Also stoked for Dreams. Gimme a release date pleaseeeee.

Personally I really though the open world in Infamous SS felt underutilised and a bit pointless, so I hope they work on that for their next game. They did a pretty good job with Infamous 2, so maybe it was just rushing the game for that launch window.
Superhero open world game has always been a bit distinct compare to other open world games that try to be immersive city like gta.

Second Son open world is more like the spiderman and hulk games. The city is just a big level for you to play around with traversal and combat imo

Someone on GAF randomly mentioned that s/he heard it was a
space game.

Can't remember where that post is anymore, but that's all that was ever mentioned.

Oh god, I hope this is true. I salivate at the thought of a sci-fi game from them (from any high quality dev, really). I need more sci-fi in my games.

Sony is really doing everything so right this gen. They drop a mega exclusive basically whenever they need to, and they always have another one to line up.

Hell, I'm having fun with The Order right now. With a few tweaks in photo mode the image quality is amazing for a PS4 game. And I don't mind that it's short for 10 or 20 bucks.

The problem with The order 1886 shortness is that at release it cost 60 dollars, now it's 10 to 20 and it's not really that big of a deal yet back than it was.

Well, first-party output looks promising, but honestly they've had their share of issues this gen. They've apparently course-corrected, but it's not without its cost.

ND: 2-project team approach worked well for UC3/TLoU, but clearly there was an impact in production/deliverable when Amy Hennig's UC4 had to be "rebooted", effectively putting a halt to any two-project ambition for a good 3 years.

SSM: 2-project team approach kinda failed for SSM. Ascension was not well-recieved as the trilogy, Stig's new IP got cancelled, studio reverted back to one-team with Cory Barlog being brought back to reinvent God of War.

San Diego: MLB is stable and remains super stable, but the F2P ambitions seems to have crashed and failed, with Killstrain.

Guerilla Games: Well, Shadowfall was not recieved as well as Killzone 2/3 under a new director/lead designer as the main team went on to work on Horizon. And it's not clear if there's still a two-project structure at GG, given Hermen being "wink wink" on Steven's current responsibilities at GG.

Sony already super cutthroat this gen, can you imagine if PS4 not doing well? We might have less internal studio.

I don't think Killzone is dead, but I really thought Guerrilla Cambridge was going to take over that IP. It might on extended hiatus now because I'm sure GG is going all in Horizon for the foreseeable future if it is a hit. Is that studio big enough to make 2 AAA games concurrently?

Do you guys think is there any chances to Sly Copper Thieves in Time to be remastered for this gen?
I ve played almost every exclusive I wanted to on PS3 before selling it, but skipped Sly because Ive bought it on Vita.
Now I just realized that I cant finish it on Vita because my "motion controller" ( the things you do turning Vita around ) is broken and its imposible to finish the game because some parts of it are tied to this :(

I'm expecting a new Sony published From Software exclusive to be revealed at E3. It's time.

A reveal at this E3 for a release early next year seems fairly realistic, especially if it's a Bloodborne sequel. I'm nearly finished with Bloodborne and the prospect of a sequel is really exciting (especially if they go all in on
the cosmic horror and eldritch themes
), but on the other hand Miyazaki seems to thrive on creating new stuff, so I'd be happy with a new IP too.

I wonder if he's getting tips and/or ideas for CGI stuff, or whether Weta will be contributing to Death Stranding at all. I think they've done some videogame stuff in the past - without looking it up I want to say Heavenly Sword.

WETA is best & pioneered Motion capture(LOTR,AVATAR) , maybe thats why he was there ,to learn something From them.
