Well, I mean, I doubt anyone would be banned for saying they wear a coonskin cap, or something. The problem is that the way he used it is always a racial pejorative. Whether he is black and thus given a "clearance" is irrelevant and frankly impossible to moderate fairly. Every mod would have to know the race/gender/sexual orientation of each poster at that point. It is more productive to the community as a whole to prohibit the use of that kind of charged language, as its use doesn't foster discussion or even make a funny observation.

That's another problem with it too: it wasn't even a joke.
