Sony's E3 2014 - What are we all expecting?

I still think Sony possess a lethal weapon in their arsenal : Them having the most powerful plateform and the most technically gifted developers will most certainly help them produce the most impressive games of this coming E3. Even if they lost in terms of sheer content, they could compensate by bringing the most spectacular showcases.

Its tough though because all you will read is how it is all CGI trailers anyway, whether they are or not.

The Order reveal was damned impressive, but marred with " bullshot CG! " talk. Took us 6+ months to finally see that hey, it actually wasn't!

Same with the Killzone reveal.

I have no doubt that nearly every first party Sony title will be technically impressive, but atleast half or more will be considered BS until nearer to release

When they finally do release TLG. I really hope they make a documentary or something letting us know what exactly happened with this project. Was it canned for 2 years and then brought back? Was the team in completely shambles? Was it just pure mismanagement? Could they not figure out what type of game to make?

Im sure both MS and Sony will make me happy at E3 but I really miss when E3 would surprise everyone. These days, I feel like we always have and approximate idea of whats coming.

Can't think of a bigger crowd killer than Vita/PS3 talk.

I love my Vita but E3 isn't the place for it anymore. That ship sailed and then sank.
Yup get all related news out the week prior and token montage during the conference
Anything more is time wasted

Way too much

AGENT

Believe!

I can't wait to see From's new title if true!

Rockstar comes out to announce the "next gen" version of GTA V at the Sony conference. Applause, then... "And we have one more thing..." Lights go out. GAF server goes down. Short, awesome trailer...Yes, fucking Agent gets re-revealed as a PS4 exclusive launching fall 2015. #believe

  1. No sports stars; No celebrities - Sony is usually good about this except when it comes to sports games.
  2. No forced/fake conversations with sports stars, celebrities, or anyone. If a conversation between 2 people is scripted on a teleprompter, you've already failed
  3. NO VR. Its cool. I'm sure it will attract people including me. But its no easily communicated through video. The people who have been sold on it, experienced it firsthand. Employ a strategy like Nintendo did with the Wii at local stores or something...but leave it out of the stage presentation and bring it out on the E3 floor.
  4. PS Now must be talked about, but don't overdo it. Give us the price (hopefully something that feels like a steal like PS+) and a release date. A demo should be 2 minutes or less tops.
  5. No one needs specifics on sales. You will have some human being come out at some point and welcome us and thank us for making you #1. That's good enough. Know our audience and why we tuned in.
  6. 3rd party pacing - we know they're going to be there, but skew the demos to titles we haven't seen, with annual titles like Assassin's Creed or CoD having shorter demo lengths, when compared to non-annuals. The Newer, the better.
  7. Pacing - a good rule of thumb is to have AT LEAST (feel free to have more) high points in your presentation. Those 3 points MUST be games. Once you've identified those place one at the beginning, one in the middle, and one at the very end when you close out. You grab folks attention at the start. You've kept their attention during the middle, and you've left a lasting impression at the end.
  8. PS4-focused - I have a Vita. Great handheld...keep it to a minimum. Luckily it shares a lot of indie games with PS4, so you kinda have it tied in with that. Same goes for PS3. Rattle off names, but keep it to a minimum.
  9. SHOW THE GAMES. Its often said that you guys have problems with all the games you have and the ability to show them...Less talky more showy. While everyone's piling into that conference room waiting for the show to start, instead of having the customary Playstation shapes going, have a continuous feed/loop of indie games showing. Gameplay/screenshots and the title of the game. Get those journalist working.
  10. Relax. Its casual Friday. As long as you're showing the games, you're all good. Keep things light-hearted and easy going. You're talking to your audience, we aren't suits. You don't need to do a song and dance to entertain us, cause the seeing the games will do that. That's what we're here for.

My predictions on the first-party/Sony published stuff:

Progress of the Gamescom reveals (Rime, Shadow of the Beast, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Murasaki Baby)
Bend Studio's game announcement
San Diego Studio's free-to-play game announcement
Project Morpheus and PS Now info
Big SOE presense (PS4 versions of Everquest and H1Z1)
The Order 1886 demo
Drive Club demo
Project Beast trailer
Uncharted 4 (Demo to close the conference)
TLG won't be there

Media Molecule, Guerrilla/Cambridge, and London Studios games will be saved for Gamescom.

