The circular dealy on the top of that mock-up being similar to the one on PSP also makes for a nice unifying design element between the two products.

I do think it is hot. I like simple designs. I think it would look a lot better as a sleek metal or solid color then a bunch of colors with flashing lights and plugs everywhere.

When a design gets overly complicated, thats the sign of an inferior designer.

I really like the mock up in this thread, i hope it's something like that. But I'm a fan of the coloured strip shown in the PSM mock up, changes colour every month, very cool. But yeah, I would like the above design with the strip, USB ports, mem stick support and controller/memcards slots of the PSM design. And considering PSM is going off what they've heard from devs, I'm happy that it seems like mem stick is going to supported with PS3. It'd be cool to take my mem stick from the PSP, put it into the PS3 and watch movies/video clips from it on a TV. Cool stuff

That particular image is from the letter's page in OPM (US), and was a reprint of a similar story about a possible PS3 design from an earlier issue.

It seems like Sony is going to stick with the "circle surrounding the PS logo" design, I like that A LOT on the PSP. It looks like a perfect fit, just perfectly rounds out the package. I'm sure it'll look really nice on the PS3 if the design is like the one in this thread.

Yeah. I really like the iPod, but that doesn't mean that every simple design is "hot". Some are just simple.

You can't really tell from that picture, though. It could be a featurless box or maybe it's all shiny metal casing with pretty lights. Maybe I would have called the PSP boring if I just saw a drawing of it first.

Whatever, though. I'll buy it either way

Actually, that design was made by OPM's art director, Ryan Vulk. OPM didn't do that PS3 logo though.

The reason I would dig that PS3 design, or any design like it, is because it would be right at place in my entertainment system. As much as I like my consoles, they're obtuse wretched little things that look worlds apart from my DVD player and sound setup. I would love a system that just sort of blends in with its minimalist style while not being obnoxious with something like a fucking stupid handle. Just swift, sleek hard edged lines a logo and a decidedly DVD-esque feel.

Well, the PSP design can be seen as generic as that PS3 one (it's just a screen with buttons of the sides), yet it's awesome. Go figure.
