Sony press conference announcements

Very cool trailer, this game won't be ready for a long time (at least not if they take their time like they did with RE4)

Well, didn't RE4 get scrapped twice before turning into the game released for GC? I'd like to think such a development situation is an exception rather than a rule.

Yeah, I can't imagine that happening again...especially with Capcom. RE4 was a new design for them, but now they've nailed it, expect the milking to commence.

I think the problem is that most of those games had literally 15 second clips shown. Some got 30, but none got full "trailers." The music was overlapping between one and the next, they were run so closely together. So it was hard to get "hyped" about any of them. And yeah, those games all look good, but very little "new" was shown PS2 besides Rogue Galaxy. Devil Summoner PS2 looks good tho - basically SMT3, but SMT3 looks awesome. Main guy had a black outfit and a sword.

I guess it's less that the PS2 announcements were "weak" and more than Sony's PS2 showing at this conference was "weak." They have good software, they just chose to ignore it for the most part.

Well, I tend to think it's much like E3. It's a problem inherent in trying to juggle 3 platforms. PS2, PSP, & PS3. Microsoft has dropped the original Xbox and is laser focused on the 360. Everything you hear from them will be 360, all the time.

What's even more disturbing is how Sony can portion out their first party stuff.

1) The PS2 is a guaranteed money maker and Sony needs some profit areas. They can't let this go from a development standpoint, certainly when you consider 3rd parties.

2) The PSP is still a fledgline format and Sony really needs to lead the way to show developers and consumers that the PSP is more than just a PS2 port system.

3) The PS3 is the future of Sony in many ways. The will be caught in an epic battle with Microsoft and they need to fire on all cylinders with the hardware, Blu-Ray, services, and most especially exclusive games (which 1st party is critical).

The big question for Sony is how can you do all 3 effectively. You inevitably have to prioritize and not do as much as you'd like.

Oh by the way, according to Famitsu...

Brain DS Training will get a PSP version!

Obviously it's not made by Nintendo, but by SEGA.

It's, in short, called "Brain Power Trainer Portable"

Super Robot Taisen is also confirmed for PSP, and Metal Gear Acid 2 (naturally).

Both of these titles have yet-to-be-announced release dates.

in my opinion the DS brain training fits perfectly concidering the target audience.

The PSP's target audience won't buy this, then again I could be wrong :)

actually. that look like what Banday showed back in E3, i am impressed

There's either something wrong with the shadow algorythm or the trees are placed in the air.
The floor shadow of the trees do not meet the tree at it's base.

Somethings a bit suspect about that.

Hahahaha. I hope this non-game piece of shit sells several million copies.

i see what you mean. but it still look what they promised in E3. thats my point " or close to what i have seen in E3"

Everyone bitching about this conference not having enough new announcements... do you guys realize that the focus of this particular conference(IIRC) just like last year is the awards given to various titles? This is the Playstation Awards conference(IIRC).

All of this other stuff is extra.

my opinion of the RE5 vid is inline with JackFrosts. It's not to far removed fomr RE4, yet.

The new features such as improved res, smother animation, (obviously) more polys on the character models, more intelligent physics (a piece falls off roof in trailer).

in direct contrast to the RE4 trailer, i think you guys would agree that, while still incredible visuals, i can't see the massive leap between generations.

You seem to have forgotten the most demanding feature: the lighting. It seems like there will be usage of HDR lighting as well as a unified lighting system for global shadows. That's a massive leap from the per-vertex lighting system of RE4...and isn't cheap.

When I said "looks like RE4," I was speaking mostly about the graphical style and gameplay, not the technical prowess. That said, the trailer looked really, really good, but not the huge step Biohazard 4 was over 1-3. Probably the biggest issue was the feather falling without realistic physics. :P Still, at this point, it's practically just concept footage, so I wouldn't draw too much from the details.

And yes, the lighting was good. That's one problem with next-gen games - a lot of these bump maps and realistic lightings and self-shadowings and shaders and what have you are not apparent in still screenshots.

If you can't beat them...join them :D

If Project Force has the same level of design customization that Armored Core does, then +1 sales. In fact, those mechs look totally Armored Core, and "Project Force" sounds suspiciously like a typical Armored Core subtitle, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if the game eventually comes out as Armored Core: Project Force. Rock. ONLINE PLAY THIS TIME PLS ASSHOLES

It looks good, but Killzone level its not.

So it should be MGS4 , right solidsnake ? :D

BTW please don't forget that Kill Zone was run at 5 fps but recaptured and speeded up to 60 fps for the movie you saw :)

ah yeah, i mentioned that on the other forum and forgot to add that to the list here. the lighting is amazing. the burst of light through the narrow gullys is pleasant and warm, achieving the desired heat effect. i'm definitely happy with that.

i guess i'm just mentally comparing RE4's early trailer to this one to see where we've come.

a leap technically, but overall i'll wait to see how it progresses. because at the end of the day the game is over a year away for this console.

JackFrost: I know what you mean. it's VERY easy for the fanboys to make fun nowadays. The layered texturs on models that are used to create certain lighting effects look heinous in stills but are best served during full motion videos.

i'll definitely own this title in one form or another. it looks to continue the scares of RE4 but in a diffent environment. i've also been waiting for Capcom to use the "28 days later" zombies!

arghhhhhhhhh!!

I can't believe people complain about Sony's non-games for the PSP, when the Japanese public has made it perfectly clear that all they want is non-games, further decreasing the relevancy of the market to real gaming.

No transparent face-buttons for the white PSP. :(

It looked better with transparent buttons on that older pic with the Incubus-video playing on it.

Edit: Here's the pic:

"Follow our lead"

How exactly can you you retards be BLAMING Sony for 'making you' stay up late on a video game message board?

This was a PlayStation strategy meeting and sales awards for publishers. Did they promise anything at all in advance? Victim of your own boredom much?

I'd say suddenly getting Biohazard 5 ON PS3 FOOTAGE and three other new games, an assload of new PS3, PS2 and PSP announcements, a new PSP model, web browing etc is pretty much more than anyone expected surely.

to be honest, I would have loved more info/screens/whatever, but I have to agree. PSP is kinda disappointing, but I really don't care about anything but GTA and I know its going to be a few more months until we probably see any gameplay from LCS. The web-browser is interesting though. I don't care about ROMs so a firmware upgrade is no big deal.

Someone mentioned a day 2 though. Is there a day 2 to this thing?

"wait for TGS" I guess. Sony has said specifically alot of stuff is coming at TGS, iirc.

Less than 10 new games is an "assload"?

There are a good bit more than 10 games, but yes, not an assload.

But the white PSP, the PSP TV thing, the upgraded firmware, the developer tools were nice.

But no PS3 HW, dates, prices, and huge exlusive software signings disappoint. But there's still Square's conference, the gaming convention, & TGS, so there's no shortage of opportunities.

Who actually thought these things would occur at this conference, when the main function of this conference is the recognition of high game sales?

According to famitsu, these games were showed for PSP:

PSP
- Jikkiou Powerful pro Baseball Portable---Konami
- Crisis Core FFVII---Square Enix (an anine clip showed)
- Portable Resort (tentative title)---Namco
- Super Robot Taisen---Banpresto (a video showed)

Can anyone confirm this? JPPY and SRT would be 2 BIG HITS...

It's an evalutation version, it seems. I don't know if the one shipped with XNA is full, tough.

It's probably full featured, but if you try to ship a game using the eval version Epic gets to unleash a horde of lawyers on you :)