If this happen in this conference and there is gameplay of both Last Guardian and Versus ... I mean FFXV then Neogaf will be down during 1 month.

You can't re-reveal something that was never revealed in the first place.

Time to give up on Agent methinks! :P

It's high time to see Media Molecule's new game, and I hope it's as momentous and memorable as LBP's debut.

Personally, I've always wanted to see Sackboy continue and make the transition into a fully 3D world, but I'd rather another dev do that and see Mm do something new and big.

Third party is where Sony shines the most, IMO. It's honestly the reason I even buy Sony consoles. I haven't been a fan of their first party games except for Legend of Dragoon and Ico / Shadow of the Colussus.

Yeah. I'd be very interested in seeing a behind-the-scenes with the game.

Despite the fact that it's kinda sad/ridiculous they haven't delivered a game since Shadow of the Colossus, I love Team ICO's games so I wouldn't mind at all if once TLG is finished and they finally have time to really look back on what happened, especially if it was tech issues since JP devs had a lot of problems last gen on the whole, if they could work out a new deal with Ueda as well. Especially since the PS4 is clearly so much easier to develop on, plus the whole hopefully beneficial fixes that SCEJ has supposedly been getting under that Santa Monica guy.

I wonder if we here in eu will be able to watch a live stream via ps3 or 4...planning a get together with friends and they'll bring a 360 to watch the ms conference...hope sony does it as well!

Media molecule couple of days ago retweed a link to some forum discussion regarding their PS4 game. Three things included in the OP are the name (Entwined), statement that it will be at E3 and a Morpheus support. I am somehow doubtful that mm would be retweeting threads with false info about their future game...

thanks but I'm nobody special. When I got into the MVP program they were active on the PS forums but not so much here. I proposed this to give a direct communication line to GAF which is my forum home.

GAF moves at the speed of light, its helpful having somebody able to forward feedback that otherwise would not get seen. The best part is management is listening. Its not just a pat on the head, they have made it a priority to listen and try to respond.

If this is the case, tell them to bring their A-game this year! No one wants to see early Morpheus prototype stuff or a demonstration of PS Now, people want to see Project Beast, Uncharted 4 and new SCE games.

No way these happen. Not in a million years.

I agree with the no Vita talk. Unless they got some big named titles on the way like Resident Evil or something. But yeah. PS4 all the way!

I could see gta5 coming to ps4.

well not exclusive.

That's the 'never happening' part. It's pretty much a 99.9% certainty that GTAV gets next gen ports at this point. PC/PS4/XB1. Rockstar likes money. Although Agent could still be a PS4 exclusive IF Sony had a contract with them for it dating back to the original announcement.

Not exactly, it would be Donkeyzone Kart: Helgan Drifts

2 hours of conference,

Some of them would appear in the typical compilation video, the full trailers, teasers or announcements or details would be shown outside the conference via internet trailers / press release.

list still pretty leans pretty/really heavily on 1st party though
which would be a pretty disastrous bad showing imo
plus they will have to save something for 3 other events for the rest of the year

Vita vita vita vita vita vita. V I T A. That's what's gonna happen. Vita's gonna happen.

Man, I really want something on the Vita that isnt an in passing thing ("And you can enjoy PSNow on the Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita!").

I would really like them to announce:
1) a memory card price drop (at least 25%)
2) the 64 GB card coming over
3) Minecraft Bundle this fall for $175/$180 (I dont think pricing it at $200 is a good value proposition)
4) Maybe a PSNow/Remote Play bundle of PS4+Vita for $500?
5) Some smaller scale Western Vita games (I believe Tearaway was done on a small budget, so something on that scale)

Though as long as there are a lot of really good announcements for PS4 I guess I can make do with the token handouts for Vita. My concern is on conference time as I am sure a good chunk will be chest thumping, thanking the fans, and general talking points.

I agree with the no Vita talk. Unless they got some big named titles on the way like Resident Evil or something. But yeah. PS4 all the way!

I'd be really surprised if they had anything to show for Vita that was really relevant to the "E3 audience." I think it will get a short sizzle reel at the most, same with PS3 since most of the stuff still on the way is Japanese RPGs and whatnot.

I hope the Capcom game is a Dragons Dogma sequel with Itsuno's team. RE7 might be a bit early but still excited if they show it.

Funnily Capcom has so far been the best JP publisher for next gen consoles.
