Sorcery! saga |OT| Four games, three years in the making, one epic adventure

These games are SO GOOD. I've played the first three and can't wait for the last one. I'd buy them at triple the price. Everyone buy 80 days by the same people, it's also amazing. I'd rate this as one of the best series to come out in years in gaming.

I'm pretty far into Sorcery 3 but I fear I've kind of ruined the series for myself. I love everything about the games but I've become kind of paralyzed by the rewind feature where I feel the compulsion to constantly retry things to get a more 'desirable' outcome or to not waste resources
 
anyone with Amazon Prime and an android device can get the first two via Amazon Underground for free. I've played some of the first - great game.

Part 4 actually removes rewinds, so you're good :)

There certainly can be a lot of wandering around aimlessly across the map looking for an artifact or two. Some of the major puzzles can be a bit obscure with the time spotlights as well.

Where are you stuck?

Oooh, So multiple play-throughs legitimately incoming then. Remember those passwords folks.

I was bummed there wasn't cloud saving across devices so I did one play-through with about the worst you could, no spell book, no gold, choosing to fight everything rather than spells. It didn't go very well at all.
 
I haven't played the game for months, but my memory tells me that I was somewhere in the southeast region of the map, in some swamps. I think I was trying to tackle one of the serpents. I already killed one or two, can't remember exactly. The problem if I recall is that I already know the weaknesses of a bunch of the serpents, but I don't have the means to actually exploit most of those weaknesses. I'm also somewhat paralysed by the time limit and was unsure if I should keep exploring to try and beat all the serpents, or simply figure out how to get to the end of the scenario. :/

Yeah, I wandered around those swamps a long time too. The key is the lake to the east of them. There is a way to actually beat all 7, a lot of people find/get through 6. The time serpent can be a real pain. If you wander enough, they'll find you too. But it is like part 2, I think you can just bullrush to the end.

keep in mind there's essentially two maps in different times, if nothing of note is in a spot in one time, try moving the tower lights on it to check another time.
 
I wasn't even aware these games existed until reading this thread - picking them up tonight. I loved the books when I was a kid, still have them to this day.

The trajectory of each game being better than the last is not broken in this fourth release, the best yet, and indeed one I now feel comfortable calling one of the finest RPGs ever made. This is spectacular.

It is, in fact, far more sophisticated in its presentation of moral situations than any other RPG out there. Where I’ve been hard-coded by a lifetime of BioWare to assume being noble and virtuous will be sacrificially beneficial, the Sorcery series cunningly takes advantage of this and cruelly responds.

If you're into RPGs, interactive fiction, games where choices and consequences matter without resorting to mortality meters, and branching paths where things can change in huge ways, the Sorcery series would be up your alley

They aren't good mobile games, they're good games regardless of platform.

Same dev, and that's a game to play like six, seven times or more. There's so much content, so many cities and stories and routes, that you can play that many times and basically experience different things each time.
 
Welp, finally finished up 3. I defeated all the serpents but it took me 22 days, so my character thinks I was too slow and the archmage will see me coming. So looks like 4 is going to be tough for me. Also interesting, at the end it said I had specifically defeated the Sun serpen which makes me think I could have just carried that one with me into the next game? I wonder how that would have affected the game.

So 4 takes place inside that fortress right? That sounds like good news to me. Sounds like it could be a bit tighter, like part 2. 3 felt a bit unfocused. Sure, it was nice to be able to go wherever you could, and it was certainly ambitious with effectively two different world maps, but exploring through it all became echausting after a bit, and the rewind function made it even more so. I didn't use it at all in the first game, used it a quite a few times in the second game (I didn't want to lose money in swindlestones) and used it all the fucking time in 3. Seemed impossible not to. There were so many events where you you could lose so many things if you weren't careful. Just getting through the map without taking a bath, ruining half your inventory was a bit of a puzzle, even WITH rewinds. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the lack of rewind changes things in 4.

So far the game only has 500 downloads on Android which is very sad. Hope it eventually reaches 10000 like the previous games.

is amazingly fun to go through and figure out all the different
counter-spells
to get out of the various situations you get yourself into.

And there seems to be so many cool things you can do. Right at the start of the game, there is one thing that you can do, that leads to really big problems unless you figure out how to solve it, which I luckily did. And just a bit further in, there is another huge thing you can do although I rewinded though because it sounded too dangerous once I realized what I had done. And very close to that there is another thing you can do which I imagine has huge repercussions for the final confrontation.

Nier D ending vibes, with the warnings you get that you probably shouldn’t do it.
Damn I’m not even quite sure what exactly I did. It could be relatively minor, or I may just have fucked myself over royally. I love it.

Seriously people should really play this. It’s fucking amazing. So far it’s the best in the series, even better than 2.
 
Spoiler question for the second episode and one of the late game mechanics
If you go back in time to get one of the other lines you missed and either miss or change the exact course of your actions does it overwrite what you did originally? Ie, do I need to beat the same people in that dice game, talk to the same people, redo the same desired paths, etc?

Yes, saves carry over so start with part one. All games are excellent but there is a risk of burnout if you play them all back-to-back so taking a month or so off in between parts two and three and in between three and four may be advisable. In particular, it seems part 3 burns people out. That one is very open-ended and gives you a lot of freedom, but this brings with it the downside of making it slightly overwhelming and a bit less tight
 
I had those games on my list for quite some while, but am still unsure whether to get them on iOS or on Steam. I played and enjoyed 80 Days on iOS, can I expect the same level of polish here too?
 
So in 3 you can get the hint to avoid eating from the
larder of Throg
which refers to a location in 4. Does anyone know the reason for this warning? I've tried eating it myself and it seems fine. Depending on how you play through this section you can
gain lots of provisions there. Has anyone figured any downsides to eating there or is it just a warning about Throg's temper, which is relatively easy to deal with? Or is it just flavour text, considering there is a relatively high chance some of that meat is human?
 
Anyone complete part 4 yet?

I'm very stuck, and I need some endgame advice.
I can't seem to beat or do anything to the final demon, he eats me every time. Even bringing the minimite Jann into the battle doesn't seem to help. I think I'm missing something. I've gotten so many counter spells through the college and in the book near the end. But can never use any of them. Any ideas? What work for you guys?

It's getting tedious looping through the same parts of the game again and again.



Edit- finally beat it. Some very clever stuff in there but holy hell can it be tedious. Even worse than 3 if you missed a few things.
They present an option to surpass the door with the birdmen, if you do it's another loop of trial and error that ends in nothing. You to figure out how to open the door.

I liked all the counter spell towers in the two wings of the college, but ultimately some were just a waste a time. I Found having to do the two wings over and over to possibly find something you missed was such a pain in the ass. I went from loving the game to really disliking it often. I'm not sure I want to bother playing through again.
Overall a good ending to the series though. Again with multiple endings like the others.
