Sooo...XIII (Thirteen)

I'm not big on first person shooters to begin with, but this only cost me $13 Canadian and I've been wanting to play it since I first laid eyes on it. I like the visual style and the way the cut scenes are presented in a graphic novel format. The gameplay itself is pretty standard issue and there are some fun and challenging stages. I wish stealth played a bigger role since it's easy to get caught trying to sneak up on somebody. Most times you can clear an area by running in with your guns blazing. I really like the sniper rifle though! But yeah, fun little game that's not spectacular but still addictive. I like it so far and would give it a 7/10.

I tried to like this game. I did like the visuals, and it did seem like they actually tried, when they devved it. But... well... :(

This game has a nice little fan following me being one of them. After you get some of the character upgrades like silent walking the gameplay REALLY begins to open up and the boss fights are wonderful for human opponents. It is very remeniscent of Goldeneye in a lot of ways especially story-telling (which is also wonderful and fresh). And being able to sneak around plays a much bigger role in later stages. This is just one of those games that I hated at first because the engine felt unpolished but slowly began to appreciate and eventually really like towards the end.

The ending is damn good btw it begs for sequal which I hope we get one just bigger and more polished. I give the game a B-.

Very neat look, very neat story that ends without resolving, braindead gameplay.

It was the best FPS on the GC for a long time, though.

I really got a kick out of the 70s-paranoia plot (and the surprisingly excellent voice acting). It was like a cel-shaded Three Days of the Condor.

Didn't like it much for multiplayer, though.

Yeah, that surprised the hell out of me, too. Adam West as the General = classic.

It felt like David Duchovney phoned it in, but, well, he always sounds like he's phoning it in.

well thats somewhat promising, I haven't liked the mechanics, it's been all trading shots, even when you nail a guy with a shotgun he fires right back, doesn't seem to reward getting the drop on people all that much since they take hardly any damage unless it's a headshot, but if new abilities help it to pick up later then I'll keep going

The only parts David can play are characters who are so bland and distant, because his voice and personality are the same.

Area 51 = dumb character "ohhhhh i feel soooo horrible......i must survive..."

XIII = no memory "ohhh my memory...i must figure out who i am..."

yawn

I got it for 2.50 at that TRU clearance ..it is still unopened. Maybe one day I can sell it on Ebay for 3.00 and BE RICH, RICH I SAY!

I really enjoyed this game. The story is pretty good, I must say. The presentation is what sold it to me more than anything else, though.

If you want a good story in a decent first-person shooter, XIII is a good choice, especially if you can find it on the cheap.

Ending pissed me off. Don't want to buy the best selling comic of the same name to see the rest. Is it even a straight adapation anyways?

oh well, it was good while it lasted.

Story sucked, gameplay sucked, overall a big waste of time. If you actually say this thing is good then either you haven't played a decent FPS in years or just a sadist.

Masochist. Sadists like inflicting pain on others.

And the story and atmosphere are certainly different, in a good way as far as I'm concerned. Besides the total cliffhanger-that-won't-ever-be-resolved ending.

Demi's quotes are as short as possible, that way no spin can be put on them.

Anyways, I was SO CLOSE to buying this game last spring, but never did. It was still 10 bucks and I figured I could buy a lot of Slurpees for that much, so I just stuck to slurpees. But I am really piqued about it, and will probably rent it once the summer videogame skid starts to drag on.

Yikes, didn't check my post. Yeah I put up with the lame ass stealth play only to be rewarded with a stupid ending. Oh well, there are other games that are much better which are ignored like Pariah, Killswitch, Chaser, Red Faction 2, etc. I can't handle crappy stealth mechanics when I've played games like MGS3, Deus Ex, Thief, etc. It didn't help that the weapons were just plain stupid, the fact that a throwing knife or crossbow could be an instant kill while any non-sniping firearm you needed to shoot multiple times :P

I picked up XIII for ÂŁ9.99 about a year ago, and at first was unimpressed. I loved the visual style and the methods of narration but thought the inital game play was a little boring. I stuck with it though and as the game developed (after escaping from the bank in particular) i found it really engrossing and enjoyable to play.

Not perfect by any means but it has great visual style and an impressive first person narrative that unfolds and develops quite nicley as you play.

I'd recommend it if you can find it at a discount and dont give up if you find the first two or three levels tedious.

I got it for something lile 2 pounds and got a huge kick out of it.. Would have paid about 10 pounds for it. Very fun FPS easily a 7/10 but I'd give it an 8 because I'm a sucker for cell shading.

Great bargain bin title! Took a while to get into but eventually grabbed my gonads. Very Goldeneye-esque with some neat gadgets, stealth elements and more intense action than its given credit for. Log cabin bitch. Also a nice rebuke to those who think games based around a well worn FPS engine (unreal in this case) can't have a different look or feel to them.

Pity about the cliffhanger ending. Game bombs, no sequel, ultimately disappointing end to a good game. Coincidentally I played XIII through on Xbox in anticipation of Halo 2 yet found myself prefering Ubi's game to Bungie's, c'est la vie.

XIII starts out promising (although I'm curious as to where the lifeguard was hiding those throwing knives :lol), but the game falls apart quickly. The main problem I had was the poor level design. The levels are boring, and the placement of enemies and powerups isn't logical or balanced. The enemy A.I. and the gunplay are also sloppy. The stealth portions are okay, but they feel like they were slapped together to compensate for the lousy core gameplay.

The comic book aesthetic works reasonably well. The animations of the avatars are horrible and the landscapes aren't cell-shaded (or at least not to the level of the characters) for some reason, but there are some impressive details such as the "TAP! TAP!" when an enemy is walking towards you and the multi-panel display of headshots.
