Sony Senior Vice President: We are moving away from a hardware centric business model

You were too late.

I don't see too much into this.

Nishino already said the console will be the epicenter of anything.

This guy says to center in the platform instead s concrete hardware. But what's the platform if not PlayStation?

That sounds a lot like the multigeneration thing Nishino said. PS5/Pro, PS6, new handheld, maybe own PC store and launcher and some streaming options. That will be the platform.

Besides, as seen in the Genji posts his answer was about the Namco Bandai deal and a generic one about moving from manufacturing things to content and IP.... Nothing to do with PlayStation.

Corpo speak has entered the chat.

Listen, it's very simple - PlayStation platform is PlayStation hardware. No need for semantic twists to justify you want to make more money and don't give a damn about all the people that got you there. It's ok - companies routinely take existing customers for granted, even though financials always show it takes way less money to retain existing customers than to acquire new ones. On the other hand corporate hubris never allows to increase the profitability from existing customers, there always needs to be "market growth" on your resume (unless your Tim Cook, this guy is idolised by basically squeezing the existing user base).

Sony, know for their engineering moving away from hardware.
I personally don't think this means what people think it means and they're just investing more in none hardware businesses models.

I know they have to say things to make it look like they actually work and have ideas and stuff but FUCK me it's so frustrating hearing time and time again someone at the top saying stupid shit and taking dumbass decisions and getting millions on bonuses for doing so.

Sony's statements are weird because they are caught in the middle.

Nintendo is 100% focused on their ecosystem. MS has supported PC day one gaming for ages, and more recently gone Sony ports. Many of MS's Sony ports were announced way back before they launch on PS5, so thats why MS's port strategy is more predictable they'd go that way eventually.

Sony is caught because on one hand they are trying to protect their ecosystem as long as possible for financials and not riling up the fanbase. But they also want multiplat ports because profit margins are high. So when they announce news like a port, it's only like 2-3 months before release. Helldivers 2 was announced only 1 month before the Xbox launch.

For people who dont follow Sony exec news and statements, they wouldnt know or care. But for us gamers who follow every article or tweet, their messages are cryptic and you cant really get a firm answer from them until suddenly one day a port is announced. For example way back in like 2018-19 the execs did have statements saying they were open to ports. At that time, you could see it coming, but it's vague nobody knows the vision they got. Nobody knew which systems, which games or when. Suddenly Horizon PC is announced. Then a bunch of dead time, and then Days Gone much later. Then flood gates open.

This thread isn't saying what the OP says it is. This whole thread is A LIE!!! So just stop believing lies.

This kind of stuff always gets distorted in translation.

I'll believe that Sony is "going Multiplatform" when I see a new God of War, day and date on Xbox. It's not going to happen.

So all the PC ports, including day one Helldivers 2, Xbox H2, MLB on Xbox and Switch for years, and even recent Lego Horizons on Switch dont count.

Got it.

I see a lot of social media hype with people saying, "Sony and Xbox are both Multiplatform", as if to conflate their situations into being identical, and I just don't really see evidence for that. Sony does have games on competitor platforms, but it's very selective and specific. They haven't given up the golden goose yet, and I don't think they really need to. All the games you listed above have a significant asterisks that deflates the impact of their Multiplatform spread.

Again, if Uncharted or God of War comes out everywhere day 1, I'll change my tune.

Fair enough. We got different interpretations on what multiplatform means.
