At the very least it seems to have cleared the low low bar of that attempt at Ghostbusters, so worst case it's the 3rd best in the franchise.

Newsflash: Aykroyd and Ramis were still working on Ghostbusters 3 even after that game came out. That game just reused some stuff from Ghostbusters III: Hellbent (the 90s Ghostbusters 3 that would’ve included Chris Farley). Aykroyd was working on the Ghostbusters III script with Ramis (who was adding Ben Stiller) up through 2011 or 2012. Ramis‘ death killed the movie and gave us the 2016 piece of shit.

You know a job in my previous career I hated? Writing the “suggestions” *required* marketing language all of our influencers were “suggested” *required* to use in their first impressions from early screening access.

Now every time one of these threads pops up, all I see is the same words, over and over again

I can’t wait.

Still I don’t put a lot of faith in early impressions from screenings like this. They’re akin to those “This is not a paid review I received the item for free but my opinion is unbiased” reviews on Amazon. Total BS. You’re gonna give it a good review because you want them to continue sending you free shit!!

I think I will enjoy it. I think it is a good sign they showed it, probably means they are confident. Did Akroyd help write this movie?

I used to write press releases in previous jobs and when I started it amazed me just how much journalists would repeat what I gave them verbatim. I realised that to get as much coverage as possible my goal wasn't to let them know about an interesting story they might want to cover but to essentially do their job for them.

They didn’t know they were going to see it. This was at a convention and was a surprise.

Yup! I was always amazed that People were HAPPY to be given our “marketing kits” with the language pre written for them, and annoyed when we left it open ended. People are lazy, and want to be told what to say/write. The idea of journalistic integrity doesn’t exist in this day and age of internet influencers.

what’s even more funny to me was we actually would be very accommodating to any one who came to us and said “the film was horrible, I don’t want to use your marketing fluff”. We expected a small amount of it and would use it to make sure things didn’t look to good. (Aka we’d be ok telling them to write what they want and thank them for their help)

you know how often that happened during our screenings? Zero times in 4 years. No one wanted to risk losing their meal tickets.

That's my only problem with kids being the (apparent) focus in this modern movie - you aren't going to get hilarious crude stuff like this that the Murray-Ramis-Aykroyd pack were known for.

Like, real kids would call each other dicks and stuff and you could kind of get some crudeness, but that's a no-go in a family picture especially if there is any wokeness.

Trying to avoid spoilers for this because I am hoping for the best, but I'm not expecting the kids to be a mini-pack.

Or even play it.

Even with all the jank it had, this game was so damn good. The ghostbusting mechanics usually felt great, and the VA and writing was phenomenal (although Murray sounded bored, but then he always sounds bored these days).

Legitimately MGS-levels of making a game feel like a movie.

I think outlets chasing clicks (not by choice but just the nature of the business now) and having cuts so they have to do more with less staff has meant there's been a switch in focus to quantity over quality. Those jobs are about a constant churn of content. So the easier you can make someone's work and the quicker they can regurgitate your material into an article the more likely they are to use it.

I didn't work in the entertainment industry and didn't control something journalists relied on having access to so it wasn't like we had a relationship where they had to stay in my good books.

I love most things Ghostbusters. I loved Ghostbusters cartoons. I loved Ghostbusters video games, although the majority of those were nearly unplayable. I loved the Ghostbusters movies, which, for me, does not include the recent monstrosity. I even love the Ghostbusters video game that basically counts as Ghostbusters 3.

I will go in with an open mind and a heart ready to embrace this film accepting that it may not be something I love but it will at minimum be a sort of farewell to a childhood favorite at worst.

When early impressions are like "OMG best thing ever I'm in tears" it usually means "it's not bad".

So I guess that's a good first step

I will wait to see what the actual public thinks of this movie instead of what the early screeners are saying. I'm sure the piece of shit 2016 version had initial high praise from its it early screen as well and we all know how that turned out. I am optimistic more for this one but the bar is still pretty low on my expectations.

Huh…What I always expected.

every time I see reactions from a premiere, every fucking time, the reactions are glowing. It’s like they pump the room with endorphins.

(and no, before the usual suspects bitch, I’m not saying the movie isn’t good.)

you want a good laugh. Look at the immediate premiere reactions to Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker. Hilarious in hindsight

Most things are as you expect them. Did you know 99% of the "audience" at red carpet events and premiers are hand selected to be there cheering/clapping/acting excited? Whole agencies exist just to supply raw cooperative meat for these events.

Anything dealing with the entertainment industry Is finely controlled and manipulated to an extreme extent. Leaving that industry to go more into the corporate world of multimedia was the best choice I ever made for my own sanity.

Lot of pessimists in here

movie will be amazing!
Better to have low expectations and be nicely surprised, than the opposite.

Plus the Ghostbuster IP has been handled horribly for a long time, why assume anything will be different? You see the life of Sonic fans, no one wants that!

TLJ was praised heavily after premiere reactions though.

whats the difference between "entertainment" and "multimedia", in terms of work

Why do they have to shove kids in all these movies. I don't think people understand what made the original such a great film.

Because Harold Ramis is dead and the surviving cast is pushing 70. It's either have Egon live on through his grandchildren who meet the original Ghostbusters or do a complete remake like the dogshit 2016 movie.

When do the non shill people who don't have to worry about being blackballed from such events for telling the truth get to see this film?

They weren't invited. It was a convention people paid to be at and they didn't know they were seeing this movie or any movie at the Sony presentation.

Or option 3, leave Ghostbusters dead and buried after that abomination in 2016. They had their chance years ago to do a proper 3rd movie when Ramis was still alive but Murray had to be a prick about it all. You are better off playing the Xbox 360 or PS3 game for a proper 3rd movie at this point.
