Its fine...they are a direct competitor, more so than any other electronic device, it makes sense that they would acknowledge what the competition is doing and how they are doing it better, especially when presenting to a consumer audience.

It was funny at first, now it's just like... okay. Let's face it, them backtracking is worse for them. Microsoft were making Sony look like a clear winner by comparison, now they're looking a lot more homogeneous, especially with Sony choosing to put PSN behind a paywall. I don't doubt they'll still be the better, more consumer friendly company to go with, but I actually think Sony made the dig because they're sort of pissed they backed down.

Well, it's not like it's a bad thing that MS wavered, but Sony's claim here is also valid for PR:

MS= confused, no direction, untrustworthy
Sony= confident, visionaries, loving

I think it was not as much directed to the fact that they removed their DRM and Used Games policies, but more at that Microsoft is now basically changing everything whenever it results in good marketing.

At least when they announced the Xbox One in May, there was an idea. A plan, a vision if you'd like. Now there is no vision.

Turnabout is fair play.

Has everyone already forgotten about all the stuff MS said and did during the current gen?

I didn't really care tbh, laughed at the way the public reacted though.
But...you know...it is true.. Although it wasn't necessary.

I see now problem with it.

It's good that MS have changed there policies no doubt and you should praise them for it, but you shouldn't forget what they tried to get away with in the first place and what MS are doing now is were SONY have been the last 6 or so months ( heck, even better off with most media apps not being behind the paywall and PS plus not needed for free 2 play games)

Only reason Sony is so full of themselves is because of the mistakes of others. They have yet to prove that they've accomplished anything significant with PS4.

Microsoft have reverted on Drm, used-games, headset, Kinect maybe, self-publish somewhat.
It's now just a huge, underpowered, overpriced box with less software support. See you in 2020, maybe.

Apt. It's nice to let people know that aren't run by the kind of executive team who'd come up with the debut Xbox policies thinking they're a good idea.

It wasn't omglol FUCKING HILARIOUS like I get the feeling some people think it was, but it was nice. Sony is rightly running with the momentum they have, and a little reminder of 'hey dudes, this is what we've been about all along' is probably smart.

Side note: did anybody else see that one lone guy giving a standing ovation to the launch date? lol

I thought it was lame and unnecessary, the low point of a pretty good conference. It just didn't need to be said.

Unnecessary today. It was fun at E3 but the fact that Sony feels the need to make digs at their direct competition stinks of desperation - when they have no need to feel desperate. It's like Sega back at the PS2 launch. It just felt forced today and lacked the class I'd expect from Sony.

Sony has a strong offering - so why?

I understand that they wanted to drive home the narrative that they are more trustworthy than MS, and I didn't find anything wrong with the actual words that were said. However, I thought the tone was a little more hostile than it needed to be.

I thought it was effective at tweaking the competition and reassuring some folks that are waiting for a mythical shoe to drop.

I didn't see the point. MS had some backwards policies and they did the right thing and fixed them. The Xbox One is serious competition now and Sony needs to do better than to ridicule Microsofts past mistakes if it wants to ensure its top spot

Yep, this is exactly how I feel. It showed a lack of class.
